If you could spend a winter alone on an island in New England caring for an empty hotel, would that be a dream or a nightmare?

This video follows Alexandra de Steiguer, whose winter job is caretaker to the Oceanic Hotel, which is situated on an island 10km off the New Hampshire coast. To some it would certainly be a lonely job, but I think there's a certain appeal to it too...being away from society and the stresses of mankind for awhile, having time to think and reflect, even to experience nature at the best time of year. The video shows her writing and taking photos in her spare time, and having an uninterrupted place seems like it'd be great for that.

Also thought this would be an excellent place for the Wintreath Teamhouse if it ever grew big enough to require a large hotel to contain it. xD

assuming all my needs were met, like food etc, this would be a dream

Wow, that was a great short film.

The bleak and harsh natural beauty of the island is very captivating. Like it subtly draws you in to see something that most people won't, but at the same time it might kill you if you're not careful and stare too long. There's an almost nostalgic melancholy feeling in the air. Just alone with your thoughts, watching the waves crash and the days go by. I can definitely see the appeal.

That hotel is creepy af tho. Give me a little cabin, and it'd be great.

lol, I'm sure the hotel is just fine when it's filled with people. Any large space is going to be creepy when there's just one person in it.

I think the island looks amazing in winter though...you have the chill of a New England winter, the sound of the ocean, and I loved how cloudy it was in the video. I think it'd be an amazing environment to read, write, reflect, and recharge your mental energy. It makes me wonder why it even closes for the winter...I guess not enough winter loving people to support it. v_v

Even with modern tech, bridge building is not an insignificant task. Very expensive, very difficult
