Anyone up for a game of Mafia? I can orchestrate the first round, and select who's who and get us going. Anyone else up for it?

Just a question...if you post rules for Mafia, will you hold yourself to them as well? I quit playing Mafia in another region because the organizer violated his own rules involving people not discussing the game outside of the topic, and then immediately afterwards started going at players for doing the exact same thing.

Thanks for the reassurance...it was very disappointing, and when I confronted them they admitted they were breaking "the letter of the rule", but then fed me this crap about how he wrote the rules so he knows he didn't really break the rules. >_>
In any case, I'm willing to give it a second go on here. :)

wat is mafia~?

Mafia is one of those psychological games where you have to try to read into the other players and determine what role they play in the game.
At its base, the players are divided into two groups...townspeople and mafia. In my limited experience, there are a few mafia and a large majority of townspeople. The players picked as mafia know who each other are because they will need to work together, but the players picked as townspeople will only be sure of their own role. During each day phase, all players attempt to come to a decision on who they feel is mafia...people can accuse, defend themselves, present "evidence", etc. At the end of the day, if a decision is made that player will be eliminated from the game and can't participate in it any further. During the night phase, the mafia privately work together to decide on a townsperson to kill off. The goal for both sides is to eliminate all the players from the other side first.
Optionally the game can also be expanded with more roles, such as a townsperson detective role that has the ability to investigate other players and find out what their role in the game is. There are apparently dozens if not hundreds of additional roles the gamemaster can add, but in my personal experience having too many other roles just makes the game too complicated and doesn't really add to the fun. And it actually can be a pretty fun game...lots of paranoia, people latching onto small, usually unimportant things, killing off wrong guesses as to who the mafia is...
In any case, since all interactions go through the game master, this is a game that requires a good deal of work from the person organizing and running it. We're pretty lucky that Yuri volunteered, so I hope people will sign up. :)

Right now, including myself and Weiss, there are a total of six players. Although I would prefer to not play to avoid any hint of rigging or bias. I'd like to be a neutral party, playing only the GM aspect. There will be two Mafia, and the rest will be townsfolk. I'd like maybe two more people to play if possible.

Mafia sounds interesting. I’ve never played it before though, so I don’t know how good I would be. But, I could give it a try if you need another player. :)

I'm currently in Texas on a business trip, but I'll be back in a few days. We should have all the people we need by then so I'll start.
