The Dawn of a New Age

When I put together the Wintreath History Project, the first thing I did was break our history into ages based on events that guided our direction. In the course of doing that, I realized that we had recently entered a new age. Right now, it’s named “Current” because who knows what will most define the time we’re living in right now?

But if we can’t know what will define this current age, how can we know if we’re in a new one? Today I wanted to share some recent developments that not only make me feel we’ve entered a new age, but that has me optimistic that it will be a golden one for our community.

The Bridging of the Forum/Discord and RMB Communities
Wintreath has always been based on the forums and IRC/Discord, with the NationStates RMB community  almost entirely separate. This changed with the emergence of WARPP (the Wintreath Allied Regional Protective Pact), which bands 21 members of the RMB into one organization. In December, several members from WARPP, including its founder, took seats in government after winning Thane (Vice-Minister) elections. Since then, WARPP has bridged the gap between the two communities, with more people on both sides becoming involved in each community, a first in our history.

The Resurrection of the Civil Service
Wintreath has never had much of a Civil Service, but over the last two years it had become defunct. Things started changing in November with the launch of the Hearthkeepers, who welcome new people to Wintreath and keep the RMB and forums going by posting icebreaker questions and bonfire events. We followed this up with the relaunch of the ambassador program last week, and have plans for more branches in the future. The Civil Service is the foundation of the Monarchy that all ministries draw from, and its resurgence will allow our leadership to do more and aim higher than ever before.

The Return of Marzipan and Arenado
Anyone who has read recent editions of this publication or the Wintreath History Project understands the events that lead to their departure and the significance of their return years later. The return of two pillars of our community is joyous enough, but their return also brings the opportunity of reuniting our community and bringing a final closure from the terrible events of the Schism. In the short time they have been back, it feels like our Discord has already become more vibrant. Everyone is livelier, morale feels higher, and it feels like we’re finally shaking off the last of the quiet dreariness that was a hallmark of the last era.

Fun and Games, Renewed
Our culture was never dead even on the quietest days, but in just the last two months we’ve seen the return of large Werewolf games on the forums and the related development of a Werewolf voting system. This week we started Cards Against Humanity games on the Discord again, which have proven to be very popular. We’ve also seen a renewed focus on consists like Avatar of the Month, which itself has seen new popularity. Finally, we’ve seen large successful community projects like the 2022 8-Values Project, which was nearly as popular as the 2017 version. And I feel this is just the beginning.

Any one of these could justify the dawning of a new age, but for these reasons not only do I believe that we’re in a new age, but one that will be among the brightest we’ve ever had. There has almost never been a better time to be part of the Wintrean community, whether it’s to be involved in our Civil Service or government, to take part in fun and games, or to just chat away on the forums or Discord. Week after week, the state of our community seems brighter and brighter, and I’m optimistic that this is just the tip of the iceberg, one that you can stay frosty on.

Aloha to our new and returning Citizens!

We have a returning Citizen this week!

• Welcome back to Arenado (North Gralend), who left our community several years ago after the Schism drama. Better known as North back then, they were a mainstay in our regional government, one of the most active members of our forums and Discord, and a pillar of our community. It is a great joy to be able to welcome them back now, and I hope that you will join me in doing so!

If you would like to become a Citizen of Wintreath, all you have to do is join our off-site forum and then fill out this form. Citizens gain full rights under our regional constitution, gain access to Citizen-only areas of the forums and Discord, and can participate in our government from our all-Citizen assembly to the Cabinet that runs the day-to-do operations of Wintreath.

Jackbox Event - March 12th, 8:30PM Eastern/9:30PM Central

Jackbox is a collection of party games, such as drawing games, writing games, and trivia games, and more! The game will be hosted  by Marzipan ( New Montith) on our Discord “In Game” voice channel as well as https://jackbox.tv (with a code provided in the chat stream). You don’t have to own the game to play, so if you’re interested in party games join in!

Minecraft Night - March 13th, 7PM Eastern/8PM Central

You never know what will happen on a Minecraft night. Will you chat with regionmates while building something cool, go on an expedition into dangerous caverns, or tour someone’s really awesome building or town? Join us and see what the night holds for you! The Discord In-Game voice channel will also be open for anyone who wants to voice chat while playing.

News from Wintreath
Signups Open for Werewolf 26!

Named “A New Adventure in Old London” and hosted by Neon Abigail, this game promises plenty of chaos and unique roles, but also  a post limit to make sure that people can keep up on it all. Werewolf is very similar to games like Among Us and Town of Salem, just through text on our forums, so if you like these sorts of games why not give it a try? Signups are open until March 27th or 18 players have signed up!

Werewolf System Update 2 Announced!

To go along with the upcoming Werewolf game, Wintermoot announced that work had started on the next major update to our Werewolf system, which provides tools for hosts and automated vote-counting for players. The new system will add automated game creation and ability for hosts to add players as well as systems for roles, abilities, and effects.

Ambassadors (named Winbassadors on the Discord because ambassador was already taken) represent Wintreath to other communities. This involves joining their forums and Discord, keeping track of what’s going on there, posting our dispatches and information, and contributing to our foreign dispatch, the Auora Borealis.
