  • Oh yes, it was a pint of Butterfinger flavoured ice cream, and it was delicious. :D

    In any case, thanks for the information! How do you time your sleeps...just with an alarm? For naps I usually just fall asleep and wake up whenever I wake up.

    Never been a fan of the candy flavored ice creams. :X

    I usually set my alarm, I try to set it for 90 minutes and give myself about 5-8 minutes to fall asleep.
    Pandora (on my phone at least) has an alarm function that works fairly well. It will start playing music whenever you set it to, and as often as you set it to. A little less obstructive than a traditional alarm.
    The problem with naps is this;
    15-20 minutes = Good Power Nap
    90 minutes = Perfect Cycle Nap
    180 minutes = Maximum Cycle Nap

    Anything over 3 hours for a nap will just throw your Circadian rhythm out of whack.

    Ideally for sleep (depending on your age, health, and genetic factors) you should have 7-8 hours.
    Though there have been studies where people healthily suffice on 4-5 hours of sleep a night (I do this, but not in a health conscious way).
    Oversleeping is actually worse than not getting enough sleep, so studies find.

    Basically to live a long time...don't live the Garfield/depression lifestyle (high carbs, lots of sleep, low activity).

  • I love power naps. Works about a hundred times better than any monster or coffee. More pleasant too.

    They technically should Reon, I mentioned this just to say that some people suffice on 4-5 hours of sleep a night without sleep debt.

  • Recently I've read that people with a certain genetic mutation can get an hour or two less sleep and not have any negative effects.

    Unfortunately I don't think I'm one of them. :P

  • I went to the doctor this morning;

    I am dehydrated and having stomach problems.
    My FNP prescribed me Probiotics and has suggested I try Celexa for anxiety/depression.
    I am a little apprehensive (as you can imagine) about starting a new SSRI. I was on Lexapro and stopped it because it was 'too' expensive and had caused me to gain quite a bit of weight. I am hoping Celexa can help me get on track.
    I want to be back in the gym and naturally promoting my health rather than relying on medications. Hopefully I can do that with this.

    Anyway. Just an update on my life :/

  • That's awesome JW! I know your apprehensive, but maybe this will be the start of something good. :)

    And I hope you get to feeling better soon. :)

  • I'm curious...what do you guys think of the studies that have shown that diet and especially exercise can be as effective as anti-depressants in treating it over the long-term?
