I want to start a discussion on how people are using the who's online page, which lists everyone that's online and where they're at on the website. Even before recently, I had considered removing it because it seems like a relic from a previous era (on what modern website can you see what everyone else is looking at?), but I've hard that some people actually use it and I want to figure out how.

More urgently, I've been reminded that the Who's Online page can be used to collect evidence on who the wolves are in Werewolf based on whether they're sending a PM during the night phase. This is an issue that I want to fix in the process of deciding what to do here.

The Who's Online page has been quite useful for me here.

When I am on here but offline, I sometimes look at the page to see what users who are online are looking at (just out of curiosity).
In Werewolf, I have made use of the Who's Online page to try to figure out which players have a power role based on if they are looking at and sending messages.
Outside of the games, I do like seeing Who's Online and sometimes I use the page to time my posting in some threads with other users since they are looking at the thread or posting in it at the time.

I understand why Werewolf players would want something done about it but I do use the trick although I am fine with trying not to use it.

I use it to find really obscure topics. The guests sometimes view very interesting old threads.

I have also used it in Werewolf.

Amusingly enough, I've never looked at it before until just now.  In reality, I didn't realize that was what was meant by it.  If I ever want to see what someone is up to (normally lurkers), I'm used to clicking their name and it telling me what they're doing at that particular point in time right on their profile.  Now I can really see why it'd be an issue for Werewolf since it keeps timestamps of when people are doing those things and leaving it there until a certain time point.

What I'm getting is that people like spying on their region-mates in general, just not when it comes to when they're sending messages for Werewolf.

So I've made the easiest fix possible...it simply will no longer show when people are viewing or sending their PMs.

Will it show "nothing, or nothing you can see?" Because that would still be a dead giveaway.

No, it will show something else.

Ideally, it should simply not trigger on the PM pages. So then, the Who's Online page would simply show what you were previously looking at.

If it reliably showed something else then people would still be looking for that the same way.
