Thanks for wanting to recruit for Wintreath! Recruiting is important because that's how we introduce our region and community to new and returning players looking for a NationStates home. When they decide to join us, they bring new perspectives and ideas while helping to keep us an active and vibrant community. Recruiters are a huge help to Wintreath, and once you're set up, it only takes a few seconds to recruit to each nation, meaning that you can recruit even if you don't have much time on your hands.

We recruit by sending telegrams to nations that have recently been founded or refounded, but we've developed a tool that makes things a little easier for our recruiters. This guide will show you how to get set up so you can recruit, then show you how to use the recruitment page to get to the nations to send your telegrams to. Getting Authorization to Recruit
Because other regions have had issues with rogue nations sending out bogus recruitment telegrams in their name (for example, to make it look like the region is recruiting from other user-created regions), we maintain a whitelist of authorized recruiters. NationStates will give you an error if you aren't on the whitelist and try to recruit, but getting added is as easy as contacting me.

1) Contact Wintermoot with the name of the nation you will be recruiting from.

Setting up for Recruiting
First, we're going to create a NationStates telegram template, which will provide you with a short code that's easier to store and use when recruiting. To do this:

1) Log into the nation that you intend to recruit with, and click the Telegrams button.

2) At the top of the page there should be an area to write a telegram. In the To field type in tag:template. The text (Create Telegram Template) should appear under the field.

3) Click the down arrow beside the To field to reveal more options. Make sure the This is a recruitment telegram box is checked! Recruitment telegrams must be marked like this according to NS rules, so double-check that you've done this step to avoid the wrath of NS moderation! When checked, it should read This is a recruitment telegram for Wintreath.

4) Paste the recruitment message into the message field. The current message is in the spoiler tag below. Be sure to add your name/nation and any Wintreath titles at the bottom, and feel free to modify the message within reason to add your personal flair to it if you would like.

-We have one of the largest regional executive Cabinets in NationStates, with all Vice-Minister positions elected every three months!
-Appointed and volunteer positions allow you to help with the work of the Wintrean government, serve the region, and make a name for yourself!
-We aim to be a meritocratic society that will appreciate and recognize your work and accomplishments in our region.

At this point, your screen should look something like this:



5) Hit Send. You should now see a code that looks something like %TEMPLATE-11111111%. Keep this code! Also, be sure to use the link to preview your template, especially to make sure that at the top-right of your message there's a black silohette of a person. This shows that your telegram is marked as a recruitment telegram.



6) Optional: Go to Settings, then scroll down and click the Telegrams: Preferences link and make sure the Always show compose box option is checked. This will automatically open the telegram compose box when you go to another nation's page. If you're using a link from our recruitment page, the browser will automatically scroll down to the open telegram box, saving you a little time and effort.

Using the Recruiter Page and Sending a Recruitment Telegram
At this point, you should be set up for recruiting with a template code that you will use to send your recruitment message to other nations. We'll go over how to use the recruiter page and send those telegrams now.

1) Go to our recruiter page at wintreath.com/recruit. You should see a list of nations that you can recruit to on the left, and various stats on the right. If you're using a phone or tablet the stats may be above or below the list of nations.

2) At the top right, under My Template & Stats, you should see a blank field. Copy the template code you received when setting up your recruitment telegram in this field! When the field turns green, that means the code has been saved, and you can copy the code from here when you recruit in the future.

3) Click on a nation in the list to go to that nation's page on NationStates. If you set up your telegram preferences (Step 6 above), your browser should scroll down to the already open telegram box on their page. Otherwise, you will need to manually scroll to the bottom of the page and hit the Write Telegram button.

4) Copy the template code into the telegram box and hit Send.

Congratulations on sending your first recruitment telegram! From this point forward, just follow step 3 to recruit more nations.
