Section I: Basic Information
1) What is the name of your Wintreath nation?

2) Do you have nations in any other regions? If so, where? Also, do you serve in any official roles in any of them? If so, what are they?
Nope, I’m new.

3) Are you new to NationStates?
Yeah, just started a few days ago.

4) Would you like a mentor to help you learn your way around Wintreath?
I’ve been looking around quite a bit, so I think I’ve got the gist of it already.

5) What timezone are you in?
US Eastern

6) How did you find out about Wintreath? If you received a telegram, please include the nation that sent it so they can receive credit!
Telegram from Wintermoot. Also, I was thinking about joining Cynosure, which was created by Wuufu, and I saw he suggested Wintreath since Cynosure is still kind of in development. You can credit him with my recruitment if you want, Wintermoot.

Section II: Interests
There are many things that you can get involved with here in Wintreath, both to help the region and just for fun! Based on your answers to the questions below, we will help you get involved in any aspect of the region that you're interested in so you can hit the ground running fast. Indicating interest here does not commit you to joining any aspect of the region, but will help us guide you to where you want to be here.

1) Are you interested in being part of our regional military?
I’m still not really sure how the R/D aspect of the game works, so maybe?

2) Are you interested in forum roleplays (character, national, etc)?
I’ve never done any kind of roleplay before, but I’m open to it.

3) Are you interested in playing in our Minecraft server?
I would if I owned Minecraft. The game seems interesting to me, but I never got around to buying it and I still have other videogames to play.

4) Are you interested in general region-wide games, such as Civilization V? If so, what games would you like to see?
CIV V YES. I’ve put hundreds of hours into that game, but I’ve never played multiplayer, so I’d definitely be interested. The only problem is that the weekends are usually when I have to be available to do things with my wife, and I read that’s when you guys usually play. So it’d be a coin-toss if I could.

I also have Rome: Total War, but I don’t know if that’s multiplayer, and I used to play Star Wars: the Old Republic, but I hit a wall when it got too hard to play solo (that’s not a pun).

5) Are you interested in regional politics (elections, running for legislature, writing bills, etc.)?
I’ve read that the Underhusen is pretty much Hell, so I’ll stay away from that. And I don’t really understand the point of legislation yet, so I’m not sure.

6) Are you interested in general community discussions?
Definitely. It’s one of the main reasons I’m joining.

7) Are you interested in serving as a diplomat or an ambassador to another region?
Yeah, maybe, if I knew what that entailed and what the point of it is.

8.) Are you interested in regional journalism (writing articles for inclusion in regional publications)?
Yeah, maybe, if I knew what that entailed and what the point of it is. I believe I’m quite good at writing, though I’ve never done anything with journalism before.

9) Are you interested in creating graphics for the regional website?
Yeah, maybe, if I knew what, etc. I have a very basic understanding of GIMP (a sort of poor man’s Photoshop) and I do not have a very artistic mind, but I can try to help if needed.

10) If you have any other interests you'd like to pursue in the region, please tell us about them! We can make just about anything happen as long as people are interested in doing it.

Section II: Introductions and Questions

Hello, fellow Wintreath..ers? ... people of Wintreath. You can call me Gerrick (or Jerry), and I’m a 23-year-old from Bumf***, Indiana (can we cuss here?). I’m not sure if I should introduce myself here or the Introductions forum, so I’ll just do it over there. Basically, I’m just excited to join Wintreath and open to mostly anything.

My questions would just be to explain the point of regional legislation, military, embassies/ambassadors, and publications. Also, what’s the point of the World Assembly? Does the legislation passed actually affect each nation’s legislation, or is it just roleplay?

I like this guy already. You have done your research thoroughly.

I will attempt to explain the areas you've mentioned, but I will note that the mentor program can do so as well, and apart from just being your mentors, they can get you integrated a lot more quickly too, but I myself got along fine without one.

1. It's Wintrean.

2. Cuss all you want.
 Everyone else sure as shit does.

3. The legislation is there to protect your rights as a citizen, to establish protocol for GP (gameplay) endeavours, and to keep you informed of the actions that the regional government takes. There is a big debate going about the future of the legislature, if you want to follow it here.

4. The military is a GP thing. Wintreath is officially a defender region, meaning we respect regional sovereignty as well as the right to self-govern, and we take part in liberations from raiders and imperialists. In practice, however, Wintreath is not all that concerned about GP. We even allow imperialists into the government (like me!)

5. Embassies are our communication channels with other regions, and the ambassadors are... well, I'm sure you can figure that part out.

6. Our publications are the means by which we communicate with said embassies, through articles and so forth. Until a few months ago, it was considered part of the ministry of Foreign Affairs, for this reason.

7. The WA (World Assembly) consists out of two chambers, which I'll explain below. You also need to join the WA to take part in the military.

7.1. The General Assembly is your typical RP (roleplay) setup, with people debating laws and so forth, upon which we then vote. Yes, the legislation that passes here does indeed alter your nation's stats to bring you in line with them.

7.2. The other chamber is the Security Council. It is almost completely focused on the R/D (raiding/defending) side of things, and this is where nations and regions are commended/condemned for their GP actions.

Another question: how do I create an avatar? In my profile settings, it says avatar URL; what does that mean? Like a web address? I was just going to use the NS flag I created or maybe my Steam profile pic as I don't really know what else to use, but I'm not sure if they have web addresses.

Yeah, just direct it to any image's url. Be sure to use http:// beforehand though.

On most browsers you can right-click on an image and select an option to get the image URL, if that helps.
