On the last update a week ago, I had just started working on the outside of the house. What a difference a week makes...
The most notable difference is that I completely leveled the mountain in front of the house, as I mentioned last week. That in itself took a few days straight of work, but it netted me a lot of cobblestone, some dirt, and a bit of coal out of it. I also greatly expanded the farm...on both sides of the road are 25x25 farm plots growing wheat, arranged in what I read was the most efficient manner. Below that I have some pumpkin growing, and after I took those pictures I also planted some carrot and potato that I traded Chanku for today. I'm thinking of using that area just for wheat and moving everything else to some other area, though, cause the wheat looks really nice when you walk up the road between the plots or look down at it from the porch of the house.
Also, the patches are lighted in such a way that baddies won't spawn in them. In fact, they won't spawn anywhere near my house, which is why I have removed the fence from the far side of the area. It's nice watching the fields at night, too.
Oh yeah, and I also leveled the little overhang off in the distance and started building a small cabin in its place. The overhang was interesting, but it allowed baddies to remain after the sun rose and it just wasn't in line with what I wanted to do here. The cabin has a stunning view of a valley and forest from the back, but I didn't think to snap an image for it this time. I'm not sure what to do with it...maybe I'll furnish it for visitors or let someone live in it eventually.
This is from the balcony of my main house, which show the fields and landscaping in greater detail. I've used lightposts and leaves off of oak trees to make it look fenced-in and kinda eloquent, and I'm happy with it. The water in the center needs some work, but right now I'm only using it for easy access to water for the fields. The main road leads straight out, and actually runs off a cliff, over a river, and to the top of a tower that that takes you to ground level on the other side, which is lower than the ground on this side. The gravel on the upper-left hand side was a tower prototype, but I decided there wasn't enough space to make it look good and I'll be removing that.
And that image illustrates what I mean with the tower. Essentially you go down the tower and come out in front, where the road kinda ends for now. I imagine this area will be more like an actual town eventually than the main farm area. The wooden building on the center-right will be a small lighthouse for boat travel on the river. I also want to place a trade bazaar here...basically a covered open area with chests that will have excess stuff that I want to trade. Maybe an inn with beds to accommodate traders too...
And finally the tower from the other side. It looks a little drab, but since I just did this today there's always plenty of time to add style and flair to it. I'm happy with the basic structure. I made it to vaguely resemble an Alliance tower from World of Warcraft, with the outside wall surrounding the actual tower. Those towers are usually slightly elevated, but to do that here I would have had to either raise several levels of dirt below the tower and thus make the tower look short, or dig out several layers of dirt in the entire area, which I didn't want to do. It's fine as is.
And then there's the road...running from my porch, it currently stops at the tower entrance. Not sure what I will do with it from there.
Some other accomplishments this week...I made a visit to Chanku's house, where he showed me around the area and we traded some stuff. I also found a flower forest, the results of which made Reon green with envy, hehe.
Overall, it was very fun, especially this weekend when there were other people on. I'm glad to see the Minecraft server starting to become more active.
