  • They made it fairly clear that the show and books would diverge for the most part after season 4. You simply can't fit that many characters and plots into the series.

I'm sorry, I respect GRRM and all, but he wrote himself into a massive fucking corner and just can't get out of it, that's why he's taking so long. First it was supposed to be 3 books, then 5, then 6, and now 7. I heard rumours that even 8 are being considered.

Could the show have handled the adaptation better? For sure, and they royally fucked up the plot with Dorne, the Sandsnakes and the entire season 7, but let's not pretend everything GRRM did is golden.

And true, Dany is a lot more talented in the books, but even there, you can see her madness come through sometimes. This has been a long time coming.

Also, they didn't show any magic, as yet, from Euron, but his speech when they introduced him convinced me that he must have it. (I am 99% sure that is what they were intending, at first, anyway, and have since abandoned the idea. I'm still going to have it as head canon, though.) EDIT: I'm including the scene here.

Victarion doesn't exist in the show. Euron behaves more like him in the show.

Yeah, I don't know why the fuck they didn't bring Lady Stoneheart into the show. Although to be honest, book 4 was so goddamned dull, I didn't even care that she was there. I feel like they've given Brienne a suitable replacement arc, though. Jaime has been in limbo for too long, however.

Yeah, true, Cersei was an absolute monster from the get-go in the books. I liked her more sympathetic portrayal in the show, though.

I'll respond to the rest of your rambling when I'm in the mood to read it again. :D

  • Yup, the pace fucked things up royally this episode. Like, obviously they've been building up to Dany's decision to burn everyone anyway, regardless of whether they surrender, for years and years, but there should definitely have been a few more episodes to build up to it. The hints she gave were clear, like saying Jon betrayed her, ominously proclaiming "then let it be fear" after Jon didn't bang her, and burning Varys alive and threatening to do the same to Tyrion if he failed again (despite just turning against his dearest friend and ally for her). It just still felt goddamned jarring when she decided to burn them all anyway.

The fight between Euron and Jaime was the most brain-dead thing I've ever witnessed.

EDIT: Also, I'm going to rant now. It's not going to be pretty.

  • Oh my god.

I mean, I'm sure we all knew this was going to be awful, but that turned out to be an understatement.

    Prepare for another rant.

To be generous, there is going to be one thing I praise. But even that thing is going to form part of my rant.

  • Quite the opposite. Looking back, the Sandsnakes were gentle foreplay before we we all got fucked.
