As a loyal Pokemon fan, I've been with the Pokemon games since Gen 3. With the announcement of Sun and Moon coming up this November, Nintendo has been going crazy with announcements for new Pokemon, new mechanics, ect. What I'm mostly curious is if there are any fans of the games here, and what your thoughts on what's currently been announced are.

To be honest I'm disappointed that there won't be any gyms. Plus exeggutor's new form looks ridiculous. :-/

Atleast they made up for it by making Alolan Ninetails and Alolan Sandlash amazing Also, I am definetly going to miss the gyms this game, but I'm glad Nintendo is trying to break out of their shell and try something other than the "8 gyms, defeat the evil team, face the elite four and become champion" formula

I rather like the traditional formula. I think they can (and should) expand on features from previous games. An extra storyline using the underground feature from Diamond & Pearl would be cool.

I've also played since Gen 1 and I agree, it looks absolutely redonk. I hate it. x.x

Wait...they took out gyms?  So what do you do in the game then aside from going around and catching pokemon and fighting random trainers?

They are making island trials for each island, having totem Pokemon at the end of each trial, then they have Kahunas for each island. Its still undetermined for how it's going to be structured

Nothing wrong with trying something new. I'm hoping it's a bit less rigid. One thing I've always disliked is how straight forward the Pokemon games tend to be. Very point A to B games. Plus the new Meowth is sassy as fuck and I love it.

I really did love the new Alolan Pokemon revealed in that latest gameplay footage. Alolan Marrowack looks epic, Alolan Meowth looks royal (and Egyptian), and Alolan Raichu's is a fun throwback to surfing Pikachu

I dunno, I never felt that they were very point A to B games.  I actually liked backtracking quite a bit and visiting old areas, beating all the trainers, and whatnot.  When I think point A to B games, I think games like Sonic the Hedgehog (the older titles) or Super Mario Bros 1 and 2...where it's completely impossible to backtrack levels once you beat them (and you're on a time limit in levels).  Whereas Pokemon is completely open from the start (well, as open as a handheld title can be, I mean)...you just need the right HMs to be able to get everywhere.

I agree with Pengu on them feeling open enough as an rpg, just I like how they're showing us different varieties and how they can bend the system/the goal of the game

Look, I'll be honest. What I just said was a bit strange. What I'm trying to say is I like how they're making this generation feel new, but not too far from the old ones.
