The metal based compounds are used for their adhesive properties
smells will stay on you longer when they are stuck to you and that's also why it's in some sticky plasters... aluminium based compounds are also in there. The deodorants and shampoo's without these adhesives don't last as long and don't smell as nice and are more expensive, same for non-metallic sticky plasters
