This act shall be cited as the Initiatives Amendment Act.

Amendments
Section IV. Elections, subsection 5 shall be amended to read as follows:
5. A proposal shall be included in the next regular election if the greater of thirty percent rounded down or six Citizens who voted in the previous election, including the petitioner, sign the petition within seventy-two hours of its creation. The Monarch shall then verify that all signatories to the petition voted in the previous election.

Hello, everyone. One of the things I wanted to tackle this term was what I viewed as a problem in the Fundamental Laws. In it, ballot initiatives only have 48 hours to collect the necessary signatures to get on the ballot. In my view this is insufficient. Given how much time we give candidates for office and how much time we give people to vote it seems inconsistent to give only 48 hours to collect all required signatures. Thus, I propose an amendment to the Fundamental Laws extending the period to 72 hours, a time period I view as more fair and workable for Initiatives.

I would really like to hear the opinions of the citizenry on this matter. Do you think this is an issue that we should tackle and would you support such an amendment? Feel free to share any opinions, all views are welcome! Thank you and I hope you all have a good day.

I like this idea.  While two days may seem like a lot of time to collect signatures there are always all kinds of circumstances that can get in the way in real life and half the region could be on vacation at the time of some important initiative proposal so I would support this idea.

I would personally support bringing it to even longer time periods, especially given that standard voting periods in Wintreath are an entire week and petitions IRL typically have significantly longer time periods than voting periods.

I support this. It was sad to see that the initiative proposed this last election lapsed, and many people were disappointed, saying they didn't know there was such a short time limit. I do, however, think 72 hours is a sufficient time period.
