It is with regret that Wintreath has decided to withdraw from relations with New Western Empire (NWE).

Soon after establishing relations, accusations were leveled of an OOC nature: specifically, that a photo of a former member was turned into an emoji for the purpose of mocking them in NWE predecessor region, New Western Atlantic, and that this emoji was recently posted in another Discord server by NWE's current Delegate, Bietzpolis. In a discussion with Bietzpolis and NWE's Prime Minister, it was acknowledged that this had happened and that it did, in fact, constitute doxing. It was promised that within the next day they would put out a public statement and apology regarding the matter in the form of a public dispatch and regional telegram, and that other reforms were being worked on to prevent such a thing from happening again. Based on these promises, it was decided to conditionally maintain relations with NWE.

However, it has become apparent over the past several days that the matter has not been treated with the urgency and seriousness that one would expect after having made such an admission. The significance of what happened was initially downplayed until further evidence was provided by a third party, contradictory explanations and accounts have been given to us, and in our view the public statement and apology that was several days late were grossly inadequate. We are proud to be a region of second chances, especially when a person or group has admitted wrongdoing and committed to improving themselves and righting those wrongs, but we cannot wait forever for that to happen, and we cannot tolerate diversions along the way, especially with an embassy that many will view as carrying our endorsement. Therefore, we have decided to withdraw from relations at this time.

It is our hope that NWE will do the things that it needs to do to right these wrongs, and that we can consider relations at a future time if and when it has done so. We're happy to help them along that path in any way that we can, but we cannot in good conscience maintain relations until adequate progress has been made in doing so.
