Sorry that I haven't had a chance to reply back, it's been...something of a week.
I've been concerned about the potential of Funkadelia couping the region since he returned from 'retirement' a few months back, extolling the need to make Lazarus 'spicy'. It quickly became clear to me that he was here for his own amusement and power rather than maintaining the rule of law, and I watched as he, Lamb, and killer kitty (all members of the raider organization Lone Wolves United) bullied several members they didn't like out of the region. It's why I became a Guardian (a member of Lazarus's security council) and ran for Defender of the Realm (Vice-Delegate).
However, things started to become blatant several weeks ago during votes in the region's open assembly to reaffirm the security council. A large influx of people signed up for Citizenship during these elections and voted along with Funkadelia and his clique to remove Harmoneia, someone who had been involved in Lazarus for a decade. As Sovereign, Funkadelia approved these Citizenship applications, and as election commissioner he accepted their votes even though it was illegal to do so (he (or a member of his group, I don't remember which) claimed that reconfirmation votes didn't count as elections, and thus the laws forbidding Citizens that joined during an election from voting in it didn't apply). Afterwards, they voted as a bloc to install killer kitty to the regional court, while also blocking to keep Church of Satan out of it. With several other people on the court on his side, this effectively gave him control of the court.
Around this time, I was approached by a small group of people (which would later grow into the "resistance" chat as more people became involved) about these events, and we began discussing how to resist what was going on within our legal means. Our intention was to resist further attempts by he and his group to consolidate power, and then to legally remove him as Sovereign, by either participating in elections next month or initiating a recall against him if things came to a head beforehand. I want to emphasize that the chat only focused on legal methods to resist and remove a Sovereign we felt had participated in corruption and collusion to subvert the region for himself and possibly for Lone Wolves United.
Over time, the chat grew to involve nearly two dozen concerned people, which is why I'm not surprised that it eventually leaked. Funkadelia and friends took portions of the chat and posted them out of context to make it look like the chat had been discussing a coup against him, as pretext for couping the region himself. That would be the topic that Mathyland posted. He then charged 22 people (the last time I counted) with treason and other charges, and removed their Citizenship masking immediately afterwards to boot. This group not only includes people from the chat, but people who appear to have simply disagreed with his actions afterwards. The resistance has set up a government-in-exile, and is actively fighting to oppose Funkadelia and restore legal order to the region.
There's a lot of disingenuous shit on the NationStates Gameplay forum...everything posted to that area is done so with an agenda behind it, so take anything you read there with a grain of salt. However, the fact of the matter is that a small group of people have seized power in Lazarus and are now attempting to purge dozens of Citizens from it in order to consolidate their own power. I've become aware that they're now trying to change the Constitution, with Funkadelia proposing a new constitution that would effectively make him 'king' for as long as he wanted (removal would require 80% of voters to support it, he would have full control over acceptance of Citizenship apps, and even if he were removed he would control who his successor is). It's really as simple as that.
I hope this answers any questions that anyone had. I'm sorry again that I wasn't able to reply before now, but again...it's been a very busy and stressful week for me. I should be better able to reply quickly after tomorrow though.
