Hi there everyone, it's your neighborhood friendly Pengu here.

As you may have noticed, there was no Game of the Month this month alongside our Avatar of the Month and Wintreath's Finest.

This decision came because in the many times we've had this contest, there's been little discussion or anything of the sort outside of one game, Hearthstone.

So my questions to you are these:

Is there a continued interest in having a game of the month?  Would you take part in playing the chosen game and discussing it with other members?

Would you prefer we did away completely with voting a Game of the Month, and replace it with something else instead?

Please discuss your thoughts on this in here, as I would like to hear everyone's input on this.

Well, from what you said, it seems like fun, so I'm all for it.

I do like having the Game of The Month, it's just I'm not always able to play them. That's just me though.

What are some of the past Games of the Month?

The point/goal of the contest is to pick a game that is accessible to at least most people, so that we can get together, play together, and have a good time.

Or, in the case of single player games, get people to all play the same game, get their reactions on it if they've never played before, discuss what they do/don't like about that game, and really just get some nice discussions going in general. 

It's something that gets people interested in games they may have never tried before, or just get people interested in gaming if they've never done it before.  All games would be easy to obtain, with no buy-to-play (IE buying at the store, online, or paid subscription) games being allowed to be entered since we want as much people checking them out as possible.

I was hoping DC Universe would have gotten some great discussion since it's a well known free-to-play MMO that's on all of the consoles aside from Nintendo ones, and it's on PC as well.  I was a little disappointed that there was zero discussion happening at all.

I would nominate a little magical title called Dwarf Fortress. But it all depends on your interpretation of "accessible." Is it free? Yes.

Is that an accurate image of the learning curve? Yes. If by some miracle it does get selected, I do have plenty of resources to help anybody new.

Well, we aren't nominating at the moment, this is mainly to discuss whether or not enough people would be interested in keeping it alive.

Although you're not the first to suggest Dwarf Fortress.

Also, a poll has been added.  Please feel free to vote in it whether you're discussing with us in here or not.    I want to get as much input on this as possible.

I thought Hearthstone was an example of things going really well...there was a lot of interest in it, we got some games together, and there's a lot more we can do with it in the future. It was a free game that people had either played or had some interest in that was easy to get into and quick to play. The other games we've selected haven't really have not caught on the same way...

I think part of the problem is that there isn't much advertising or support of the topic...it comes around at a time when there are several other topics of the month up for vote as well as elections every two months, meaning that it's easy for the actual topic to get lost in the shuffle, so to speak. Then there's really no discussion or support behind the game that's picked...in Hearthstone's case @Wuufu and @Hugsim supported it by discussing it, playing games with others, and in Hugsim's case organizing a tournament. I think the other months would be more successful if there were a similar effort for those games. Spreading out the '... of the month' topics might also help, too.

I agree. I enjoyed the tournament that was setup, and the few games I played on it.

If we choose another game, we should have either a tournament or a Twitch stream of some kind to bring people into the game. Would provide a good boost to the game and allow people to see it in action.

I have played quite a bit of dwarf fortress, but I always used a tile set.

Anyway, I agree with Wintermoot and Wuufu, I think we should continue the Game of the Month. Though I think we could do more to promote it and make it more involved.

Depending on the game we could organise a small tournament, or maybe just see who could get the highest score or something. Or maybe someone could video themselves playing it or stream it, or maybe just write a review or their experience with the game, like some have done with other games in the past.

My budget and lack of a capable computer limit my ability to participate in Game of the Month, but I would be sad to see it go. If Integration can help at all with keeping interest high in the GotM, I'll find a way!
