Alright welcome one and all to this debate. This area is an open-forum dedicated to allow the candidates to debate one another and to allow the candidates to directly debate each other on issues...instead of having to raid one another's own campaign threads.

There are no true rules, but I do ask for any questions addressed at just one candidate be asked within their campaign threads unless it is done by a candidate while debating a point. I also ask for everything to remain civil and to also for candidates to answer any questions they pose in a different post, ideally last. But other than that let's begin!

A question for my fellow candidates.  I think I have been clear on my stance of the activity in the region, especially with the government.  What is your views on the activity in the region and government?

Well I don't think we are doing enough to be frank, and I am one of the biggest culprits of this, of course it is a quiet time in the region generally, but I still think that ministries and the government should find something to do, that's why I recently quite liked the silliness with the potato god, it gave the legislative branch something to do and people to talk about plus it was fun to watch... those are my views at the present time.

I think you and I have talked about this on IRC but just for the record, I think that our regional activity has been kinda low and i hope to work with the UH to fix that. It's something that i believe that due to us being boring, not that what we have now is bad but i think that people get a bit bored with the same routine. If we change things up with wintreath as a whole we can give the government and people more things to do.

What exactly would you do to improve activity? One of the first things that people concluded in the Constitutional Convention was that there wasn't any real way to make the Underhusen more active, because there wasn't much that it needed to do at this point.

well moot with what we have now, no there is much more for the UH to do but my plan is to work with everyone to change wintreath as a whole. the UH and indeed the government as a whole would have much more to do if more of wintreath was a country simulator. Imagine turning the main part of wintreath into areas where people would get to buy houses, transportation and things like that. In that environment the UH would get to handle laws like prostitution, marriage (polygamy and such), and the government would finally able to implement the national currency.

But what would be the benefit of buying houses and transportation? Why would people want to buy them?

because my goal is that being in wintreath is like if you went to a different country and you are actually living there. people would need the houses and cars to live. we would be able to have everyone interact organically as if we were all meeting in person. houses and transportation would be just on small part that i used as an example, the endgame is that i want everyone to feel closer to each other than ever before and i want there to always be something to do. towards the end we can have working stores, people making goods, abilities people are naturally good at, government positions with more to do and more important than now, and to borrow from gerrick i believe, familial houses and ties that mean something. it'll be a lot of work and will require everyone working together on the same page but just building this new wintreath alone will bring activity to a much higher figure than what we have now. this is also the perfect time since summer is coming to a close.

So are you saying people wouldn't be able to roleplay having houses or cars until they bought them? I'm just trying to understand how it would work in practice.

well its still a work in progress so i haven't figured out the details but i had an idea i came up with just to keep things even, I didn't want to seem unfair with such a change after all. so here is my idea:everyone with the exception of you mootles will start with little to no resources (resources being either money or actual wood and stuff i haven't decided) we can go two ways with it. one either we build wintreath from the ground up that's for a very long term roleplay type thing and everyone will have a hand in building the new wintreath, or we can use what we have now just implement a currency system that will be used for upkeep and buying goods so those who want to have a house or whatever goods we develop will need money to be able to get them so they need a way to get money so they get a job and stuff which will start the circulation of money. does that make sense? keep in mind that this is a very very rough draft of my idea. i'll need a ot of help for the actual design and implementation.

So I guess what I'm coming to is why not have a roleplay like any of our others, and combine your idea with Pengu's recent proposal for a legislature that does some of the things you've mentioned?

well moot if i were to put this idea as just another roleplay it would defeat the purpose behind the idea. regular roleplays get forgotten, interest gets lost, or people don't have time to play them. with this (once it gets polished) the region will have so much to do that activity should increase and people will have fun doing everything no problem. i know my ideas seem a little vague but i plan on making a topic for this idea somewhere and post an entire outline for it.

To be fair this is something that I have considered for a bit, and to be honest, while we could be more active I personally don't think there is much to be concerned about yet. There has certainly been less activity than in the past few months, however right now it is during the general summer lull, and for some places in the world school is starting back up soon, or has already. I do think that in a month or two activity will begin to pick back up again.


Now Lord Belmont, I have an issue with your proposition. It would make roleplay essentially mandatory for anyone with a government position, but what about those that don't care to roleplay? I am one of those people, I don't really like Roleplay all that much, excluding light roleplays like the Tavern, as such for those people it may very well heavily discourage actively participating within the Government.

Further if regular roleplays get forgotten and they loose interest, does that not mean that perhaps people here don't care for roleplaying as much as your idea might require?

I have a question...considering how Wintreath is one of the most personable regions in NationStates when it comes to our real-life selves, would the candidates pledge to make an appearance in Post Your Picture if they haven't already done so in the past?
