Discussion For Changing Noble Titles

  • As I've brought up here, I would like to change the name of our titles of nobility (currently Count, Duke, and Archduke) and create a fourth rank between the current titles of Count and Duke. There was some discussion about naming them there, but I wanted to break things out and create a dedicated topic to the matter.

    In summary so far:
@Laurentus brought using the Dragon Age Fereldan titles of Banns, Arls, and Teyrns; but @Charax pointed out that those titles may not mean anything for people who haven't played Dragon Age.

@Doc brought up perhaps creating a fifth noble rank and granting the first one to people who applied for Citizenship as an incentive for people to join. This may run along the discussion/nominations for potentially replacing the title of Citizen.

@Gerrick brought up perhaps using titles based on Norse, but it was also discussed that if we go along that route we need to be careful not to choose names that are difficult for people to type on English-language keyboards (Riksråd) or remember how to spell (Hvitt Raddaral).

Hopefully we can create something fun here. ^-^

  • To be clear, I wasn't proposing that these 'Baronets' (or equivalent title) would be considered members of the Peerage; rather, it would be a noble-sounding title that would replace that of Citizen, while being identical to the present Citizen status in literally everything but name.
It'd just be a way to lean further into that roleplaying-as-vassals-of-the-realm aspect.

  • I also agree with Doc’s suggestion and would continue to lobby for that title to be Freeholder, as it denotes status without including them in the peerage system. Perhaps residents of the gameside region who haven’t gotten more involved here can be referred to as citizens?

    I stand corrected. :P
