Greetings, new Underhusen! Now that the election is finally over, we need to go about the business of selecting a new Speaker. Over the next 48 hours, please post here if you are interested in standing for Speaker...afterwards we will have a 48 hour election to determine who it will be unless only one person stands.

I don't want to overstate my qualifications for that, because I haven't even been in the Underhusen before, I didn't think I would be nominated for Speaker, and I don't consider myself the most qualified for that of the 5 of us.
If for some reason you all vote for me anyway, I'll try my best, but are you sure about this?
I was considering just voting for whoever got nominated first... seems kinda awkward now.

On basis of consistent activity level alone, you're by far the most qualified, as I don't particularly want to be Speaker again.

That said, you can always decline the nomination if you want.

I don't want to pressure you into anything (albeit I guess that's what this is anyway, sorry!), but I second the nomination of @Aethelia. You're here now, might as well go all in?

I'm sure our veterans (and the rest of us) would be there to support and help you, it's not like you'd be challenged to climb Annapurna with an angry bear tied to your back. It's just more work (and maybe some additional prestige, but mostly work).

I have no idea how or why this is happening but it looks like I'm going to have a chance to try being a good Speaker. Would Mathyland like to nominate me too before it's too late? Also does nobody else want to be nominated?

Yeah, I’ll also nominate @Aethelia. It really won’t be that difficult to learn how to be Speaker; you just create voting topics and then send bills to the Overhusen if they pass.

If you chose to accept your fate, it'd probably be best if you'd clarify it with a statement such as "I accept the nominations and stand." Wintermoot would probably appreciate the unquestionable clarity.

At this point it'd be strange for any of us three four suddenly running against you, and Mathyland probably would have taken the little time it takes to post if he'd wish to stand or add anything else.

With any luck we'll avoid wasting those two extra days, and be in fully working order by this time tomorrow.

You also have to manage the Laws page (by adding/editing laws and their vote history), manage the Underhusen forum (by locking posts whose discussions have closed, and possibly also moving posts from earlier Underhusen terms to the Archive), and edit voting topics after they've passed.

But yeah, it's a pretty simple job to pick up.

um, I don't know how to respond to congratulations, already feeling a little more overwhelmed than anything positive right now, trying to get caught up quickly, I'm really sorry if this turns out to be a mistake, I won't be offended if anyone wants to pull out rules for impeaching the Speaker, even before the night is up tonight, but I'll try my best until that happens, but I might need help, especially because I see some interesting activity has started already, even though I thought earlier it might not be too hard taking December with it being the holiday season...

I know first, I've been looking through the Underhusen archives at every topic called "Office of the Speaker of the [n]th Underhusen". I should get on that very soon right?
Just want to be sure of two things, first... Speaker Pro Tempore and Secretary, is it standard to privately message someone first to be sure they want to do it? I couldn't find anything like that, looks like I just pick someone for each and then are that role, which doesn't feel entirely right when Underhusen and Speaker require accepting nominations... but if that's how it's done, then, based on Underhusen interest in getting things going, I'm thinking tatte for Secretary who I'm sorry for assuming wouldn't be active when that's clearly not the case, and taulover for Speaker Pro Tempore if that's okay despite not wanting to be Speaker, if there are no unofficial objections before I get to that soon.

Second... the previous Office of the Speaker of the [n]th Underhusen topic has an agenda, with no edits on it to indicate that was added after based on other people setting the agenda. Am I supposed to set the agenda? The "Agenda for the twenty-fifth term" topic has me thinking about what I'm supposed to do with that, I don't want to comment on some of the other things that came up there, I just really need to know what I'm supposed to do with that regarding my obligations, before doing or saying anything based on my opinions.

I do see one scary sentence in that topic already... where "@aethelia" and "choose" appear near each other... I was thinking, and it's okay to tell me if this doesn't sound right... shall we focus on cleaning up the leftover issues first before getting to new ones? Not sure if each one must have it's own new topic, or if we can continue with the existing ones, but should we resolve those first before they age more?

I'm really not sure... I highly welcome any advice, from the Underhusen, Overhusen, Citizens, anyone, either publicly or privately, will try to read the "Procedural Rules" another 8 times because it's a lot to take in... sorry in advance for any failures, I promise not to intentionally abuse the power given to the Speaker, but I can't promise an immediate full understanding of how to be a good Speaker.

If you're taking the job seriously enough that you're worried about being impeached, I think we have nothing to worry about.

Typically, a Speaker will list a few topics of interest in the Office thread, but there's no hard-set rule on that. I myself took the ideas from my own campaign, other people's campaigns, and North's proposed Code of Conduct.

Either is fine. Other than tatte I don't think anyone has any new ideas anyway, so it's up to him on whether he wants to make discussion posts on those now or later. And if you want to go the simple route we can probably keep the same discussion threads for ongoing issues.
