    Species and Cultures Thread

As people keep adding species and things, I thought that it would be prudent to create this species and cultures thread so people can describe their character's species, its attributes, cultural differences, etc.

'Cultures' is more something that I added for human characters, to describe the differences within the species, which has now spread across various worlds, causing a great many outlooks to arise :)

  • I am using the template of Dinobatacorn, but due to the circumstances of my character there will be a few specifications

    Appearence (Bellarum Clone Marine Template)
    Skin: a very pale white
Hair: primarily light brown, however due to how old the template is some variance has occurred in batches
Eyes: most often a dark hazel but occasional variance
Height: 5' 5" exactly, making them a small enough to navigate through many enclosed spaces in boarding actions, but big enough to take on even the largest of humanoid biological adversaries
Weight: The marine template are trained and engineered to muscular 'perfection' which in the eyes of the Bellarum military is to maximize the usability and durability of the body, to most humans Bellarum Marine templates would look somewhat muscular but not in a 'fashionable' sense.
Age: Reaching the equivalent human maturity of 14 years at 3 years, Bellarum Clones are given drugs to counteract their accelerated growth rate once they reach the maturity of a human 30 year old. However few Bellarum clones of any combat template live longer than 10 years.

    Culture
Clothing: Bellarum civilians enjoy great luxury and all sorts of fashion, extending to the officer corps of the military with colourful uniforms adorned with many insignia made with various rare metals and jewels. Most Clones on the other hand with the exception of some 'bodyguard' and 'parade' templates often nicknamed 'fashion accessory templates' are issued with clothing and equipment that is purely functional with little to no adornment aside from designation to their units.
Religion: Bellarum is a harshly atheistic culture who deny the existence of any God or Gods and believe those who do believe in such superstition to be primitive savages.
Values: Bellarum is a constantly expanding Empire whose citizens are always striving for more material wealth, and personal perfection in every sense of the word. Eugenics is the norm with more wealthy parents able to modify every aspect of their baby's traits using the genetic material of the two parents and even other individuals if they so choose. But the social elite is built upon a foundation of slavery made up of both genetically engineered slaves in their clones, and those brought back from foreign conquests. The values taught to the clone marines are very similar to those taught to most Bellarum clones: Loyalty to the Empire, Death before Surrender, the mission above all but the Empire. Bellarum clones are considered biological machines from the day they are born rather than as people.
Government: Organized Aristocracy, led by an elected Emperor. The Clones are a hardline meritocracy with those more capable taking higher positions within their rank structure.
Economy: The Bellarum Empire is a war based economy with most of their income coming through war booty including the purchase and sale of slaves, and the production and sale of Clones.
Language: Bellarum citizens speak Bellari, but the clones are taught every language that can be crammed into their heads to make them as useful as possible. However those clones within the Empire are forbidden from speaking Bellari as the language is too pure for such 'creatures' to speak.

The Planet: Bellarum (However K011 and most clones are born on cloning facilities in orbit of various planets, K011 like many marines has never been to the surface of a planet
Ecosystem: originally a planet like earth, it has long since been modified into a paradise world through biological engineering.
Demographics: Bellarum humans are the only native intelligent life on the planet, but there are hundreds of intelligent species living among the planet's slave population.
Climate: Every climate imaginable can be found somewhere on the planet depending on personal preference, one needs only go to the right area.

  • The Mikaala

    Appearance
Skin: Usually shades of blue, green and turquoise, though it should be noted that some Mikaala have purple or even cherry red skin.
Hair: Tendrils that once housed venom top the heads of the Mikaala in shades throughout the visible spectrum, with green, orange, and dark purple being the most common by far.
Eyes: Yellow to orange, with the compound pupil being a darker version of the sclera.
Height: On average, Mikaala are 5'10".
Weight: On average, Mikaala are lighter than other species of the same size at around 100lbs.
Age: The Mikaala age very slowly compared to humans, usually attaining adulthood at around 50 earth years with an average lifespan of 400 earth years.

    Culture
Clothing: Mikaala clothing is diverse, mostly utilizing colorful designs and loose cloth around the waist similar to a robe or a dress. However, what makes it unique is that almost everything is interwoven with marine designs, such as clam shells, tail flukes, and spirals, that call back to the oceans of Urrnab.
Religion: The main religion is Haabiism, which venerates the god of the waters.
Values: The Mikaala believe in the integration of nature into everything, which has led them to create technologies such as bacterial metal creation or houses grown from plants or stationary animals like sponges and coral. There's also a general cultural doctrine called "The Equality of All," which posits that any species with the capability to use complex language should be considered equal to all other species with that capability, regardless of values or even intelligence level.
    Government: Social democracy.
Economy: Relies on a horizontal class system, made up of the proletarians, the academics, the administrators, and the warriors. People can move between classes with relative ease, and no one is considered better than the other. Though all Mikaala have their basic needs met, so-called extras have to be bought with money earned from a job.
    Language: Urrnabi

    The Planet: Urrnab
Ecosystem: Mostly oceanic, with islands dotting the landscape. Most life lives in the water, including fish-like animals that use sonar instead of eyes, and mollusk-like animals that seem to make humans uncomfortable with how much they look like them. Life on land is typically mollusk-like as well, having turned their shells into bone-like structures. There are also small reptile-like animals that forage for food, much like mammals did in the Cretaceous period on Earth.
Demographics: Though Mikaala are the only native species with human-like consciousness, they welcome all other species to their planet.
Climate: Generally warm and humid, though it gets colder and more continental as you get away from the equator.
