Remember, no man is a failure who has friends.When I founded Wintreath a week ago, I didn't know what was going to happen. I didn't know where I'd end up on NationStates or even if I'd still be on it. I founded this region to have a place for my nations while I decided my future on this game. I didn't ask anyone to come into the region, our chatroom, or this forum, and yet here we are. I said at one point during my depature from Spiritus that it's times like these that show who your friends really are, and I feel so lucky to have the friends that I do...so many of you that came over and even suggested I start a serious region here. I can't begin to express my gratitude for the support that each and everyone one of you
So here we are, now what? I'm obviously not an expert at founding a region, but I feel that our initial goal should be to get the region ready for us to recruit new nations to it. We're already in the process of doing this, and this is where I feel we are at now.
Regional Theme - We have decided on a Nordic/Feudal theme, and before opening the region to recruitment we need to ensure this theme is fully fleshed out and on display in our region. We also need to express what I hope to be our regional values: the same warm, welcoming, close-knit and light-hearted community that I remember Spiritus once being. Is our theme expressed in our forums? On our WFE and region page? Not being good at being creative, I will be relying heavily on our more creative members on this.
Regional Government - We are also in the process of working on the regional government, which appears set to be a monarchy based on the Nordic theme, with some compromise between arbitrary appointments and elected positions. I believe that elected positions are necessary to present the will of the people, and to allow those that want to take part in government to let themselves be heard. On the other hand, I believe that our region will benefit from a strong, continuous Executive government that will have the tools to solve difficult issues without falling victim to the unfortunate events that led to my departure from Spiritus.
Once we have the government in place, I would like to begin making appointments and get the region moving! I would also like to have elections for any positions that require them, so that when we begin recruiting new nations there will be a functioning government to show them the ropes, and once we have elections again they will be able to participate. Hopefully we can reach this point in the next few weeks. I know it seems like slow-going, but it's more important that we do this right than that we do this fast.
Website/Forums - Also, I would like to ensure that our website and forums are in prime condition to attract and receive new residents. Do we have all the forums we need? Does something look clunky somewhere? Would we benefit from new features or improvements? Does the theme need changed, or does this one just plain suck? I'm more a programmer than a designer, so I will need help in some of these areas. I will be paying close attention to posts made in the technical forum, and working as the administrator to make our community home even better.
Once we start recruiting, the sky's the limit...but we have to get there first. We're making good progress, and I truly appreciate everyone that's played a part in making this happen. Let's get this up and running, and make this the best region ever!
