I just found this interesting more than anything...it's a map that shows which state most of each state's not-native population came from. In some ways it dovetails nicely with predictions of which states will lose seats in the House of Representatives this decade...New York, California, and to a lesser extent Illinois are all massive exporters of people, and all are in danger of losing seats. Texas is a big regional exporter as well, but is apparently getting enough people from other states to offset the people they lose to surrounding states.

Here is a relevant and also interesting map from the same thread.  I have sometimes wondered myself where some of these California residents are going when they leave.  I know quite a few who went to Utah and Idaho though that would probably have more to do with my religious affiliation (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) than anything else.  With the statistics on this map being from 2017, I wonder how much of those electoral college/redistricting representation/etc. changes caused by the population shifts will be from this California exodus.

I see not many people from California end up in West Virginia. I can't imagine why.
