I was thinking, maybe we should put together item kits for new players just starting out...enough to help them get started in the world. I know there's the chest at spawn, but it was looking pretty sparse when I checked today and what's in there depends on people remembering to put stuff in there. This way, new adventurers would be guaranteed to get the stuff they need.
I was thinking definitely some kind of food, equipment, tools, and a bed. Any thoughts on other items or what specific types of food/equipment/tools should be in it? Or even just cool items to have.
-
I'm thinking a stack of food, pickaxe, axe, shovel, leather boots, few torches, bed.
How would we put together kits other than just throwing this stuff in the spawn chest?

We could use bundles. There's plenty of leather from my hoglin farm.

Oh nice, hadn't heard of those before. Would all that kind of stuff fit in the bundles?

Ahhh wait bundles hold up to a stack's worth a stuff only, so the nonstackables would not fit in those.
(You haven't heard of those because they never fully implemented it in survival, but we have a datapack that adds a crafting recipe for them.)

I guess we could make a few chests, each with their own bundle, and trust that players won't take all of it.
I'd be happy to donate some basic building supplies to the bundles: wood logs, cobblestone, etc. I also have plenty of bread and beds.
-
Ah ok, well yeah maybe we could do a bundle of like bread, torches, and building supplies and then as Wintermoot suggested just put the rest of the stuff in a chest with an honor system to not take too much.
-
It's gonna be an honor system regardless, even if we have bundles.

I have been working on this, but it's a *surprise* :P

Let me know if you'd like any resources and stuff!

Ok, this might be becoming a bigger project than I imagined, cause it's two separate things.
I'm building a new building right ahead of spawn to hold the newbie bundles...the structure itself is done, and I have a path going to the lodge (which is what I'm calling it), but I'm working on sprucing up the inside and outside. It's got some beds, a fireplace, a nice table, and 12 chests that will hold the newbie bundles! This is the part that I meant to be a surprise. :P
I didn't mean for the actual kits to be a surprise though...filling up 12 chests with goodies is a challenge. Right now I have a stack of oak and spruce logs for each chest, and I'm working on getting a stack of bread for each one. Maybe there's better food, but bread is my go-to and it seems to work fine. Otherwise, I was hoping others would commit to pitching in whatever they thought would be nice for newbies to have. ^-^ I'm sure others can make better tools than the stone tools that I usually use, and I thought it'd be cool if there was some flavor from multiple people in them.

I'll take a look tonight if I have time!

I made a bunch of bundles and put them into the spawn chest, each containing:
16 iron
16 porkchops
16 logs
12 torches
4 leather (for boots)
-
Our newbie offerings have come a long way!
In addition to the bundles in the spawn chest (thanks @taulover!), newbies can come go up the hill to the lodge and pick up the following:
64 spruce logs
64 oak logs
64 birch logs
64 bread
32 cooked porkchop
8 iron ingots
Someone had put items in one of the chests, which I assumed was a donation to the bundles, so I divided them between the 12 chests available (thanks to whoever did that!).
I'm still working on the lodge itself, but now getting started on the server will be a bit easier :D

Oh yeah those were the extras from the bundles haha (other than the bread that was not me)
If anyone has sheep or spider farm we still need wool for beds
-
Oh yeah! Beds have been added. ^-^
The bread was also me
