Statement of the People's Assembly of the Global Right Alliance Regarding Commentary by Citizen Govindia of Wintreath

To our esteemed friends of Wintreath, on behalf of the People's Assembly of the Global Right Alliance.

Whilst the Assembly is pleased by the recent opening of diplomatic relations between our two regions, and we are hopeful that this will lead to developments that provide great benefits to both regions in the future, it is with dismay that the Assembly must register its concern with the comments expressed by Govindia in his recent campaign for Jarl of Foreign Affairs.

Please note, Chanku's comments are listed here only to provide context, we do not raise issue with anything Chanku has stated.

I believe GRA is valuable due to the fact that it is an older region which is being rebooted. As they are an older region they have more of a history and they might be able to help us at times when needed.

While the GRA is indeed an older region, they thrive off of trolling and internet drama.  They are argumentative, and as I've seen as of late, they will engage in troll-style debates and be openly hostile to people they do not like.  While they are an older region and have been helpful to an extent as defenders, their nature and attitude isn't going to help Wintreath and I would not support any treaties with them until they improve their ability to show respect to others.

Response: Firstly, the Assembly emphatically states that trolling is not an activity of the Region, and 'internet drama' is perhaps a byproduct, but not the intention, of our Citizens. We pride ourselves on true freedom expression, we do not restrict our citizens freedom of speech, and as such this can of course lead to comments many may find abrasive.

Govindia has felt the bite of the Region for several reasons, mostly due to his attempt to Facebook stalk one of our leading Citizens several years ago. No one has ever become an 'enemy' of the Global Right Alliance without making serious offences against the region or its Citizens.

In addition, the Assembly strenuously objects to the modifier 'they have been helpful to an extent as defenders'. We are curious as to how else one would classify one of the oldest defender regions in the world, a founding member of the Founderless Regions Alliance, and the breeding ground of some of the leading defenders in NationStates history.

Of course, the Region shows respect to others, those deserving of respect.  The Assembly does not and shall not order its Citizenry to respect anyone.  If a party finds the respect of the Citizenry lacking in some regard, the Assembly certainly shall not, at that party's request, attempt to fix its own Citizens.

Govindia that's rather sterotypical, you can't judge an entire region based upon a group of people or a person, it's like saying that everyone in wintreath is like Wintermoot, Daws, Charax, Alt, or you. To be honest this is not something that I would look for in a Jarl of Foreign Affairs.

Having diplomatic relations with them, I don't mind, but having treaties is something different.  I've been in at least two regions where I've seen their ambassadors behave in an undiplomatic and abrasive way, and while I agree that one person doesn't represent an entire region, the fact that a region doesn't make an attempt to teach their ambassadors tact, diplomacy, and civility is a bit of concern.

Response: Note: Response directly from Foreign Affairs Minister Joe Bobs: I, as Foreign Affairs Minister and Ambassador to Wintreath, take this as a personal slur from Govindia, who is clearly making reference to me. I would like him to demonstrate ways in which I have been undiplomatic and abrasive.

On a personal note, I would like to state that in my short time in Wintreath, I have been impressed by the region and welcomed by its members, and found it an interesting and vibrant place.

The Assembly recognizes these comments have been made by one individual, and not by Wintreath, but nevertheless would like to register our objection to and condemnation of these comments.

Govindia I would think it appropriate you address Joe Bobs as he is the official GRA Ambassador and the Foreign Minister for the GRA.

Wintermoot, as a citizen of both regions I am neutral at this point. I think it would benefit Wintreath to make an official statement, as the GRA has made an official statement here. But again that is without bias and is what I would expect we do if any other region issues such grievance.

If you want to offer an official response Wintermoot, feel free to, but as was stated this was directed at Govindia. We know he made his comments of his own volition and we are aware (or hope!) they don't represent the views of Wintreath in general.

Whilst Govindia of course has the right to say whatever he wishes, we can also challenge him to defend his statement.

From my personal opinion:

I don't like being referred to as a troll. Trolls are aimless and immature. Yes, the GRA is home to strong language and occasionally even aggressive behavior. Govindia has attracted a strong reaction because of his past actions, which have been downright creepy.

To paraphrase Malcolm Tucker, don't ever call us trolls. We are so much worse.

Govindia I would think it appropriate you address Joe Bobs as he is the official GRA Ambassador and the Foreign Minister for the GRA.

That is probably the most appropriate.

Then Joe Bobs, speak to me on IRC when you are available and we will *hopefully* handle this in a civilised manner.

Govindia and co. As this issue has been brought about publicly, I know I personally would prefer it to be solved publicly so as to nullify any chance of deceit or lies... Might we have more public forum discussion/debate on this?

The issue should have been brought about tactfully and diplomatically - that is, in a much more private, discreet matter.
