  • One thing about Pengu's Starcaller call, the description says that it will randomly choose a 3x3 open target unless one doesn't exist, then it will choose a 2x2 open target. However, it doesn't specify what it will do if there isn't a 2x2 square available. In the end, I picked a random open coordinate (23,34) which would form the top-left tile of a 2x2 square. Unfortunately for Pengu, the other tiles in that square had already been targeted, so the Starcaller this turn only picked up the one tile. This is obviously a mechanic that will need more work before the next game.
    Not necessarily; perhaps that's just the negative side of a Starcaller, especially towards the end of the game.

    I've split this into a new topic outside of the gameplay area.

    The Starcaller already has the negative of having a 10-turn cooldown. Seeing as it's one of the rarer artifacts as it is, chances are it'll be discovered later in the game, making it not as useful an item as I had planned, especially compared to the overpowered Scrying Stone. Chances are that the Starcaller will be buffed next game, perhaps by making its attack targeted so that players can use it in a similar way that Gerrick is using Scrying Stone at the moment.

    Also, Scrying Stone will probably be nerfed so that it only applies to as many attacks as the player has stones.

    The Starcaller could also aim for an L bend of 3 open tiles.
    That's a possibility for the next game, but I've decided not to massively alter the artifacts and items mid-game to ensure it's as fair as possible.

  • Instead of clearing a 2x2 square when there are no more 3x3 tiles, how about 9 or 4 single tiles?

  • The concern that I have with randomly targeting single tiles is that someone who gets eliminated from the game because of it might feel like they were cheated or got eliminated senselessly because they were targeted by chance instead of by another player. Randomly targeting blocks of tiles allowed for strategies to thwart that such as making sure their area didn't have enough open space, but there's no defense against random selection of single tiles.

  • I guess I should have clarified, but I meant empty single tiles, since normally it would clear an empty 3x3 square.
