What is this Server?
   This server is the Officially Unoffical Wintreath Tekkit Server! Meaning that it's made by a Wintrean, funded by Wintreans, for Wintreans. While this is primarily a Wintreath Server, anyone can join and play. All that is asked is that you don't be a dick, and that you keep in mind that the server host willingly applies Wintrean Law to the server.

Why does this server exist?
   The server originated when I just wanted to play some Tekkit with some friends, so I threw up a temporary server and played. It slowly grew in player size, and eventually it was decided to move to a larger server and to keep it up 24/7. Which is now why this post exists!

How do I join the server?
   Download the Tekkit Pack from the Technic Launcher and launch it! Just join how you would any other Minecraft server afterwards.

Can you add X mod?
   No, it would require a custom pack, which I am not really wanting to put the energy and time into working on.

Can you add X plugin?
   Maybe! Please ask about the Plugin and what you want it for. This is mainly because I want to try and keep the amount of plugins a bit lower and to have less larger plugins and have smaller plugins that do a few small things to lead to emergent gameplay.

What plugins will you likely be adding?
   At this time Prision Pearl, Citadel, CivChat, and JukeAlert are on the list, depending on how it interacts with the mods.

Why are there only two rules?
   Because this is a small server, it doesn't need a long list, just saying "Hey don't do this!" Generally I expect those who play on the server to adhere to this, and also because things like Prison Pearl will reduce the need for moderation (hopefully).

Why is there a donation link?
   Because the server costs a decent portion of money each month to run, and I can't afford it by myself. Thankfully this server has been made possible thanks to people like Elbbsas, Crushita, and AJ!

What happens if the server gets more money than needed?
   It depends on how much over we get. Generally if we can ensure that the next month is paid for, we will donate the overage to Wintreath. This is mainly to ensure that we can keep running even with a low amount of donation on one month. It is noted that the amount we need is about $15/month, so once we hit that anything over will be considered overage, as the server owner is responsible for some costs.

@BraveSirRobin you might be interested

If there are any unused Mystcraft ages you happen to make, please let me know so I can delete them from the server so the worlds don't take up unnecessary space (This increases the backup size and the length of time to create and restore backups. It also makes it longer for the server to start and stop, albeit this shouldn't be too bad.).

Heh, thanks. I would also thank everyone who has donated thus far in order to ensure this server actually happened (Elbb, Crush, and AJ). I wouldn't have been able to start this up without them.

The Tekkit Server is currently down due to what seems to be a Mystcraft issue. I will look into it and restart the server when i am able to do so.

EDIT/UPDATE
Alright, so the server is back online and should be operational for now. It seems like the server ran out of swap space due to some reason. With the logs I have from the server, I am unsure at this time if it was Mystcraft related, or just bad timing. as it does not seem like the server was generating a world or anything. The server was killed due to running out of swap space, so it could have been anything from a Memory Leak to a Mystcraft bug. I am currently profiling the server and keeping an eye on it.

However with this I would like to request the following of all of the players:

• DO NOT use Mystcraft Descriptive Books without me (or someone else who has access to the Terminal, at this time there is no one) around to be able to fix the server. (See edit 2)
• Be careful when changing dimensions, doing so causes a Memory Leak (this is a Vanilla Minecraft Bug) so please exercise caution when doing so (particularly with Dimensional Doors.)

Hopefully I can get a proper Post-Mortem up soon, after some additional testing. However until then, I would like all players to please follow the requests that I have asked of you, if you do not I may have to temporarily disable or ban these things entirely, or until I can figure out what is happening.

Last night, I learned that Hannah and Margot have been using Linkbooks prior to the usage from Elbb, with little issue. As such, I am revising the requests a bit,

• Exercise caution when using Mystcraft books, especially if the resulting world MIGHT be unstable. If you don't have many pages to use, please wait until someone with terminal access (at the moment this is just myself) is around so I can restart the server if it dies.
• Be careful when changing dimensions, doing so causes a Memory Leak (this is a Vanilla Minecraft Bug) so please exercise caution when doing so (particularly with Dimensional Doors.)

Hopefully I can figure out more information as time goes on, however part of this also is dependent upon [i[HOW[/i] Mystcraft generates worlds, and when it does so. If it does it at book creation or at travel time. This will allow me to better establish cause and effect, but until I can firmly establish such, please exercise caution when using Mystcraft. I am also going to look into ways to solve the Memory Leak issue, albeit that will likely be longer.

A thank-you to everyone for understanding and working with me on this to figure out what happened.

The server crashed under a similar error to a few nights ago, I'll be trying to get some stuff setup to help get more information and data about the crashes, along with something to auto-restart the server.

Until such a time that I can figure out what is the cause of the crashes and until I can fix it, I am temporarily requesting that everyone not use either mod until I can figure it out. Hopefully some mitigation can be implemented for the MFR stuff at some point.

Additionally the server now has the program I was working on to manage the server a bit. (I realized as I was setting it up a simple script would have done just fine and been done quicker, HOWEVER this does give me more leeway in the future, and I learned from it so meh.). Due to this i am lifting the complete restriction request and just merely requesting that everyone uses Mystcraft and Dimensional Doors with CAUTION and avoid traveling between dimensions when possible until I can get the auto-restarts setup.

Alright so a quick update:

Daily Restarts should now be implemented alongside daily backups. This occurs every day at Midnight UTC. If the server continues to crash after this, I will increase it to every twelve hours. If I can not solve it, I may very much issue a ban on some things, however this SHOULD.

Additionally, I may not be able to implement plugins just yet, as I can't find a download that I can use for Cauldron which is what I need, albeit I may be able to find one soon. I do apologize for this, however I didn't realize Cauldron isn't something you can really find anymore. Hopefully I can find a copy I can trust soon for 1.6.4.

Additionally, I encourage people to post here about what they are doing on the server and things like that!


In any case, I've started to redesign my base and do a remodel of the Kaizer House. Also I've learned how awesome Carpenter's Blocks is.

I myself have started to move house out to a far biome, around 1500 blocks from spawn. That way I can finally have my own, dedicated nether portal. I wanna make the house look nice.

I've officially gotten the daily restart to work, as such I'm lifting any restrictions Mystcraft/Dimensonal Doors and Dimensonal Travel in general. I would, however, like to ask that everyone still use some thought when making dimensions, and to not make them needlessly. If you don't use a Dimension anymore, please tell me so I can delete the world file.

I'll be looking to find a version of Cauldron that works with 1.6.4 as well, so that we can get plugins. If I can't I'll try and implement whatever I can forge-side and just try my hand at making server-side mods for Minecraft if necessary.
