  • I will leave that decision in the hands of the Convention. I'm personally fine with it, although there is a loophole that anyone can propose treaties, which I would like to see closed if the Storting retains treaty approval power.

  • Don't forget wars either, doesn't that still rest with the Storting? (Albeit with absolutely no rules on how the fuck that functions.)

  • But I'd hate to forget that right now three people can do something quickly and it can happen in five days... Albeit the elected officials put in but you know how bad elected officials can get...

  • I'm sure we don't have to worry about the Storting unilaterally declaring war on some poor region, but yes, I suppose that's a loophole too. :P

  • Back when there was that shitty piece where the speaker had soooo much power I thought about becoming speaker just to do it...

  • Ok, then I'm sure we don't have to worry about the Overhusen approving it. :))

  • And why would that be? :)

I mean, we have Joshua Bluteisen, myself and Colberius X in the OH. We could just decide to stick it to the 'fendas and cause some real problems. :P

Of course, I think it should go without saying that the monarch probably wouldn't allow that to happen, but there's nothing in the laws to prevent us from going that route.

  • It also just says "the Storting has that power and they gotta set that shit up for them self" paraphrasing, obviously... But it doesn't specify it has to go through either the underhusen or the overhusen...

All legislation, presuming a declaration of war is "legislation," is introduced in the Underhusen.  So I would assume anywhere the Fundamental Law says "Storting," it means, "Underhusen first."

Assuming makes an ass out of U and Me!
Seriously though if you set up the procedural rules one way it will happen that way, according to the fundamental laws... How dumb is that...

  • I would assume the procedural rules would reflect the powers and limitations spelled out in the Fundamental Law and provide mechanisms for their use, but there's that funny word again...

All of this is starting to remind me of @HannahB's topic, discussing powers of the Storting vs. powers of the Riksrad.  There's actually significant overlap in several areas.  I'm sure the Jarl of Defense would have an opinion on whether a declaration of war was necessary, but there's no provision that he/she even be consulted by the Storting before making such a declaration.  Also, the Storting has full control over citizenship requirements (notwithstanding royal decrees), and depending on those, it may substantially affect Integration's mission and methods.

Should these powers remain with the Storting or whatever it becomes, or should they be integrated into the Riksrad positions that most utilize them?

  • Well if those powers become the Monarchs and therefore his cabinet's they become directly relevant to his Jarls which I think is good...
