  • Sir Robin of Camelot: D.E.L.E.G.A.T.E.

Democratically Endorsed, Lustrous and Eternal Guardian of Authority, Truth, and Excellence

Hola friends!  It's your favourite delegate, running for re-election!  8)  To safeguard our region from horribly penned WA legislation, to approve basically every other proposal to ensure an ample supply of legislation in the World Assembly, and to improve our foreign relations and inter-regional cooperation in the WA in the event that we want to get any good bills passed (obligatory attempt to get people interested in writing something for the WA)!!!

The last few months were pretty great in terms of the numbers for the delegacy, we now have 64 endorsements, which is, as far as I'm concerned, an all-time high under at least myself as delegate, which is great!!  I do plan on continuing the polling regimen as we get more time and can generate more interest in WA affairs and such.  In the event that we have any other ideas for polls, you can always feel free to PM me on either here or on NationStates and I should probably respond to you/put up the poll within a week!  I really want to have a poll queue this next term.  That would be very fun!!

But fear not, though we have now figured out the Acronym for Delegate, there are but more things to accomplish in the WA!  Our goals for the next sequence are as follows, and quite similar to those of the previous term:

    (1) To write and submit at least one piece of legislation and attempt to get it to vote!

    (2) To further expand the polling programme in order to generate more activity and grow our WA endorsement numbers for everyone in the region, but specifically to get the delegacy solidly over 60 and preferably closer to 70 endorsements (if we get 70-80 delegates range eventually we'll show up as an individual chunk under "show delegates" for most votes.  We only do now if we take the contrarian position on an issue, which is fine, but it'd be cool if we could show up on every vote and get our name out there!!).

    (3) In order to ensure our security and continuing stability, the Republic will [continue to] be reorganized into the first Galactic Empire, for a safe and secure society.  :P

    (4) Again, if this has not been made completely clear before, if anyone in the community wants anything from the WA office, we are always willing to attempt any crazy plan, no matter how far fetched or half baked the idea may seem at first.  :)

    Enter the Bureaucrat
    1) Why are you running for this position?
I am sincere, thorough, and a good communicator generally, and though I lack some of the more graphics related skills that some others possess which are necessary for other positions in the Cabimoot ( :P ), I'm able to generate some interest in the WA, I think!  :)
    2) What do you aim to accomplish as thane? As part of this, you must include at least one thing that you promise to do beyond the minimum listed duties of the position during your term. It should be measurable, so that it's black and white whether you fulfilled this mandate at the end of the term if you are elected.
Getting community involvement in creating quality polls that generate fun little activity is hard, but I'll keep trying I suppose.  I'll also attempt to put a few more announcements in the RMB on the NationStates side of thing as well for important WA votes.  The complication there is that the RP on the RMB does make it a bit harder to do stuff there, so I'll maybe have to think of something like a link in the main page section or whatnot.  Also, as always, the best way to gauge the health of the WA is probably (1) endorsements, so we'll keep trying to have those secured and (2) the percentage participation of the region in WA votes, which is pretty high (we usually are getting 20-30 votes in WA which is quite awesome, if you ask me, but I think we could always try and bump it a bit higher!!)
2a) If you are an incumbent running for re-election, did you fulfill your mandate from the June election? If not, why didn't you?
Things have been awesome we've gained basically 8 endorsements term over term, which is about a 15% increase over the course of the term, which is awesome!!
    3) What qualifications or experience do you have in the area that you are running in?
I have been delegate for over a year, I'm Wintreath's Ambassador to TNP and Europeia, which are also cool reasons, and sometimes even have formatting that rivals Wintreath!!  (Jk.  We've got the best formatting, it's impossible to beat us :P )
    4) How do you plan to have the time to fulfill the duties of the position until the next election in February?
I'm generally pretty active, and I've expanded to lurking discord now so that's interesting.  It's late in my current university quarter so early this session may be tough but overall activity should pick up and then we can go from there!  :)
    5) Are you currently a part of any other NationStates regional or organizational government? If so, please include those regions and positions.
I am still Lord of Development in New Hyperion!! (the Wintreath Vassal Region)

We're not the lowest on either measure, but there's room for improvement, especially when it comes to getting nations that have already joined the WA to endorse you. Do you have any ideas or plans to get more people to join the WA and especially to get those that have already joined to endorse you?

  • Yeah the tricky part about our WA situation is that it's a game mechanic which we don't really have the biggest community emphasis on, be that because we have a bunch of dual or more citizenship people who have their WA nation in another region, or because we don't place as much emphasis on things more direct NS-gameplay side of things.  (Example, DSA has a much greater percentage WA participation, which may not seem like much, but that does do a bunch of things for the amount of activity generated by it.)

As far as how we can improve it, I think something akin to TNP's WA Development Program is a really good way to go about things, but I'm not entirely sure if we can get a list that we can compile that is just WA nations within our region for some sort of weekly or biweekly newsletter on the legislation being voted on/how to get more endorsements/directing people to endorse others more, etc.  :)

Why do we not have much community emphasis on the WA? For me personally, the WA has never seemed terribly relevant other than the occasional Security Council resolution (for example, the attempt to commend The Church of Satan). Is that how others feel too, or are there other reasons people aren't involved in the WA? I feel like we need to dig deeper than simply conclude that there isn't much community emphasis...the same could be said for a lot of things that didn't get much attention until someone came along and convinced people that it should be. :P

If you'll tell me what exactly you need, I'm sure we can get you any data. Zaphyr's .wan command on Discord can be used to get a list of WA nations, and his .rebels command can be used to get a list of nations not endorsing you.

I do that a good deal part of the time manually and generally I just don't get responses, my guess is that plenty of them just don't check telegrams, or just view them as autogenerated or a nuisance (there are plenty of those on NS anyway, I don't blame them.)

It generally isn't a very terribly relevant thing, the GA is basically just MUN, and the SC is the only sort of game-related thing.  That being said, getting things passed generally requires building a broad coalition of support and interacting with people from various regions, which is good in that respect for improving inter-regional relationships (sort of like our Z Day things improving relations with other regions, and the sort of bilateral relation development that was developed in coordinating liberations and such with WHR before it was disbanded).

Also, I would DEFINITELY like the data on who is part of WA and not endorsing, that'd be pretty awesome information to have!! :D
