Opportunities in the Wintrean Civil Service
A civil service is part of the foundation of a NationStates community: on one hand, it does the low-level work that’s important to bringing people to a community and making them want to stay. On the other hand, it’s also a foundation for someone’s civic career, where people can get in on the ground floor, learn about the community and the issues it faces, and gain experience in how things are done that will help them as they take on larger roles.
Historically, Wintreath has not had an active civil service, which inflamed many problems. We weren’t able to do that important work, and what was done was taken on by the Cabinet itself, which contributed to frustration and burnout that led good people to resign. And since there wasn’t a foundation for people to learn and grow from, we struggled to find people who could take on Cabinet roles, especially as the people who once held them became busier offline and could no longer commit to them.
That’s why one of the most exciting aspects of our revival is that we have two active branches of the civil service: the Hearthkeepers and the Winbassadors. Today I wanted to talk about what both groups do in the hopes that more of our Citizens will want to take part. To join our civil service, you should be a Citizen and be on our Discord, as both groups have a dedicated channel on there. If this is you and you’d like to get involved with growing our community, read on!
Hearthkeeper
Hearthkeepers keep the community warm, lively, and active. They welcome new people to our community, post daily icebreaker questions on our NationStates RMB and off-site forums, and run a weekly bonfire event (games and contests based on posts) on the RMB. Because the work is spread out among everyone in the group, no one person gets too much of it, and the discussions and activities they create have a real positive impact on Wintreath.

Winbassador
Winbassadors are the face of Wintreath to other communities. They join the forums and Discord of the community they’re assigned to, keep track of what’s going on there, post our dispatches, and contribute to our official foreign affairs dispatch, the Auora Borealis. Winbassadors are only assigned to one region and new Winbassadors usually pick which region they would like to go to from the list of open assignments, so it’s not an overwhelming job, but an important one nonetheless.

And there will be more as we roll out more branches of the Civil Service in the coming weeks and months. However, I hope that one of those roles got your attention, especially if you would like to begin a civic career in Wintreath and make your mark on our community, and as always stay frosty.

We have a new Citizen this week! Hooray!
- Welcome to Taigaduulal! They’ve played NationStates a few times in the past, but is looking for a region to stick with this time. They like everything from Minecraft and Destiny 2, to college football, tech, and family. They’re also great at filling out a Citizenship app, which is why I can share so many things about them!
If you would like to become a Citizen of Wintreath, all you have to do is join our
off-site forum and then
fill out this form. Citizens gain full rights under our regional constitution, gain access to Citizen-only areas of the forums and Discord, and can participate in our government from our all-Citizen assembly to the Cabinet that runs the day-to-do operations of Wintreath.

April Avatar of the Month Nominations Open!This is a fun monthly contest where everyone is encouraged to change their forum avatar, Discord pfp, and NationStates flag to reflect the chosen theme for the month. Nominations will be open until April 3rd, and then nominations will be voted on for a few days to choose the winner. If you have a theme idea, be sure to post it in the topic before nominations close!
