Werewolf Code of Conduct

  • Werewolf is a very confrontational game by design. When you have people in a game whose sole objective is to conceal their identity, lie and generally make everyone as suspicious as possible of everyone else in order to avoid detection, then things are bound to get heated every once in a while.

For that reason, I've seen fit to create a code of coduct.

    1. Be friendly to new players. They probably won't know the ins and outs of the forums, game or region yet, and will therefore require quite a bit of help. If you are not in a position to provide such help, then mention the person running the game and ask them to assist (e.g. @Laurentus). Under no circumstances is it cool to make fun of them or to be mean when they are confused about something.

    2. Do not use inflammatory language. Tensions will run high, that is something you need to know going in. Under no circumstances are you to insult other players or call them names. This includes, but is not limited to, calling someone "stupid," "idiotic" etc. Even when such action does occur, report it to the person running the game and let them take it further. You are not to retaliate and call someone any other names you can think of, either. This also extends to perceived shortcomings of the forum. No one likes having their work be called "stupid" so please don't do that with any forum features that might be giving you problems. @Wintermoot works hard on these forums and routinely spends money to try and make it even better. If there is a problem with a forum feature, politely contact him or mention him and see if a solution can be found.

    3. Recognise the commonly used terms of the game, and give each other the benefit of the doubt that they probably weren't trying to hurt your feelings. This is a game where one set of players, the Werewolves or Mafia, are often referred to as "scum" because of the obvious playful link to mafia movies. We also use terms like "sheep" to indicate that someone has just followed along with another player's votes without providing their own rationale.

    4. Have fun. Recognise that everything that happens should take place in good sport. You will get falsely accused by some of the players, and you may get voted off because of it. This could be as part of a ploy by the Wolf/Mafia faction, or because something you said made the Town faction think you might be a Wolf. In either case, recognise this is inevitable and this will happen to you sooner or later. You may as well laugh about it.

How do I report bad behaviour?

There are a few people you can take it up with.

    1. The host of the game. Whoever made the opening post to the game is the host, and they will generally be able to intervene to solve disputes, or take it further up the chain if necessary.

    2. The Thane of Werewolf. This position is currently held by @Arenado, but will change every few months. You can usually tell who this is by looking at the top of the thread you're busy reading and seeing who the mod is/mods are.

    3. The Jarl of Culture. This is currently held by @Michi and they oversee all cultural matters, like forum games and general discussion pages. You can similarly see who this is by looking at the top of the thread and seeing who the mod is.

    4. Finally, the main admin of the forum. @Wintermoot is the main admin, and will likely remain such indefinitely. If nothing else has worked, or you have a problem with forum functionality specifically, he's the one to take it up with.
