Quarantine protocols exist to keep us safe, but whether or not they're righteous is another story. Are Quarantine protocls morally bankrupt or morally sound? What do you think?

Morality is relative.  The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.  And in this case, the needs of the region outweigh the needs of the various stragglers who attempt to gain refuge.  Once we have contained and eliminated the threat before us, however, we should very hastily render whatever aid we can in order to help everyone in need of it at that time. 

Sure it seems moral from outside the quarantine, but what about the people inside? What about the people being forced to suffer for the good of the many? It might not seem so moral to them.

Is a decision moral overall moral for all?  What is inherently immoral about suffering?  Why does humanity fear pain?  Is it because we fear death, though death is not necessarily a direct consequence of pain?

Mother Teresa actually thought pain and suffering brought one closer to God as Jesus suffered on the cross, and death would allow one to join him in heaven. That's why her houses for the dying didn't try to cure people but rather just allow them to die with very minor comfort. Note that she got the world's best medical attention when she was dying, however.

So, yeah, some people could agree, but I am not counted among them.

The word "quarantine" comes from old Italian (from the Venetian dialect to be specific) "quarantina" meaning 40 days, which was the length of time it refereed to the amount of time ships and travelers had to wait outside the city of Dubrovnik in-case they showed signs of the black death; which at the time was in the process if killing what would be 30% of the population of the continent, as well as millions  more less accurately recorded in Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

Is what the people of Dubrovnik in the 14th century did wrong? It separated people, had potential to increase the likelihood of infection in those outside and it was enforced and backed up by the security forces... Would you have done any different in their position?

I probably would, it's in our nature to protect ourselves or our loved ones... if you have the option to save people or risk everyone you knows life I think it's very human to do it...
Does that make it immoral? I would say not... At least not in every situation, like anything under the right circumstances it could be used in very immoral way... But I think the idea alone, of protecting people isn't on it's own a bad thing...

And more recently, quarantine protocols played an important role in the eradication of smallpox...they not only isolated the people who had it, but the people who they had come in contact with until it was certain they hadn't caught it. Sure, it was inconvenient for those that ended up not having it, but I think the alternative would have been immoral, especially if it had prevented the eradication of the disease.

I think to me, personally, the moral option is the one that will save the most lives...that's a subjective definition, but any definition of morality is going to be subjective.

Morality is overrated. In the end, what really matters is if you can look yourself in the mirror at the end of the day. If someone had a gun and was going to hurt someone, is it moral to kill him? No. Would I do it? Yes.

Damn morality when zombies want to eat your brain.

Quarantines are ethical provided that people are provided a minimum standard of living while in quarantine. If you're just dumping them into a barren patch of land, that's profoundly immoral - but if you're, say, ensuring they have food, water, and hygiene facilities (and if any treatable injuries are sustained, ensuring they can get medical care - I specify 'treatable' because the obvious cause for this topic is Z-Day and a zombie bite is Probably Lethal for most zombie viruses), then that's totes chill.
Essentially this is a case of not letting the 'cure' be worse than the disease.
