Yo, I'm Ponderosa. I'm new here and would like citizenship. My big claim to fame on NationStates is being the author of a guide to Wikipedia-style factbooks, which have become quite popular.

Well, not yet. But I just got back from teaching English in Japan for about 8 months and thought some people might be interested in hearing about it. If you have any questions, ask away.

Ooh, interesting. My wife always thought it would be really cool to go teach English in Japan. What was that like?

Was there anything you missed from America while there? And is there anything from Japan that you miss now that you're back?

The language barrier was definitely the hardest part, and probably the biggest reason why I left. It's hard to form friendships without speaking the same language, and it makes a lot of things more inconvenient.
On the other hand, I think I'm going to miss the everyday conveniences. Things like public transportation going everywhere, and everything else being within walking distance. And people are so helpful there - no matter what they'll always try to help you out.
