  • From all the comments I've seen so far we DO need a map, but it has never been really finished or whatever...

We need a separate "Menu" click-on saying "The Wintreath World Map". In this thread pg or the "Nations of Wintreath" you can tell us what your country looks like... then someone from the list who knows this website better can make the Map finally! You don't have to rush it take your time!

  • Sounds good. What would be the best way to design the map? Should it just have a bunch of continents, thus allowing everyone to pick any location for their nation? Or should we have a more detailed map with mountains, oceans, warm regions, rivers and forests? That will give people less possible places for their mountain or island nation, but the map will be more interesting.

  • 16x the size of Russia? Isn't that more land than the planet earth actually has above water? That's.... Amazing. That is quite a bit of space...

  • The problem with regional maps is they tend to do alot of dictating in regards to how and what an individual players geography is going to appear. Nonagon if you were to make a regional map including your nation....90% of the rest of Wintreath would be microscopic...if even legible on the map given the claimed size of your nation. Now that being said I dont have an issue with your nation size....but in doing a regional map only a portion of your nation would be able to appear. Much like Russia does on the European specific maps, or you would have to adjust the geographic appearance of your nation to work with the rest of the map. Something you likely dont want to do.

Here in lies the issues with regional maps. Individuals who have already taken the time and energy to lay out a map and design for their nation are not going to want to modify it in order to fill in with the geographic regional map in many cases. For example Awyyn already has a well established map and with exception to a couple of changes, Im really not willing to modify it much. Especially given that swathes of my empire are not frozen tundras....and ergo will not directly fit with a Wintreath map.

    I have a compromise-

In an old coalition region I was in our regional map consisted of sectoral maps. The main sector map had an island on it. This island was the namesake of the region (coalition) and served as the government center for our coalition. This area was not ruled over by a specific nation, and had its own set of government and history for the residents. Individual nations would then download this map and add their nation geographically around it. When that portion became full we added another sector map (that would geographically be next to the last) and people could add to that new one.

This would be my suggestion if you choose to proceed with a regional map. Wintreath as an independent locale at the center serving as our centrist unification source.

  • So we'd have a 'living' map, that everyone who wants can add to? That sounds like a good idea. I'm for it.

That would be the best way of putting it. The map begins at its core and the nations design and add themselves to it as they like and upload their version to replace the current one (each rendition adding a new piece) once a piece is filled we add a new one.

Like doing a puzzle but before we can put the pieces together we have to paint each individual piece.

  • I can make my country smaller! The 16x bigger in other maps, like wise me and my friends version... the planet (Mizu) is actually around 16-20x bigger than Jupiter. The more countries and city-states added the bigger the planet is. And my people are 8-9ft tall beings that rome a russian-tundra like area. The biggest nation on Mizu is around 60x bigger than Eurasia! HOLY SHIT! Thats huge!

  • Just want to point out that at this time all regional maps are unofficial, so people are free to make any version they want...there can even be more than one version or map at the same time. :P

My proposal is simply as a means to prevent you from making your nation smaller as I believe one of the greatest aspects of Nation States is the ability to unleash your inner creative self. The whole point of the phasing sector idea of mine is to allow individuals to add and build up as the region grows. By subdividing the world into smaller sections individual smaller nations will be easier to spot then if the region was done on one whole large map. That was merely the intent I was trying to relay.

That being said I may be able to work on a map a bit if I get free time after finals next week.
