  • Agreed.  Not to mention, a crossbow can penetrate most armor, and the bolts can have poison put on the tip.  Firearms of this time period, and even now, cannot have poisoned ammo.
Well, not legally (internationally speaking, because of the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons) or cost-effectively against infantry, but DU particulate matter originating from American APFSDS tank shells are certainly poisonous.
For those criticizing poisoning bolts - I'll note that one of the most cost-effective ways they had to do that was to just stick the arrowheads in shit.
Such law didn't come into effect until more recently. It was still perfectly acceptable to poison arrowheads and crossbow bolts back in the Renaissance. And yes, sticking the arrow in literal feces was very effective and cost nothing to do.
And I'm not entirely sure how a single individual can control a weapons empire at this time though, considering that things like weapons technology were generally pretty darn nationalised until even recently (ie WWI and such).  Royal armouries generally controlled weapons flows, and there wasn't really much of a "production line" or any similar concept, so every weaponsmith had to be insanely skilled, primary innovations related to arms/firepower occurred in these centres, etc.  Now there was trade, but generally the idea of an inventor also doing a business is a much more modern (read: industrial) notion.  States were way more into keeping new developments that were extremely powerful as state secrets/in their own hands.  Even Glass was like solely a Venetian thing for a long time...
I see where you're going to with this, but for the sake of interesting plots, I plead the BS flag to not be raised. Also, at no point did I advocate the selling of guns to standard people. That's specifically for armed forces and possibly wealthy merchants as well.
Do also remember that a person skilled with a bow or sword will be able to wield it far more deadlier than guns in this tech era. Guns were unwieldy, slow, loud, released smoke, and prone to failure. Their main advantages at first were the shock power (people/horses were untrained to deal with guns), the fact that you could arm many people quickly with them without taking years of training, and the fact that they worked very well in formation.
I'm well aware of this. That's why in the early days of guns soldiers were often equipped with both musket and sword.

I already explained that muskets would be blocked by armor. They're not the "be all, end all" weapons.
    I never said they were.

  • The reason, and by extention type, of weapons Cin will likely be selling are untaxed (but higher priced), modified, and all around concealed weapons. As well as poisons, some form of illicit substance, and probably just general smuggled goods. I think the most advanced thing he'd sell would be a sort of flintlock pocket pistol or early early derringer, great for super concealed, but high cross-table killin.

  • Name: Eldarion II Telcontar, King of Ainur
    Age: 23
    Gender: Male
Bio: His Majesty, Eldarion II, King of Ainur, is a mess of a man. Born to Prince Aioros, the eldest son of Eldarion I, his birth was celebrated. Since then many have cursed his birth as have celebrated it. A genius commander, a formidable warrior, a sage administrator, who has no real interest in doing any of those things despite his skill in them, preferring to take up whatever fashion has riveted the court that week, designing all matter of expensive clothing, and wearing most of it himself, regardless of who it was meant for. Between his barely hidden homosexuality and his habit of wearing dresses to court balls, he created enough scandal that when he turned 19 he was shipped off by his Grandfather to govern Kort, the wealthy trading city that Ainur owned in Wintreath, ceded in a long forgotten war that led to the unending peace between the two realms. Showing surprising finesse in governing the place, dealing with shrewd merchants and vainglorious nobles alike. It was also here that he met his love, Galdir. His tenure was cut short by the death of his Father under suspicious circumstances, followed by the death of his Grandfather under less suspicious circumstances, being thrown from a horse.

It was at this point that his Uncle, Taethon, launched his coup. He was the only Telcontar in the capital, and Eldarion is convinced that he had his father killed. It was a mess though, it would seem nobody anticipated old Eldarion to die when he did and the realm was quickly thrown into civil war, with nobles rushing to either side or claiming their neutrality. Eldarion initally lead his armies personally, leading to two great victories over Taethon's forces, but then left the army to Galdir, who was competent but not great, and a year long stalemate ensued. Eldarion used to the prestige he gained from his victories to marry Bachorien Heriril, daughter of Pedlar, Duke Palatine of the Four Farthings, and scion of a powerful family. Even his support was not enough though, and slowly but surely his forces are being driven back towards the coast and away from the capital. Eldarion is sure they will win the war eventually, but most of his subordinates have doubts. The future is bleak for Eldarion, but fate may still have a role to play...

Name: Galdir Osgaror, Lord Commander, Count of Calembel
    Age: 25
    Gender: Male
Bio: Born to a minor noble family in the Ainurian exclave of Kort, Galdir Osgaror never seemed to be meant for great things, and yet time and again he has proven those who doubted him wrong. Enlisting in Kort's Guard at a young age, he quickly caught the eye of the childless governor, who saw his talent and gave him an education his parents could have never afforded. Well educated in the ways of war, he was made the head of Kort's Guard when his favourite mentor died, despite his young age. It was in this position that he met his future love Eldarion, who was suddenly the new governor of the city and his new boss. While in Ainur homosexuality is abhorred, Wintrean's don't care in the slightest and this carried over to the city of Kort, so it was without much controversy that Galdir quite openly courted the future heir to the Ainurian throne, for the rumours about him unsurprisingly reached their ears. Whatever he did, it worked and Galdir has since rose meteorically.

When Eldarion's Father died Galdir unsurprisingly came with him as the head of his guard, and when the civil war began he worked well as Eldarion's second in leading his armies. Unfortunately he hasn't been quite so successful as Eldarion leading them himself, and has led the army to many successes personally but has failed in the greater scheme of things, he can't be everywhere at once after all. The situation for the army looks dire and Eldarion would have been forced to replace him if he hadn't had won so many fights personally. At court things aren't much better for him as he battles with Eldarion's wife Bachorien over the future of the Kingdom. Few things have stopped Galdir before though, and surely his love will side with him, right?

Name: Queen Bachorien Heriril, Mistress of the Second Chamber, Princess Palatine
    Age: 22
    Gender: Female
Bio: Beautiful. Ravishing. Vain. None of these things describe Bachorien Heriril, the ingenious wife of Eldarion. The only child of her father Pedlar, Bachorien was given an education meant for a ruler rather than a woman, a scandal at the time, as a woman had never inherited the Four Farthings before. She was lucky, for the life of most women would have never suited her. Independent minded, plain, and with a fiery tongue, she sent most suitors running for the hills despite her status as heir to one of the most powerful peerages in the realm. She was not pleased when her father forced her to marry Eldarion.

Their wedding was as much as one could expect in the middle of a war, and though he was quite handsome, he also ran, quite literally screaming, from their marital bed the night of their marriage. Despite this though, she ended up getting along well with her husband, who seemed to be one of the few men in the Ainur capable of treating her as an equal. Though they've never laid together, they quickly came to respect each other, though Bachorien wishes her husband would apply himself when needed. He made her the Mistress of the Second Chamber, essentially his spymaster and she has performed well in this role, thwarting many an assassination attempt and building connections around Ainur that she has used well. She has competition however. Her husbands lover Galdir runs the military's spy network, and the two unsurprisingly do not get along. Increasingly her spies have been disappearing and she suspects Galdir is to blame. She has no proof however, and the conflict between them is threatening to boil over, gripping the entire court while the King puts his fingers in his ears and ignores it.

  • I just got a new idea for my character. The city that House Valeria holds domain over was founded and grown after the Valeria family gained recognition by the Crown, right?

  • Not quite. It was a town that originally belonged to another noble family, but when the last member died without an heir, it was just kinda bestowed upon me.
