Alright, so far the only story idea I've got for this is that our king died without any heirs, so now Burdock and Valeria are vying for the throne. Thoughts?

Helloooo everyone! Me and Laurentus were chatting in Discord trying to figure out my house's status when he came up with the idea that the House of Telcontar, fresh out of losing its civil war in Ainur, has turned its sights on a fractured Wintreath, so while Burdock and Valeria vie for the throne, a third outside power looms over them both. Would you guys be interested in this idea?

A large part of our backstories can be influenced by actual history, here. Burdock, while the newest high noble house, is also the only purely Wintrean major house, while Valeria came, say 50 years ago and just quickly set up shop to gain a shit-load of influence.

Houses Kasten and Meindhert are rumoured to have heirs out there somewhere, but most consider them dead. Maybe they even died in a previous civil war or something.

I know this is fundamentally a conflict between noble houses, but is there any place for, say, the equivalent of a free imperial city governed by some sort of Hanseatic-League-style merchant group?

It would fit the time line of the RP... but I'm guessing such a thing would need to develop over time, IC.

Fuck it, I'm going with Marinia. All we need now are overly complex plots involving weaponised penguins, cheese cannons and chocolate chip cookies.
