Even though you're a Citizen and already can post, you should still feel out the ambassador form for the purpose of keeping records.

    Parliament Keeps Busy

Throughout the 48th Imperial Parliament, both the House of Commons and House of Lords have kept busy with various topics of legislation. The House of Commons tabled the Criminal Law Omnibus, a beast of a proposal and a noble attempt to clean up our Criminal Law procedures in a chunk of proposals, as well as the Incorporated Municipalities Act, a proposal intended to allow for citizens to create their own “groupings” of estates and businesses similar to that of a devolved nation feel with their own legislature, municipality requirements, etc. The House of Commons also passed a few different proposals to the Lords intended to clean up language and provide clarity to various laws within the region. The House of Lords in turn passed these items and they have since become law. The House of Lords also took upon beginning the discussions on the topic of the Law Lords, of which after debate and amendments was sent to the House of Commons. This version of the Law Lords would lead to the Judiciary becoming part of the Appointed Legislative Branch, subject to certain checks and balances to ensure balance and fairness in the court system. The House of Commons unfortunately rejected the proposal by a single vote, enjoying the idea of Law Lords but concerned about the execution as well as noting that other things may need to come first. The Lords are currently debating their original proposal again with intentions to compromise with the concerns laid out by the House of Commons. With an initiative as structurally changing as it would become, one can hope this term’s Parliament can reach a common ground before dissolution approaches.

Government Events and More to Come

Throughout the term, the Government had strove to be more engaging with their allies and friends across other regions. This has resulted in a few different approaches to celebrating regional holidays and the infamous April Fool’s being discord based and inclusive to the non-citizens. The Home Office created an integration system for non-citizen residents of the region to encourage them to become more involved. With this and the recent influx of manual recruitment making strives, the region continues to keep a steady count of 230-250 nations on average with roughly 40+ citizens on average.
Onto more fun topics, the Kingdom of Great Britain will be enjoying events with Wintreath and The East Pacific including Among Us, competitions, and other fun interregional events intended for us to become closer to both of these regions respectively. An Ascot is also rumored to take place soon to bring hype for the upcoming election season. The Prime Minister has indicated he is pleased so far with what his Government has been doing and hopes to see more participation in the end of term festivities to wrap up his stint as the Prime Minister.

    The End of an Era

The World Roleplay taking place in the regional Discord was started in August 2018 and ran until April 2021. Throughout the life of the roleplay, it went through its ups and downs of both activity and administration. This roleplay began the topics of various questions and made numerous regional firsts. The roleplay brought in several citizens who started as simply visitors to our discord server, created fun dramas and popcorn moments, numerous memes, and so much more. It also brought forth the discussion on who should be “regulating” what roleplays get created within the region, it has gone through iterations of direct Government Control, Indirect Government Control, committees, etc. Ultimately, the best way for our region to “regulate” without too much bureaucracy has been to revert it to a committee of citizens chosen by the Prime Minister who approve roleplay creation requests, so that they may be advertised in the region, and allowing citizens who create these roleplays to run them how they see fit.

The World Roleplay had roughly 25 different nations in total involved within this world with some citizens rebranding, others creating a new nation after returning from a break, and the administrators of the rp creating NPC states to interact with the players.
Xavier Lee-Ross has been a pivotal member of this Roleplay by creating and improving upon the regional map since the beginning.
Artimedias Westfalen-Kensington has also been a pivotal member of this Roleplay for constantly advocating for leadership to be better at allowing the runnings of the roleplay more autonomy, implementing various “updates” such as improved war systems, improved resource systems, etc. and of course creating a bot which used a dice system and allowed for results to be determined for players who are battling to prevent infighting of what is and is not fair.
This roleplay has done a lot and each player who contributed put in their good work. While we are sad to see this chapter close, we are glad to have had it last as long as it did. It is currently the longest ran roleplay within the Kingdom of Great Britain, ever.

    Unrest in Gibraltar
(SPOILER: This is purely a roleplay article, this is not a reflection of the current state of the region.)

Following the passage of the “Spanish Lands Act” in the Assembly of Gibraltar, rumors of unrest within the now Kingdom of Spain have not gone unnoticed. Gibraltar continues its efforts to peacefully and forcefully bring Spain under its umbrella of protection within the Kingdom. The Prince of Wales, Captain General, and Prime Minister met at Waddesdon Manor for friendly discussions, as they are also known as the Trio of Trouble. This Trio however has also been known for allegedly being behind the unrest which took place in France not too long ago. The Media speculated that their meeting took place to discuss the upcoming war with Spain, which has not been disclosed and the BBC intends to remain vigilant in indicating that is it “just a rumor”, however with the lack of presence of the Prince of Wales at various Royal Meetings over the last few weeks, perhaps a war is imminent, and perhaps it is a war that not even His Majesty the King can prevent. Do we smell a coup?

That does it for this month’s update! Thank you for reading!

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

    Change in Government:

His Majesty, King Charles III, opted to dissolve Parliament to avoid an unfortunate deadlock between the Legislature and Executive Government, on August 20, 2021. In doing so, an election was declared in which nine (9) candidates put themselves forth for consideration by the public. After a televised debate on the BBC and strong campaigning by all parties, the dust settled and when it did, Madeline Norfolk, Xavier J.V. Lee-Ross, Rhea Amsberg, Theodore Bedford, and Klaus Mikaelson were elected to the Commons. His Majesty then called William, the Prince of Wales, John Lancaster-Stuart, Duke of Norfolk, Owen Bonaparte, Duke of Westmoreland, Arnold Lancaster, Duke of Clarence and Aquitaine, Crushita Telcontar, Marquess of Montreal, and Arthur Lancaster, Earl of Grey, to serve the Crown in the esteemed House of Lords.

As the 51st Session of Parliament opened, Xavier J.V. Lee-Ross was elected Speaker of the Commons by a 3-2 margin. Madeline Norfolk remained at that time the only candidate for the Premiership, boosting her chances of becoming our next Prime Minister. As the Session continued on, she laid out her nominees for Cabinet offices, including Klaus Mikaelson as Deputy Prime Minister, Elisha Lancaster-Stuart as Foreign Secretary, Arthur Norfolk-Westfalen as Culture Secretary, Jinwoy as World Assembly Secretary, and a vacant (for the moment) Immigration Secretary position. The BBC will remain under the leadership of L. James Shinkle.

At the time of the publication of this report, anything pertaining to inter-regional relations can be directed to the office of the Foreign Secretary, Elisha Lancaster-Stuart.
Opening statements have been issued by most governmental offices. Quotes include:

From 10 Downing Street: “As one of the many candidates for the House of Commons, I strove to keep my campaign straight and to the point to where I find the most issues within our legislation that has contributed to the overall regional activity drought.
As one of the few candidates left standing for the position of Prime Minister, I strove to continue to focus not on fixing everything at once so that we are back and above where we were in the past, but instead to get us on a path that would allow future candidates for the Premiership variety in their campaign promises.”- Prime Minister Madeline Norfolk

From the Culture Office- “…we will start with the citizen of the month competition, after that things such as games, mysteries, fights to the death could occur at any time. Parties, movies, music, wild bonfires at secret locations. Entertainment functions aside, I will be aiming to bring changes to the role play offices, a reduction of topics clutter, one official RP creation application, one topic of requirements and rules for RPing.” – Culture Secretary Arthur Norfolk-Westfalen

From the Foreign Office: “This term, what I hope to accomplish is an overhaul of the Foreign Office. The FO will be releasing monthly updates to our embassies and consulates, as well as meeting with heads of state and foreign policy officers of other regions to ensure the continuity of our foreign relations. The Foreign Office will also be preparing to host two state visits, including for the signing of a treaty. We look forward to a new era of peace and energy within our foreign relations.” Foreign Secretary Elisha Lancaster-Stuart

His Majesty the King has returned from his leave and has resumed his royal duties, starting with dissolving Parliament on October 31st. The new Parliament has been elected and is in the process of choosing a Speaker of the Commons and a Prime Minister.
We have a new Culture Secretary, Alec Norfolk-Stuart. He will soon be launching The Hunger Games within KoGB. May the odds be ever in your favour!

To celebrate Halloween, KoGB engaged in spooky themed movies, games, and quizzes… Frights and fears abounded!
Want to set up a game night? Contact the Foreign Office or the Prime Minister, and we would be happy to help facilitate that!
The region is now hosting a weekly movie night! Stop by to see the schedule and come have fun with KoGB!
The World Assembly Delegate highlighted in a recent Op-Ed posted by the BBC the trials and celebrations of his newfound role. Alistair Brandon is a decorated citizen of the Kingdom of Great Britain, having served in both Commons and Lords as well as two terms as Prime Minister, settling into the Delegacy of Great Britain has been a great opportunity for him to practice his Foreign Affairs skills. When asked on how the Delegacy was fairing, he had this to say:
“The Delegacy is living in stride. We have a decent number of endorsements given our WA population. There is not much to add as far as performance metrics, but around 7-9 WA nations can be seen voting on resolutions at peak, showing proof of considerable interest in WA affairs. With a new term coming I am eager to see how the WA will develop as we continue toward enshrining its role into our regional lifestyle.”

Parliamentary Progress and Election Season Again!
Two joint sessions were held between the House of Commons and the House of Lords in order to discuss the updating of treaties and constitutional amendments to reflect the current status of the regional military. Members from both Houses of Parliament agreed that these changes were necessary in order to keep regional laws updated and to ensure that allies are aware of the current status of the military. Both joint sessions were considered to be very successful, and the Government expressed their thanks to all those involved.
The House of Commons ended the recent term in a similar manner to which they started, with the discussion of a flurry of bills. As the term wrapped up, MP’s debated codifying the act of misrepresentation into law, updating the process by which judicial appointments are made and simplifying the process by which Speakers of the House and Prime Ministers are elected.
Following the closure of the term and the declaration of an election, the region saw one of the highest turnouts in a General Election in recent memory. Candidates in general promised continued activity and a desire to amend or repeal out-of-date laws, a trend that was not overly popular in the previous term. Candidates also largely pledged to seek guidance from the civilian population in the legislative writing process, wanting to include non-MP’s in the process to “hear what they want to see passed into law” as one candidate stated. Other MP’s gave no solid plans for the term if elected, but instead promised to be open to compromise and continually active throughout the upcoming term.

With the recent dissolution of one of the three political parties in the region, Prime Minister Madeline Norfolk, formerly of The Alliance political party, became the only Independent elected to the House. She is joined by two MP’s from Sinn Fein and two MP’s from the British Royalist Party. Madeline is expected to be returned to another term as Prime Minister. The process for the Prime Minister began on November 4th.

We thank you for reading this update and encourage you to check out what else we may have going on!

    October Update Addendum
    22.11.2021

    Good evening,

This notice is to signal a couple of important changes within His Majesty’s Government that, while not occurring within October to be included in the update for that month nevertheless require immediate notice.

Due to an issue within Parliament - an issue which will be elaborated on next week during the November update - we have had a change in executive leadership. Madeline Norfolk is no longer the Prime Minister, and Klaus Mikaelson is no longer the Deputy Prime Minister. Those positions are now held by the Rt. Honourable L. James Shinkle and the Hon. John Laurens-Wessex, respectively.

I want to issue my most heartfelt apology for the delay in issuing the October update as well as any confusion this situation has caused. Next week, I assure our friends abroad, you will know exactly what we have been dealing with since November 1st.

    In service and fidelity,

    The Honourable Elisha Lancaster-Stuart

Secretary of State for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office

  • Thanks for the updates...I was in the process of moving and wasn't able to reply until just now. :P

I have to admit, I'm very curious to know what went on that led to the changes in government. It sounds like it was something that was abrupt and unexpected to be such a major change that required an addendum.

    Foreign Update || January 2022

Greetings and welcome to the Kingdom of Great Britain New Years Foreign Update!

We hope that you, your family, and friends, have been remaining safe and healthy throughout 2021 and hope that the same goes for 2022!

For any questions or concerns, please reach out to Prime Minister Arthur Lancaster or Deputy Prime Minister Alec Norfolk-Stuart.

    Now onto the update!

The 52nd Imperial Parliament at Work…

The Houses of Parliament have been working over this term, mainly over the fate of the Citizens’ Assembly, an entity which has gone through more iterations than this region has gone through Kings! Just a few months ago, the citizenry were asked via referendum whether they wanted to have the current iteration, the Gibraltarian Assembly, repealed in entirety or replaced with a similar previous iteration, the Citizens’ Assembly. With a 1 vote difference, the decision was made for Parliament to put in the work to replace Gibraltar with the previous iteration.
To date, the Citizens’ Assembly is slated to be enacted by the end of the term, just in time for the next General Election, which were called around the 14th of January. This was the first election of 2022, an exciting time to be involved in the Kingdom!

Other Legislative “wins” within the Kingdom have been the full repeal of our military, His Majesty's Royal Corps of Marines, with intentions to review the current treaties and discuss necessary adjustments. That’s correct, the Kingdom of Great Britain has decided to hang the hat of R/D Gameplay for the time being. This initiative was started in the previous term when former Prime Minister and Captain General of His Majesty's Royal Corps of Marines, Madeline Norfolk, called for a joint session to begin the proceedings of repealing an entity that the regional community simply did not have interest for.

The Parliament also successfully updated the Electoral Organic Act to properly cover when by-elections should be held.
The British Royalist Party has maintained their majority throughout the term and recently used it to quickly get the amendment to the Electoral Organic Act passed through for assent. In the upcoming election, it should be no surprise the British Royalist Party will once again obtain the majority.

    The Shinkle Premiership Thus Far…

The Shinkle Premiership has been one for the books as Prime Minister L. James Shinkle assumed the position under unprecedented means.
Following the conclusion of the General Election for the 52nd Imperial Parliament, Members of the House of Commons sent Madeline Norfolk forward as the only candidate to have ran, receiving unanimous support. Prime Minister Norfolk was unfortunately denied by the House of Lords and sent back to the House of Commons where the House needed to send another candidate.

The House of Commons instead chose to resign in protest, stating that they believed Madeline Norfolk to be the best equipped amongst them. Following a few days and some discussions, Prime Minister Norfolk met with the members of their newly formed Coalition coined the “gunpowder coalition” where it was concluded that Miss Norfolk will not be running, anywhere, and that James Shinkle, John Laurens-Wessex, and Elisha Lancaster will each run on their own platforms, where the preferred candidate will be sent to the Lords following the conclusion of 5 separate Member of Parliament by-elections.

Elisha Lancaster assumed the position of Speaker, while James Shinkle assumed the position of Prime Minister Candidate. Following a swift questioning in the House of Lords, Prime Minister Shinkle began his term.

Before we get any further, let's list out who was in what position!

    Prime Minister: L. James Shinkle

    Deputy Prime Minister: John Laurens-Wessex

    Foreign Secretary: Madeline Norfolk

    Culture Secretary: Alec Norfolk-Stuart

    Immigration Secretary: James Forsyte-Wellesley

The Culture Office has been the main success point in this Premiership with Culture Secretary Veteran Alec Norfolk-Stuart going above and beyond to provide the citizenry for creative outlets during the December Holiday season.

The Midterm Polls also reflected this, citing great appreciation for the work done by the Culture Office and continuing to ask for more and suggest further improvements.
Prime Minister Shinkle in his first term has worked hard and worked well with the options before him. Though due to the circumstances of his becoming Prime Minister, Shinkle decided not to run for re-election in the Commons for Session 53, nor seek a second term as Prime Minister.

Thank you for reading this update! We intend to have another one sent shortly after the conclusion of the General Election and the State Opening of the 53rd Session of Parliament!

  • April 2023 Foreign Update
Following the tragic loss of real-life British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, the community of the Kingdom of Great Britain was hit hard by grief. Her Majesty's long reign, nearly unparalleled, truly represented an era of history in the modern world. Though we may not all physically reside in the United Kingdom, we shared in the British people's deep sense of mourning following her death. This has had the unfortunate side effect of dwindling interest in our region.

His Royal Britannic Majesty, King William V, has allowed the formation of an emergency government, led by Prime Minister James Kennedy, to address the region's serious difficulties with inactivity. Prime Minister Kennedy has appointed several citizens to the Cabinet to join him in tackling these problems, including Emeritus Rex, Charles Lancaster as Home Secretary and Deputy Prime Minister, Alec Norfolk-Stuart as Culture Secretary, and Her Serene Highness, Queen Dowager Isabella I, as Foreign Secretary. The new Prime Minister is ambitious, with many ideas to revitalize the region, and there is a renewed atmosphere of hope in the Kingdom.

Thank you for reading this short update. We hope to bring you more in the coming weeks and months; however, we wanted to let you know as soon as possible that we are still around and doing our best to once again be one of the best British-themed regions in NationStates!

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Foreign Office.

  • Thanks for the update!

I had a chance to chat with your Prime Minister when he visited Wintreath a week or so ago...he seems excited to get KoGB back on track, and I wish him and the region in general best of luck in doing so. If there's anything we can do to help, just let us know. :)
