Mateo Regional Cutie Pie Act

Title
1) This act shall be cited as the Mateo Regional Cutie Pie Act.

Recognition
1) The Storting grants Mateo406 the honour title "Regional Cutie Pie", in recognition of his consistent, lovely presence in our regional community and his unofficial claim on the title, which has gone unclaimed in the entire history of Wintreath and has gone undisputed for over a month.

I remind my colleagues that there is hard-fought precedent for this in the form of the Chanku Recognitions Act.
I also remind my colleagues that the Monarch proposed this so this should be a no-brainer.

Can we actually vote on things before the Speaker election concludes though? I have no idea!

We could, theoretically, but with no Speaker no one could declare a motion passed or post a vote topic. It's a moot point, we will have a Speaker in at most two days, long before the requirements for motions comes.

I see no problem with this, legally speaking, there is precedent, no legal restriction in doing so. Why not? I currently see no reason to oppose this Act so I shall support it unless compelling reasons are given against.

Actually according to the Procedural Rules of the Underhusen, Section 2, you can only introduce proposals after the election of the Speaker not before.

However, in any case, I'm kinda against this act. Before people criticize me, while the Chanku Commendation Act did set some precedent there is more behind that act being passed such that: The recipient was in the region for 5 years prior and had served the region for a long period of time, I didn't really chose the title, further it was in recognition of some serve. Mateo has been here only two months. Honestly this just kinda feels like the Nox Demonym Act, just written a bit better.

However, in any case, I'm kinda against this act.

Chanku, please, you did choose the title. You certainly rejected a title you viewed as insufficient. And yes, no one will deny your achievements. However, that is rather beside the point.

I was also dragged through the mud in what has been called on the greatest embarrassments in our region's history. As, quite frankly, at that time I wanted it to never pass, and would have held that view even if the title wasn't changed. Further, I did not entirely select the title, it could have been passed without my nay vote and I certainly did not come up with, or fully select, the other title as well. The title is entirely Mateo's creation.

And again, Mateo has been in the region for less than a year, has made two forum posts, and has only really participated in a few places on the Discord, to my knowledge. This is entirely wanted for ego purposes and does not enshrine any accomplishments or achievments within our region, and would end up undermining the specialty of Storting-granted titles. If we grant this title, then why not grant Nox her status as officially unofficial Wintreath Mascot through law (which, I would argue, is certainly more deserved as she has been here for years, has held that spot uncontested for her entire duration here). Maybe if they've been here a bit longer, I could see myself being less opposed to this, but honestly, I see no reason why this should be passed, because they haven't done that much.

Finally, there is an issue I take with the title is that it is unlike the title I hold, in that it specifically names someone the 'regional cutie-pie' which is prone to making other people feel badly about themselves.

Very well. I disagree. I do not agree with this rather petty and vain reasoning. I do not agree that having someone, in good nature, be given the title of 'regional cutie pie' would make the vast majority of the region uncomfortable. I do not agree that this cheapens your accomplishments since, well, you still have your accomplishments. I do not see what the issue with Mateo creating the title himself is, it is hardly like he named himself Lord High God of Wintreath, no one in their right mind will think the title is a serious role. I do not agree that this cheapens Storting titles since as representatives of the people at large what those titles means are up to the people to define.

And, perhaps most importantly, I don't get why people would need to have done something to get a title? That would exclude a fair amount of regional contributions that are intangible.

So, unless further reasoning I can agree with is provided I will continue to support this.

I had no idea you were in the minds of every Wintrean here, or asked every Wintrean how they feel.

In respect to diminishing Storting-granted titles, it will diminish it by association, because titles through the Storting will be frivolous and easy to get, it makes the entire concept of storting-granted titles suspect and frivolous, and I would not be opposed to granting it to Nox -- who has been here for several years, has participated in the region more, and is even an administrator.

Further, if people wish to support it because I oppose it, because of immaturity, then so be it. I merely said I was against it and stated my reasons for doing so, and I was very well content to let that be that and say little more on it. However, further responses have necessitated my continuing response, mostly to defend myself. I did not think that this would have been a popular position, however I don't do or say things because they are popular, I do them because I view them as needing to be said, among other reasons.

If it is meant to be something given only to the most honorable and accomplished citizens, well, we have something for that, something you have: Commendations. So why not let titles be something more community based, lighthearted and casual?

So why not let titles be something more community based, lighthearted and casual?

The purpose of Commendations are for anyone in NationStates (or Wintreath) that the Storting feels that they deserve recognition for extreme acts of bravery, loyalty, or other qualities that are believed to warrent commendation. Effectively it's a broad commendation meant for the commission of an act (or acts) that is representative of the region, that serves the region, and that are holding qualities that deserve to be commended, these are usually more grand and extreme or over a very long period of time.

I would view titles as being a more common form of the Commendation, given to people who have done good things in Wintreath, for the community that deserve recognition, but not necessarily that which rises to the level of being commendation worthy or things that a commendation is not enough for. Examples could be: being really positive and improving the community through that, helping organize small events or other things, etc.

Then we agree that titles can be something given out on a more casual basis so what, pray tell, is the issue?
