Depending on who the foreign minister is, at times the South Pacific has decided to no longer use their embassies, and I know it's also been a position advocated by Ravenclaw (currently of the North Pacific) at times.

What's the reasoning for that? What's the point of having a foreign ministry if you do that?

Their reasoning is that it's difficult to maintain active ambassadors, and most real diplomacy takes places at higher levels in private IRC and Discord channels...they feel there isn't any benefit to maintaining embassies.

There is a logic to opening but not regularly posting updates for large regions who have numerous embassies. Balder has traditionally stuggled to have enough ambassadors to ease the work load but with enough active members this can be compensated for. Regular contact with your embassies is important to ensure both regions are alive.

I think it's valuable to occasionally reach out to communities in other regions...it shouldn't be all about the leaders and the foreign ministers. Depending on the region, sometimes it's successful and sometimes it isn't, though.
