  • Since there's been so much book discussion, I'm wondering...does anyone subscribe to Scribd or any other similar service? It's like a Netflix for books...they have a lot of books, and for a flat fee you can access any of them. It doesn't have every book ever, but they have some good ones that I've been reading the last few weeks. It comes with a 14-day free trial if the concept sounds interesting to anyone, too. :P

  • Real books get expensive though...for the cost of not even one a month, I can read many on the computer or on my iPad, allowing me to read books I'd otherwise probably never get a chance to read.

  • There is something to that: I mean I would always rather have an actual book to read, but I do still get quite a few e-books online just because they are cheaperand easier to store :-\ ... Though anything that I really like I will go on to buy a physical copy. :D

  • I have a hard time justifying buying a physical book, because I know I'm not usually going to reread it. And I detest spending too much time on a phone or tablet, so I'm not too keen on ebooks. I can get every book I could want at a library.

  • You must have access to nice libraries then...we have a decent library, I even volunteered there for a few years, but there are a lot of books that it doesn't have, especially up-to-date tech books. Scribd has a better selection and I don't have to leave the house to access it.

  • I dont like reading on tablets, I know they are more convenient and stuff but lord love a duck they hurt my eyes. Reading on a tablet just annoys me so I prefer book books. I know that its a bit of a decadent expense but thats why I tend to buy second hand books from this little store near where I live. The best part is that I buy books that I tend to buy books without really knowing what they are about and that means I tend to buy books that hold my interest for longer than most others.

  • I also hate reading on screens though I did find that the original Nook worked quite well for me...
I still use it from time to time and really like it...

  • I actually really like reading on my 8" Windows tablet. The electricity situation isn't reliable in South Africa, so I'm forced to read my textbooks on it anyway when the power is out, and with the Kobo store, I can get any book I could possibly want. It's also really convenient to have one device with all my textbooks and other books.

A normal book makes my hands so sore, anyway, what with my Arthritis.

Not to mention, I'm fairly certain that ebooks are helping our diminishing forests out quite a bit.

  • Honestly I can read ebooks, but I tend to get distracted...also there is just something about paper books I enjoy...
