A Word from the Monarch
The Heart of a PeopleThe Frosty Bugle is about what’s happening in Wintreath, but sometimes this takes the form of events outside that have captivated our community.
When Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine, I thought with dismay that it would be a short and easy conquest. Here is a country forced to defend itself against a much more powerful enemy almost entirely by themselves. But Ukraine has surprised everyone, including their adversary, but holding strong and continuing to put up a fight. Through their incredible resistance, they’re forcing their enemy to pay dearly for every inch gained. This speaks to the heart of their people.
It’s about the
troops who told off a Russian demand to surrender, knowing that it would lead to their deaths. It’s about the soldier who
blew himself up to destroy a bridge and delay the Russian advance. It’s about the country’s president, who
refused a US offer to evacuate the country, pledging to fight in the streets instead. It’s about the couple who
got married when the invasion started and then
took up arms to defend their country. And it's also about the brave Russians who have
openly protested the invasion, knowing that they face jail or worse for doing so. These and countless other heroic acts, both large and small, speak to the heart and spirit of their people.
By all means, Ukraine is not a perfect country. It has struggled with factionalism, corruption, and internal strife. It has suffered foreign interference, an annexation, and attempts at diplomatic isolation. It's traditional values would be at odds with many of ours, particularly when it comes to LGBTQ+ rights. But in spite of everything that could tear a people apart, the Ukrainian people are standing strong, thanks to their heart and spirit. As Napoleon (ironically, a conqueror) once said, in the long run the sword will always be conquered by the spirit. Even in this day and age, with more advanced swords than ever, it’s still the spirit that carries the day.
Let us be inspired by their bravery and heroism, and reflect on our own heart and spirit when it comes to the causes we care about. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers, and hope that their spirit remains unbeatable.

Nominations for Spring Thane Elections Open!Nominations opened on February 23rd, and will stay open until elections begin in March 1st. So far many incumbents from the Winter session are running for reelection: Stigya2113 (

The Greenlandic North) for Thane of Embassies, and Michi (

Named “A New Adventure in Old London” and hosted by Neon Abigail, this game promises plenty of chaos and unique roles, but also a post limit to make sure that people can keep up on it all. Werewolf is very similar to games like Among Us and Town of Salem, just through text on our forums, so if you like these sorts of games why not give it a try? Signups are open until March 14th or 18 players have signed up!

#frostbyte-cafe opened on February 17th for discussion about “comics, tabletop games, anime, books, movies/shows, and other geeky exploits”. #the-nerdatorium was also renamed “the-fount-of-knowledge” for discussion about math, science, history, and other academic areas. Nominations for Wintreath's Finest Open!Are you a Citizen and know another Citizen that stood out in a positive way this month? Wintreath’s Finest is a monthly recognition to honour just such a person! Nominations are open right now, then on March 1st we will vote on who should get the reward! That person wins 2 krone (our regional currency) and a custom role/title on the forums and Discord for the month. Nominate someone today!
March Avatar of the Month Announced!Jarl of Culture Michi (
Penguin Dictators) announced that the Avatar of the Month for March would be the Ukrainian flag, in solidarity and support of the Ukrainian people. Everyone is encouraged to update their NationStates flags, Discord pfps, and forum avatars to include the flag, but as always participation is optional.
