  • Walmart announced their own brand of lower-priced insulin. The article notes that the price of insulin more than doubled from 2012 to 2016, and that Walmart estimates the average consumer will save over $100 per vial of insulin. But this is just part of a larger strategy by America's larger employer and grocer to bring "everyday low prices" to the healthcare industry. The company has opened 20 clinics with low prices for things such as annual checkups or dental cleanings and has launched a prescription drug program that sells monthly supplies of many generic drugs for $4.

Obviously Walmart believes there's profit to be made in introducing lower-priced alternatives and undercutting the competition in the healthcare industry. My question is, do you believe something like this can serve as a capitalist solution to America's healthcare cost problem?
