  • Oooh, you used bechamel sauce instead of the traditional ricotta cheese layer. Have you done a lasagna with and without a bechamel sauce so you can tell me which one is better. I've been planning on changing my recipe by adding bechamel but I wanted a reference before doing it.

    Hmm? I first made this with my Italian friend and they said this is the way her grandmother does it, soo? Maybe it's a geographical thing (she's from Sardinia).
    Either way, the bechamel version is definitely yummy and I can't get Ricotta here...

    I used to buy my ricotta but during quarantine I couldn't anymore so I actually found a cool recipe to make your own ricotta. Its really simple, about 7 cups of milk, cook it until it is boiled, then add like 1/3 cup of any acid (I used lemon juice), stir it for a few minutes, and then strain it into a cheese clothe. It tasted just as good as store bought.

  • I think ricotta in lasagna is an American thing because my Italian grandmother's recipe also uses bechamel and not ricotta.

  • @Red Mones: That looks very artistic! I tend to pile mine with pepperoni and other toppings and coat it all in a thick layer of cheese, so it comes out not looking very artistic, lol.

  • As is tradition in my household for my birthday (well... for the past three years), we watched the Lord of the Rings trilogy and cooked up some food to eat along with it. We ended up only having a day rather than two, so the menu got cut down a lot last minute. Photos courtesy of my wife (so the quality is her fault).
    Breakfast: Full English Breakfast (sorta)
    Lunch: Mushroom Soup
    Dinner: Scotch Eggs (not pictured) followed by Mince Pies
