A Proclamation Regarding Gabriel Penguon (Pengu) and the House of Penguon

It has been some time since I've had the pleasure of elevating a member of our region to the nobility, an honour that I do not grant lately. Elevation into the nobility is one of the highest recognitions that I can bestow, and I only elevate those who have been active, have been loyal and faithful to both the Crown and the region, and have in some way become a pillar of the region and the community.

However, I have the distinct pleasure of elevating Gabriel Penguon, aka Pengu, into the nobility of our region. Pengu arrived in our region in late September, right at the beginning of a period of change and decline in this region. Without being granted any recognition or formal position, he began to tackle the challenge of regional culture at a time that our Jarl of Culture as fighting more important real-life battles, and through the forum games he's introduced, the contests that he's picked up and ran, and the assistance he has provided for events such as our recent festival with The North Pacific, it's not an exaggeration to say that he has revolutionized Wintrean culture, leading us to a cultural renaissance.

In fact that revolution has been key to our recovery and renewed growth. If we now have a successful tourist program and all the improved diplomatic relations and awareness of what a fun region this is, it's because people outside the region want to come to play the games he brought to the region and run. If our own Citizens feel a new sense of excitement and wonder at everything going on in the region now, it is for the same reasons. I for one constantly feel that, and I'm amazed at how busy this region has become and how many new faces I see as a result of his work.

But that is only part of the contributions he has made to this region. In addition to serving as Acting Jarl of Culture and as Chairman of the Overhusen, he is one of the most active members of the community both here on the forums and IRC, as well as one of the friendliest...sometimes it seems his cheer and patience have no limit. At the same time he balances all his work here with a busy real life, serving as a role model for anyone with a limited schedule that also wants to help make our region even better every day.

As Monarch, I feel that as a member of this community his contributions to the region have been invaluable, and that as a person and a friend his presence is irreplaceable. In recognition of both, tonight I have the honour and pleasure of confering this title of nobility upon on...

Thus, by proclamation of the Monarch on this 501st day since the founding of the region, Gabriel Penguon is hereby risen into the nobility of Wintreath as the Count of Cain, in recognition of his accomplishments for the betterment of Frozen Realm of Wintreath, its community, and the people within it. Additionally, the House of Penguon shall be known henceforth as the Noble House of Penguon, whose members shall have all the rights and responsibilities afforded to a proper Noble House of this region.

I'm incredibly honored to receive such a commendation.

Wintreath is a region that has become very special to me.   I've been on Nationstates since 2004 and have never gotten into the more in depth and political sides, despite politics being a main focus of the gameplay.  I mainly just stayed in GCRs and would occasionally just create my own region to be a part of.

After coming back from an extended leave of absence, I decided to join XKI after receiving a telegram from one of the recruiters.  I was a part of their region for a bit over a year and enjoyed it...but something felt like it was missing.  I could feel myself slowly getting burnt out by it, and I took on an ambassadorship to help possibly quash those feelings out and renew my interest in XKI.

I had absolutely no idea what I had signed myself into, though.  The minute I joined Wintreath as an ambassador, I was absolutely blown away by how warm and welcoming the messageboard felt.  The founder himself was active and welcoming, the other members were friendly and open, and I knew that I was going to enjoy my job.  But between Wintermoot's surprise in the idea of ambassadors being active on the forums, and the restrictions placed on practically any member of XKI visiting other regions, I decided to relinquish my citizenship over there, and was very lucky that Wintermoot welcomed me to Wintreath as a citizen.

I'll say this until I'm blue in the face, but Wintreath has become almost a second home to me, and I appreciate every moment that I spend here.  Even with the typical stresses of daily life, logging in here daily is something I look forward to, and it always manages to bring my spirits up.  Even though I've been here a short time, I've grown to love many of the members here, and consider myself honored to have made the friends on here that I have.  I feel like Wintreath has done nothing but help bring out the best in me, and I will gladly return the favor and help bring out the best in Wintreath in any way possible.

Wintreath has a strong amount of potential as a region because of the atmosphere it provides: warm, caring, open, fun, carefree with some structure to it, and always willing to give anyone a second chance.  I will always fight tooth and nail to defend this region, and will never stop loving it.  I want to see this region continue to grow and thrive, and will always do everything in my power to see that happen.

And even having the chance to be here, to have met all of you, and to have had the chance to even contribute to Wintreath's growth and stability has been a tremendous honor...and again I will say it but I appreciate each and every one of you and am glad that I have gotten the chance to meet each of you.  And I will always feel privileged to meet members that choose to join our region as well as our regional allies that visit us.

So thank you, all of you, for being here and being who you are.  I will always be eternally grateful that I get the chance to be a part of this amazing region with all of you.  And I mean it when I say that it's a huge honor to experience Wintreath with all of you.  What I feel when I come here is something I wouldn't trade for anything.
