So I've just now resurrected my main nation, Laurentus States. As luck would have it, my very first issue was the following. This is a topic for any other hilarious issues anyone may want to talk about. What's nice about this one is that it has a really good philosophical question that will have you examining your principles quite a bit. Here goes:

"The Issue
Teen pop star Layla Stuckmann decided to celebrate her birthday and “just legal” status by selling her virginity to the highest bidder. The online auction has now closed, with the winning bid not far off the national average for six months’ wages.

The Debate

“This is my body and my choice,” squeaks Layla in her annoying trademark high pitch lil’ girl voice. “Me and the buyer - whose identity I will absolutely keep confidential - are consenting adults engaging in free market capitalism. Just like in my new song, released next week: Free Love Doesn’t Come Cheap. By the way, have you seen your brother round here? I have a... uh... delivery for him.”

“This is totally demeaning to womankind!” complains ardent feminist Charlotte Butler, her gaze lingering a little too long on the popster’s posterior as she leaves the room. “If you care at all about preventing objectification, about human dignity, about the unhealthy false assignation of value to virginity, about the last hundred years of feminist progress, you have to take a stand! Ban this online prostitution, and put money into teaching young girls why they should respect themselves more!”

Everybody should be entitled to a happy ending, not just wealthy fat-cats. You have to set a fixed price tariff for these services, as well as guarantees that a contract will be honoured, rather than leaving customers and prostitutes at the mercy of a free market.”

But yes, I would pick option 1 as well.

I would just dismiss that issue.  It seems like all of the options would have undesirable results for my nation.

In my mind, prostitution is no different than any other service industry.  You sell a skill.  Usually it's your hands or your words.  Professional athletes sell their bodies all the time.  Extensive frickin contracts too.  Very invasive.
Especially as long as there is some kind of alternative for the poor, be it welfare or alternative employment, prostitution is ethical and as long as it is legit, it can be regulated, preventing underground systems from doing evil.

What I've always found really weird about the opposition to prostitution is the existence of pornography. Like, you can't have sex for a living away from prying eyes, but you can do it in front of a whole host of camera men, other actors and adoring crowds once it gets into the home of the consumer? What the hell?
