  • I feel pretty bad about this especially with people talking about, keeping up activity during the summer :P

Anyway, a "holiday" of sorts that I thought was later in the year was sprung on me yesterday and revealed to be starting on Friday  :-\ ... Some friends and family of mine will be heading North through the UK and to the northerly isles, mainly Orkney, we will be driving up, I'll be taking point in my little Ford Fiesta but 3 other vehicles will be coming as well. I had already agreed to it and it will be fun (hopefully), but as I say I didn't expect it to be so soon :P this has as such thrown a spanner in a few of my other smaller plans (including some here).

Anyway the main reason for this post is that as we will be going through the Scottish Highlands and a few nights we will be camping out, I may not have any internet access for a while... Worst case scenario I have no internet at all and am MIA for the next week here :( , although I think I will still be able to access my mobile data for some of the trip and at hotels so I should be able to still come on here to post and see messages and such occasionally...

I thought about posting this in the absence topic... but as it is very likely I'll still be around... and that this is more of a rant at my situation I decided to post it here :P sorry if I am getting in the way.

PS: Also sorry if the suddenness of this interrupts anything anyone else had planned, or anything I had committed myself to  :( hopefully it doesn't effect anything too much...

  • Whenever anyone talks about distant parts of the UK (especially the north, for some reason) I get images of the place as some sort of cloistered, isolationist backwater unaware of modern things like Xboxes and air travel.

  • That's the thing about the summer (and winter) declines...nobody really wants to leave, other things just happen that are outside of their control. It's the bane of any active NS regions. :P

I hope that you have a good time on your trip! :D

  • So generally on dating sites, I have a 100+ character limit set so that nobody can message me unless they type that much or more.

Most people know that characters include punctuation and spaces along with letters, so really every time you push something on the keyboard that moves the blinking cursor, you're increasing your message by one character.

    Example:
"Anakin Skywalker clearly had a very logical reason for joining the dark side, given his backstory."

Is 98 characters exactly.  So even 100 characters would be the equivalent of a single sentence (or more if they're short sentences).

This one guy on POF complained that 100 characters was far too much and he didn't understand why he had to keep writing to even meet that requirement.

Because a full sentence is such a chore to write.

(Btw, this post is a total of 838 characters long)

    This was his message:
    Quote
It wants me to write you a long message..... Ugh super annoying.... Still not long enough... Seriously? Whyyyyyyy???? It wants an entire story?

    And my response:
    Quote
Because it filters out people who send messages that are a single word. Longer messages that are more than just "hi, how're you?" catch my attention and interest much faster.

By the way, 100+ characters is really nothing.

"Hi, my name is Max. I really liked reading your profile. I just thought I'd send a message. How are you?"

That (disincluding the quotes) was 106 characters.

Then they should stick to Adam4Adam and Grindr, since those cater specifically to hooking up.  :P  Whereas POF and OkCupid cater to actual dating.

Lately the horndogs and horntacos have been creeping on there.  Just search for "casual sex" and some people's photos and accounts.....damn.

Ugh, I know.  It's crazy how it's gotten these days.  It's almost better to go back to just going to a gay bar for a date than it is to go to dating sites.  :\

  • There's nothing wrong with casual or even promiscuous sex, so long as it's in the right context. Nothing like a bit of fooling around to deepen a friendship with someone...even getting certain pictures of someone you know is something of an enshrinement of the closeness and the trust that you share. I just don't get the hooking up with strangers thing...don't people worry about STDs and just becoming a target in general?

I never said there was anything wrong with it, but when it's not something you're looking for then it becomes highly annoying when it's almost the new norm on a dating site.

And of course not.  Hell, even HIV positive people are totally cool with saying they want Bareback and will only do it that way, because people are totally cool having unprotected sex with HIV positive people these days.  People are more concerned about getting off than they are about doing it smartly/safely, and some of them even do it to get infected.

    It's all quite ridiculous, really.

  • So my ex sent me a friend request on Facebook yesterday. And being that she broke my heart, lied to me and thought nothing of it, I said to myself "Pfft, you wish." Then deleted her request. If the poor girl had the audacity to think I could even begin to trust her enough to let her get close again (and tried to talk her way through) I would have let her know how awful a person she is and that she doesn't deserve someone as nice as me. :D

I kinda want to tell her that, but she's not a part of my life anymore, that makes me happy and it'd be a waste of my time to go looking for trouble. Plus I don't want to have to put up with my friends messaging & texting me like "What's up with you and Kieara? Why'd you go off on her?" ::)

  • I had a similar situation.  A girl I was talking to the summer of my freshman year of college (that is, after high school graduation and before going off to school) kept dragging her feet, wouldn't let me say we were a couple.  She was nervous about what distance would mean for us.  After a big fight I decided this isn't worth it, so I told her as much.

She starts seeing someone in the AIR FORCE who leaves for basic training the same time I leave for school.  It was just incredible.  She then asks me next year (after not speaking to me for months) if I'm coming to her graduation party.

    Nah.  I'm good.

    Quite. :P

I don't really understand why people use dating sites anyway, especially those that say they can find you your most compatible matches...how do they know what makes someone compatible? It's good to have similarities, but on the other hand opposites attract, right? I dunno, I have some accounts just to see what's around (it's reassuring just to know there's gay/bi people in the area), but the one time I started talking to someone honestly we ended up having cybersex like 45 minutes into it. I actually kinda regret that we didn't talk much more...at least he put in the effort to talk, we just didn't have much in common.

I'm pessimistic about love and dating and all that to begin with though. :P
