  • No need to change your avatar or anything, but thinking about the countryball thing makes me sad, even though it's part of the reason I'm here now.

The last region I was in, they started doing the countryball thing for all their active members. I think just a month ago they had this huge image of a few dozen of them on their region page.

At the time, I wasn't sure if I was fitting in. I'd been there for what must have been months, I thought I was RP'ing pretty well, and I thought my non-RP posts were funny and insightful. I tried to tell myself that my worrying was my low self-esteem acting up again, that I needed to stop sabotaging myself, and that everything was okay.

And then they made their countryball poster thing. So many people got in on that. But I was missing. Nobody asked me if I wanted to be a part of it, nobody else seemed to notice I wasn't on it. It was like being left out of the school yearbook all over again. Or any instance of seeing a group of people happy together, and only being able to look at them from afar from some dark corner with envy. Apparently it wasn't paranoia this time, the people who I thought were becoming my friends really didn't consider me to be one of them. They haven't even noticed that I left. After all the hours I spent with them, I still didn't matter.

I'd like to say it was a learning experience, but there were no hints that I did anything wrong. Maybe I should have just bluntly asked what they didn't like about me. Probably too late now, I don't think I want an even more self-esteem breaking answer of "Who are you?" after all of that. Why would they remember me, I'm not on their countryball banner with all the other important people and a few people who had spent far less time with them.

I know countryball things are a fad on NS right now for some reason, not sure how that started, but I think just for me I look forward to getting rid of that bad memory. I couldn't take it when I was a part of the region before leaving, every time I looked it was a message to me saying "This is all of us, you're not part of it".

  • Pro tip: making a polandball poster for a region as a new player and leaving out several prominent members of the Dunn unity 8)

More seriously though, sorry that happened! It is really annoying to be ignored/overlooked/forgotten. I hate the deeling. Usually it can be avoided by presenting ludicrous ideas or the like, but sometimes people are just forgetful primates too concerned with getting their own stockpile of bananas and forget about others :/

  • The way I ended up becoming a prominent member of my first region was literally by role playing a member of my own nation and speaking in broken english. Zhat isz vhei Iey vhiel szoumtiemesz talkh liekh zisz.
