So go ahead, ask me anything, and I'll record my response.

What's your best impression of an American accent?

Also, this one is less a question and more a demand: can you sing Let It Go from Disney's Frozen?

Uh. Do you have anything specific you wish for me to try and act out in an American accent?

And I suppose I could try and sing that. Far away from any people who can hear me.

This is me attempting a typical American accent. As you can probably hear, it didn't turn out well.

That actually was pretty good. I guess I didn't think about the fact that the only time you'd hear Americans talk would be on TV/movies. Probably not a ton of American tourists in South Africa I would guess

I have an American neighbour, actually. I just haven't practised an American accent with him. And before that, I've encountered Americans very briefly a few times. There are a lot of American and European tourists. They just don't often make it to Pretoria. They prefer to see Cape Town, or famous places like the Kruger National Park or Soweto. There were quite a few people from all over the world during the 2010 FIFA World Cup, and among them quite a few Americans too, but you don't really get a chance to converse with them when everyone's screaming at the top of their lungs during a soccer match at a stadium.

So yeah, most of my experience has been from film and TV.

@tau, I definitely will, just not tonight. My BlackBerry can't multitask while recording a voice note, so I'd need to have my tablet with me at a wifi-hotspot to view the page while recording. As luck would have it, that's tomorrow.

@Lumen, sure thing. Here it is. I'll just mention that I absolutely despise cats, and that was the only time anyone will hear me impersonate an animal again in this thread. It is rather embarrassing.

I've never understood why people who aren't from America like to try American accents... it could just be that I'm American and I think that they sound stupid, but oh well.  That actually sounded quite good, Laurentus! I could've mistaken you for someone from the eastern seaboard!

And totally do Let It Go. It's such a fun song. Perhaps even do it in Afrikaans!

So, despite my better judgment, I just recorded myself singing Let It Go, and... well, you be the judge of the results.

I made quite a few mistakes, since I don't know the song by heart, but I went all out, as you can hear. Now enjoy your laugh.

Also, I know I say the "th" sound like either a "v" or an "f." I have to really concentrate to say it properly.
