  • If we're about to have a ground confrontation, it's important. I want to know how heavy my firepower needs to be to stop you from harming the King. :P
I have a feeling that we have a crucial misunderstanding about what is going to happen in the next few posts. This lone ship isn't supposed to end their civilization: it's supposed to attack a large-ish village in order to capture their people and resources, as well as to determine the primitives' tactics, technology, and culture. When it's time to truly conquer the planet, an entire fleet is sent in, usually regardless of the technological level.
Then the village shall be protected. I still need those specs.
    *sigh*

Okay, fine. I'll cook up some infantry specs. Give me a few hours.

    • To sit back hoping that someday, some way, someone will make things right is to go on feeding the crocodile, hoping he will eat you last - but eat you he will.

  • Alright, time for the conversation I have been dreading since I had the idea: the debate on whether or not the War Mantle is OP. So, here is an intensive description of how the pride of the Exodite Army works.

The War Mantle is the name for an extremely advanced regenerative infantry power armor, crafted delicately by the most skilled Builders and the wisest and most learned Occultists for commanders on the ground or in combat.

-Defense: Making liberal use of nanotechnology, the War Mantle uses microscopic shock absorbers, super-strong carbon fiber, and the highest power energy shield that you can find outside of a spacecraft to protect it's wearer. In testing, users have actually been seen throwing out the folds of the Mantle to intercept high-caliber bullets.

-Strength: Micromachinery and a thin yet high-strength mithrilium load bearing exoskeleton not only renders the heavy armor super light to it's wearer, but gives the user strength and agility abilities unseen anywhere else, except perhaps for industrial lifting exoskeletons.

-Sight: As the War Mantle is predominantly used by high-level battlefield commanders, the helm of the armor is packed with sensors and micro-supercomputers (the processing power of IRL iPhones) as well as a highly encrypted and powerful communication line, allowing for the wearer to be extremely aware of his surroundings and able to access all tactical options.

-Regeneration: Nanites play a large role in the War Mantle. Using carbon from wrecked parts, dust in the air, or even scrubbed from CO2 in the atmosphere, they can repair the armor over time. Large wounds take longer to heal than small wounds, but as long as the Core isn't significantly damaged, given enough carbon the entire Mantle can be rebuilt from scratch.

-ONE WITH THE ARMOR, ONE WITH THE FIGHT: The nanites also do something rather... unsettling, when a Damli puts on the War Mantle. They immediately and seamlessly merge the armor with the body, nerves, and muscle of the operator, turning the War Mantle and the Damli pilot into one symbiotic organism built for the destruction of others. This allows for a flawless and smooth and easy command of the myriad parts and controls of the Mantle. However, the disadvantages of this are spelled down below.

-The one weakness, the Core: the crystalline fusion battery and the surrounding micro-quantum computer system that fuels and commands the entire War Mantle is called "the Core", and it is typically worn either on the chest or the back of the operator, depending on their preference. The Core is heavily armored, but if it damaged beyond repaired or destroyed by a high-powered explosive or anti-tank weapon, the entire Mantle system would be disabled, rendering the armor greatly weakened, unable to regenerate, and too heavy to be carried. And, if the power of the Core and the nanites were to fail before the emergency ejection sequence is complete, or if the Damli pilot had received significant brain damage before activating the armor... Let's just say the result is very painful and very ugly, even if the pilot somehow briefly survives.

Well, what do you guys think? *hides under desk, preparing for "HELLA NERF NAO" to roar down from the heavens*

Keep in mind, I don't have any tanks. I would be willing to sacrifice my ability to have armored ground vehicles if I got to keep this.

  • Also, who plays these natives? Or will they remain mostly offscreen?
Since I intend on launching the attack on their village (and later, hopefully, their entire civilization), I plan on controlling them. Unless someone else wants to?

Is it too late for me to volunteer?

I feel it only fair. I was shitting all over Aragonn in PvC. I guess it's time for him to return the favour. :P

He's supposed to be protecting the primitives from my Scout ship, not helping me laser their stone walls down. :P

One of us they will see as demons, the other they will see as angels. Guess which is which.

  • Perhaps post-battle. At first contact, they're going to be scared shitless of both of you.

The battle is first contact, if everything goes the way I think it will go.

  • By the way, if we get this War Mantle thing figured out, I'll be able to finish the infantry specs.

  • If you sacrifice your ability to use armored vehicles to use this War Mantle battlesuit, I think it would be justified. As for the armor regeneration, it has to be slow. It cannot be on a factor of Wolverine or Deadpool. And having the speed and reaction time to intercept a projectile flying Mach 1-3 is definitely too much. Tone that down. As for everything else, it seems fine to me.

I don't believe I've stated this anywhere on the Wintreath forum, but Aesir destroyers carry a crew of about 380 (bridge crew and engineers) and 1000 Drekrekkr for possible engagements on planet and lunar surfaces as well as defending against boarders in naval confrontations. Destroyers only carry 15 Valkyries, and each Valkyrie can hold up to 20 soldiers inside, so a maximum of 300 can be deployed at once to a terrestrial surface. Return trips must be made for more to be deployed, and the destruction of Valkyries will make reinforcing harder. Why am I handing you the key to my failure? Must be because I'm tired from working...

Yes, you may control the primitives. :P And I highly doubt swords, spears, and arrows will do anything to 9 foot tall lizards wearing power armor with adamantium plates. You'll be able to knock us down with a solid catapult hit, but we'll get right back up. 8) If you truly have a hope at killing any of my Marines, you need to land direct hits with trebuchets. Good luck with that.
