Debate 4: The Speaker

The Underhusen is led by a Speaker, an appointed position whose role is to ensure that procedures are correctly followed. This position also has a unique though unwritten ability to assume leadership of the chamber and to have an agenda of items he or she would like the Storting to cover during that session. If you were appointed as Speaker of the Underhusen, what agenda would you pursue? What issues do you feel should be focused on most during this session?

As covered in Debate 3, the judiciary and legal procedures are a primary focus for me in the upcoming Underhusen. Its important to codify our laws and to set forth procedures for the efficient prosecution of all cases brought before the judiciary. At the same time, I think expanding cultural goals should be taken up by the Storting, and to that aim festivals, social or cultural organizations and regional media should be on the mind of the Storting also.
