The Renegade - January 2014
Happy new year! The sky's the limit as the RIA pushes forward onto bigger and better things!
New Constitution Ratified, Great Houses Introduced
The newest constitution has reformed the RIA government. Instead of electing senators to the executive Grand Council, senators will be selected from the three Great Houses. As the houses grow and gain influence over the region they will earn more representatives and a stronger voice in the Senate. So far the Houses have been met with open arms by citizens of the regions.
With the approval of the Houses comes the RIA's first Senate. House of Sauropods has selected long time members Lichto as their representative, Oxihydronia is representing House of Kittens, and Tangaroan Islands will serve as the senator for the House of the Regal Hamster. The senators have started their term by discussing the intricacies of the House Influence system and are working to create a fair ranking process.
RIA Special Forces Continues to Grow

The RIASF is adding members and posting new missions. Our total mission count has raised to 30 missions. Sailor pins have been awarded to Tangaroan Islands, Tierra de Madre, and HumanSanity. Sailors of the RIASF are always working to push their limits and improve their skills in order to compete with the best of them. The RIASF still remains active primarily during minor update, but major activity is slowly on the rise.
Werewolves 2 Ends - Another Foreigner Wins Steam Raffle!
Werewolves 2 - Vault 48, was themed after the vaults from the Fallout video game series. As such, the winner of the WW raffle was given a choice between Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition or Fallout: New Vegas - Ultimate Edition. Congratulations to Controlitia of 10000 Islands for winning the raffle and selecting New Vegas.
Vault 48 was an interesting game that mixed new and old players in a new setting. Confusion set in pretty quickly, guiding the new players towards near destruction and causing much frustration from the seasoned veterans. Luckily, one of those veterans was Controlitia, who ended the threat by using his power to remove the last Infiltrator before more Vault Residents could be injure.
Our next Werewolves game is expected to start pretty soon. We'll be offering 2 prizes this time for a winner and a runner-up - Left 4 Dead + Left 4 Dead 2 and Portal 2! You're invited to come by and join in on the fun!
Population Report
After a dip to 150 nations, regional population has started to climb again. We have spent the last while hovering in the area of 190 nations, with a very slow climb upwards. The population increase is also resulting in new members on the forum.
-
Thanks for the update, and happy new year to the RIA as well!
I'm particularly interested about the Steam Raffle and Vault 48 game. Is that in a public area? I'd love to see more about how it was ran. :)

We award one raffle ticket just for joining, and then another for 'surviving' to the end of the game.

So it's basically a themed Mafia game, but it's really well done...it definitely freshens up the game up. :)

The Renegade - February 2014
Another months brings exciting new changes for the RIA. We continue to see expansion in just about every facet of the region, with no indication of things slowing down!
Great House Report
The RIA's Great Houses have been working to increase their regional influence. Each house is working to define its purpose in the region, which will be sure to provide several options when new members decide to join a house.
House Hamster appears to have found its focus areas in RIASF activity and the region's commerce. They also aim to have a strong presence in the political system and are already working on a road map for the elections in March. Two businesses created by members of House Hamster, Hamster Gaming and Lottery and G & T Incorporated, have had their business licenses approved by the Commerce Committee and are open for business.
Kittens is widely regarded as the laid back, easy going house. They are currently in the process of developing the direction their house will take. They will focus on less serious aspects of the region than the other houses, concerning themselves with fun, games, and other activities for members of the RIA.
The Sauropods are quickly becoming the most active and influential of the 3 Great Houses. Their proposal to take over as the curators of the Library of Treason and Plot has been approved and they have been hard at work archiving as much of the region's history as they can get their hands on. Their house will focus on educating new members of the region as well as increasing the importance of knowledge throughout the RIA, going so far as possibly offering tutoring lessons on real world subjects. Their activity and involvement in various regional programs is setting them up as front runners in the next House ranking.
The Senate Report
The first Senate of the new RIA has been working hard to set the tone for future representatives. Several issues have already been proposed and are being discussed in the Senate Chambers, with citizens providing much input for their representatives in the Capitol Lobby.
Measurement of House Influence - The senate is working to determine a quantifiable method to measure House Influence. Each action a house commits would award it points, and the House rankings would be built from this. The goal of the quantified measurement is to move from the current subjective methods and to ensure objectivity when scoring each Great House.
Regional Animal - For nearly 10 years, the hamster has been the official regional animal of the RIA. However, recent discussions have been introduced to the senate to select a new animal that will better represent the region's culture and history. The phoenix was first proposed, but there was still a desire to stick with the hamster in order to maintain the historic link. The consensus now appears that the two will be combined. The fire hamster is likely to be the next regional animal, representing the phoenix's qualities of resurrection and while holding on to the hamster's link to our roots.
RIASF Update
The RIASF continues to grow and maintain its presence in the field. Sailors have worked with several other defender regions to assist in large liberations, as well as the passing of information between agencies to help each other prevent raids.
Tangaroan Islands has been promoted to the rank of Midshipman, making him a junior officer in the RIASF. He'll be working closely with experienced defenders from various organizations in order to further hone his skills as he begins to lead the RIASF's minor update division. Dacia has been promoted to Sailor, having clearly demonstrated that he is prepared to exceed the RIASF's expectations of professionalism and discipline in action.
RIA Prepares to Celebrate 10th Anniversary
March of 2014 will mark the Renegade Islands Alliance's 10th year of existence in NationStates. We are inviting our friends from all over NationStates to join us we celebrate our region's history. The celebrations will include several games and activities, including raffle tickets for more video games than we've ever given away before! The grand prize in the raffle will be Bioshock Infinite, and we can't wait to give it away!
Population Report
The RIA has experienced another growth spurt, surpassing 240 nations and entering the top 40 regions by size. With 60 additional members since our last update, we've been experiencing a healthy increase in Regional Message Board discussions. New nations are slowly finding their way on to our forum and getting involved in the extra programs our region has to offer.

Thanks for the update! A fire hamster sounds like a worthy likely next regional animal. :)

One of our members started a business on our forum where she makes dinosaur avatars for people. The beauty of it all is that she uses a trackpad for the whole thing ???

Greetings, friends!
When I was the Delegate of the RIA, it was my intention to join the forum of every ally we had. Unfortunately, that didn't end up happening: now i come to you as the Foreign Affairs Officer and I'm ready to get to know everyone here. I can't wait to get to know you all!
I suppose my first order of business would be introducing myself:
Hi, I'm Timothia (also known as Tim, Timlo, Timba, Timmy, or That Guy Over There). I joined NS last fall and promptly joined the RIA after being recruited by Shizensky. As the only other active member of the region at the time, I became the Delegate for the period of the rebuild. When my term came to an end, we held disappointing elections in which no one really ran against me. Thus, I earned another term.
In my term, our region grew from a dozen or so inactive nations to a bustling region of 300 nations. When my second term came to an end, I didn't run for reelection and rather threw my support in for Lichto - a storied member of our region and past Delegate - to run instead. He eventually won the election and appointed me to the post of Foreign Affairs Officer. And that's that, you're pretty much caught up.
The RL guy behind my computer screen lives in the American Southeast. He's a multi-talented guy who spends equal time on basketball and computer games. He's a member of the rare genus "Geekikus jockia" of which there are very few other members and yes, he is homeschooled. Don't judge. He spends his time either practicing basketball, sitting the bench in a basketball game, sitting next to the computer typing, listening to Spotify, watching a bit of TV, eating, or reading. Or sleeping.
Mostly sleeping actually.
It's great to finally be here and I'd love to get to know you guys and your stories! I'll be around here as often as I can, spamming and teasing like a pro, all while making it snow just a little bit more.

Greetings! I apologize for the late reply...sadly I was out of town on work-related training when you posted this, but I'm ready to make up for it now. :)
I'm Wintermoot...the Monarch of Wintreath, and with the recent departure of Charax from NS now the Acting Jarl of Foreign Affairs. People have a lot of names for me, and I'll go by any one of them. I got my start in NS in January 2013 and was attracted to Spiritus when I was recruited by Cormac, who ended up guiding me through most of my time as a newbie and became my NS mentor and NS father for a time. I joined the new RA of the region in its first session, and from there was elected President of the region. During my term and a half Spiritus saw unprecedented growth and activity.
In time though, after some bullshit politics from some members of the region, I realized that it was no longer the region I had been initially attracted to, and I didn't find the idea of fighting off character assassins and mudslingers to be very fun...so I resigned from all my posts and left the region. While I was pondering my NS future at that point (I'd never been a part of any other region before), Charax convinced me that I should try to create a serious region, and Wintreath is the product of that effort. We were founded on values of cooperation, friendship, and respect before politics, conflict, and drama. So far we've done a good job of upholding those values, and I have to admit other than having to see friends like Charax leave NS this is probably the happiest time of my NS-life.
And now you're here, and we can all be even happier. :P

That sounds so cool, a region of friends...
Luckily, our region has been spared much drama for as long as I can remember: sometimes too much so! No one has disagreed in any of the votes we've held and a lot of our politics has become just everyone saying yes to one idea ;D
But I'd take that over drama and mudslinging every time.
-
So far it's worked out really well, but who knows about the future? Spiritus used to be a region of friends, but that slowly eroded away as it became a more relevant gameplay region. We don't have as many cosmopolitans here and we're significantly more regionalist, but whether it remains friendly will depend on the ability of our natives to disagree respectfully.
Not having much contention in the region has helped so far too. :P
-
That's because of my secret isolationist influences.... Sssssh, 'tis the only way to keep us safe.
-
I was only supposed to be a supervisor here, but I like it so much that I've gone through the steps to become the official "Ambassador to Wintreath".
I guess that means that, like it or not, I will be here. Hanging out and bugging you guys... er... I mean... representing the RIA abroad.
(So yeah, basically, hanging out and bugging.)

Nice Timodactyl

Awesome
-
In that case, celebrations are in order! :)
-
Thanks everyone, I'm looking forward to this!

The Renegade - March/April 2014
Sorry for the late update! March was a busy month for the Renegade Islands!
Great House Report
The Great House have held their internal elections. 4 senators will be representing the Great Houses for the next 3 month term. The houses have also met to produce more activities for the region and each house has seen a general increase in activity.
House Hamster has elected Scepez as its representative in the Senate. Captain Gutt, leader of House Hamster, has been name the Chairman of the Commerce Committee. He is working to develop a full-blown economic system for the RIA.
The Hamsters have not experienced much in terms of house population growth, but the internal activities as well as hosted activities within the region have been increasing.
Saint Kitten, founding member and king of House Kittens, has left NationStates. His departure has left a hole in Kittens leadership, which appears to have been filled by Acronius after an internal house Prime Minister election.
In other news, Senator Oxihydronia has gone inactive, vacating her senate seat. The Kittens have agreed to select Aetaris to replace Oxi for the remainder of the term.
"The Literary Art Thread" has become the hot spot for House Kittens. Everybody is welcome to post writing, quotes, or pictures to share with members of the house.

House of the Sauropods has been working hard to provide an environment of learning and education. There are a number of projects currently underway, and more planned for the near future. Things to keep an eye out for include:
- The revamp of the Library of Treason and Plot
- Alliance Tutoring, your real life studying service. Comes with its own chat room for real time homework assistance.
- The Lecture Hall, an up and coming project designed to provide access to great quality lectures from different areas of life.
- Becoming More Than A Spammer. Written by our very own Timothia, this will give new members an idea of how to get involved in the region
- The Creative Corner, a space for members to post poetry, stories, and other brilliant mind-creations.
Aside from that, the Sauropodians are hard at work learning about archery, making friends in Lichto's Lounge, and loving dinosaurs. Come and sit around the campfire with us sometime.
The Senate Report
The Second Senate of the RIA took office on March 15th, and immediately got to work. After proposing and discussing several bills they realized that the senate needed rules and organization, which has become the current focus of the legislative body. This senate term has been a busy one so far!
Senate Operations Act - The Senate Operations Act is designed to lay down the foundation for the senate's ability to govern itself in the future. Rather than push all internal rule changes through an internal vote, as well as a Grand Council vote, this act will only require the approval of the founder. The hope is that rule changes can be made more efficiently. The act was passed, with 3 votes in favor and 1 senator not voting. The act is currently being considered by the Grand Council.
Regional Holidays Act - This act seeks to legislate the observance of significant regional events, such as the anniversary of the region's creation or the advent of the Great House system. This proposal was later complemented by the introduction of the Holiday Operations Act, which explains the meanings of different types of holidays and how they might be observed.
Monetary Actions - Discussions started regarding the construction of the regional economy and how to best utilize our forum's money systems. Discussions were brief, however, and the senate has decided to wait until Captian Gutt introduces his design for the region's economy.
RIASF Update
RIASF sailors are staying busy, and our numbers continue to increase. Shizensky has been awarded the 50 Successful Missions ribbon, Tangaroan Islands has been awarded his 40 Missions ribbon, and the 10 Missions ribbon has been awarded to Scepez and Acronius. The increased activity has also led to promotions. The old GrottoBay, Kzaria, Acronius, and Scepez have all been promoted from Trainee to Sailor. Additionally, Tangaroan Islands has been submitted for consideration for promotion from Midhsipman to Commander, the second highest command rank in the RIASF.
Join us for our 10th Anniversary!
10 years ago, the Renegade Islands Alliance was originally founded as the Rogue Islands Alliance. While we may have changed names and government styles, several members of the first region became the founding members of the Renegade Islands. In order to celebrate our history we have decided to hold our 10 anniversary celebrations to coincide with the creation of our first home, the Rogue Islands Alliance.
The celebrations will include games, awards, prizes, and lots of spam! We will be hosting a Mafia/Werewolves game which will include real prizes, such as Bioshock Infinite! We're really looking forward to this and we'll be inviting all of our friends from across NationStates to join us! We'll make sure to post another announcement when we have a date set!
Population Report
The RIA continues to grow. Our population has passed 310, with few signs of slowing down. At our last count, 95 of these nations are members of the World Assembly and 60 of them are endorsing our delegate. These numbers do not count deployed RIASF sailors. The population increase has also translated quite nicely into activity; our daily average of logged in forum users is consistently above 30, and conversations are always carrying on in the NationStates RMB.
Our mentors and welcoming committees deserve a huge round of applause for all of the work they've been doing. They have put a lot of effort towards keeping new members engaged, which has immensely contributed to our increased activity. Thank you!
Thanks for reading! I know you guys get these reports all of the time, but we appreciate you taking the time to read it!

He he, Plot

I read everything posted in the embassies here...I think it's important that the regions we associate with know the value we place on their embassies on the forums. :)
I'm particularly intrigued by the homework/studying service. We have a lot of school-age Citizens, and homework seems to come up quite a bit. I had thought about trying to start something similar in Wintreath, though I'm not sure what interest there is in the region for it. Out of curiosity, what made the House of the Sauropods decide to pursue this project?
I will personally ensure that there's a Wintreath delegation to congratulate RIA on it's ten years as a community (if not a region) during the festival when it happens...wow, what an accomplishment! We'll only be celebrating our six-month milestone in a few days. :P
-
I'll be around for your 6 month milestone, that's pretty impressive, especially when you consider how large your region is already. I wish I knew how to do that: go from unfounded to 15th largest in half a year. Congrats!
So far we haven't had many people utilize the tutoring project - I don't think we have had any, actually. For some reason no one has wanted help. But I really like the idea behind it. To answer your question, the House of Sauropods has a thread called "Which Paths Shall We Tread?" in which we brainstorm and toss out ideas that we could use to help the house and region. Tierra de Madre - one of the founding members - actually mentioned it, and she spearheaded it forward. I always liked brainstorming threads, personally, and I particularly like our "Which Paths Shall We Tread?" one.
I appreciate you reading these updates. I know you get plenty of them and I'm honored that you take the time to read them.
-
Dang it Tim you ninja'd me on Wintreath. :P

In the RIA, there always seems to be a game of Werewolves (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mafia_(party_game)) going on!
Other people call it Mafia, and there have been thousands of variations, but I honestly believe that no one does it better than the RIA. If anyone in Wintreath is interested in joining one of our games, you are more than welcome to do so. I would be greatly honored if you would, in fact. If you want to check out what exactly we do, then check out some of our past games. If you want to join, check out which games are currently running or will be starting sign-ups soon.
If you have any questions: well, I'm here, right?

Thanks for the invitation! I also got your PM about this, but haven't had a chance to look at the game or respond because I'm at work. :P
-
It's going to be my first game, but I watched the last two games and I absolutely HAVE to get into this one. If it's going to be my first time, I'll have a couple newbies with me so I don't look so bad :P
-
Sorry for the double post, I just want to let you all know that the game is set to start on the 13th. I suggest that you get signed up before the 12th. There's no rush, of course. It is worth mentioning that 4 free games have been given away on Steam to the winners of past games.
-
Thanks for letting us know! I'll try to look at it more closely before then. :)
-
Sign-ups are technically closed, but sign up within the next 3 hours and I might be able to get you in.
-
I'm terribly sorry, I thought the deadline was the 12th.
-
That's what I thought as well! I'm absolutely sure that that's what I was told. But I was just told to tell you all that sign-ups are closed. I can just plead my ignorance and still get you in, but you'd have to sign up tonight (I won't be after 11 CST) so that I can get you in. Sorry!
-
Sorry, I wanted to look at what it was about closely before committing. Maybe next time. :P
-
No problem, I totally understand. I'll post here again when the sign-ups for the next one start.
-
Thank you! :)

For the RIA's 10th anniversary I will be hosting a Jeopardy tournament in the RIA's IRC. Only 1 participant per region is allowed. Since of course we will be having someone represent us, that leaves 8 spots open. The first 8 regions to PM me with the name of their representative will be in. Categories will range from general knowledge questions, NS related things and various RIA themed categories.
There will be a total of 4 games:
3 games to determine the top 3 participants
And a 4th game to determine the champion
Time is short! Pick your representative and make sure to PM me their identity!
-
*You're
Sounds fun, I might join.
-
*You're
Thanks.
And it depends: Whose the smartest Wintrean we got? :P
-
We should do a tourney here to decide
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S4 via Tapatalk
-
How and when will the tourney be running?
-
I fully support doing a tourney...I just don't know how much time we have...
-
It's simple. I will provide participants with a link to a Jeopardy board template I have created. This way it is easy for all of you to keep track of what places on the board have been taken, as well as which categories are where.
The actual anniversary is on June 9th, so I am leaning towards then.
Also, Spiritus has selected it's representative, their very own founder, Tim! That leaves 7 spots remaining!
-
:o
He spoke of the region which must not be named!
-
Oh Timmy? I'd love to run against my own little Tim.
-
Due to certain mods refusing to take certain objects from their bums, Shizensky and I must post this on offsite forums instead, so here it is:
The winner of the tournament will receive a prize of 1 PC game courtesy Shizensky. I'll retrieve the list from him and post it here later.
-
What's up with the moderation?
-
Alright I wanna play
-
We need to decide fast
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S4 via Tapatalk
-
I think because we're running out of time this should be monarch appointed.
-
But I don't know who would be best in interregional Jeopardy ;-;
If it's going to be partially on NS-stuff, we probably need someone with a lot of knowledge of NS outside Wintreath. We don't have many people in the region like that...
-
Then shoot for the people who knows trivia... But we have to hurry...
-
I know a fair bit but I'm not a frequent GPer....
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S4 via Tapatalk
-
Ok, let's do it like this...everyone that would like to be considered post here and I'll pick someone in 24 hours.
-

I would appreciate being considered.
-
What's up with the moderation?
NS mods deleted a few posts from our thread on the NS forum because we advertised prizes that have real monetary value. Such party poopers. :P
-
Geeze...that's pretty silly.
In any case, two people asked to be considered, so I'll pick...Reon. He's a smart cookie, and we can teach him NSGP. :o
-
Most excellent. I shall read up on this NSGP stuff.
-
And I shall re -read all the RIA stuff in preparation.
-
Your representative is accepted. Note that you are free to choose another person any time before the day of the tournament.
-
Good luck, Reon!
-
As a note... When abouts is this happening? So I can plan ahead...
Also thanks Timothia for the luck.
-
June 9th is the decided date. The time isn't chosen quite yet, because I don't know my schedule for that day yet. However it will ideally be between the hours of 2PM and midnight.
And an update! The Global Right Alliance has chosen their representative, their very own Joe Bobs! 5 Spots remain!
-
What is the timezone on that 2PM to midnight?
Also Joe Bobs? WOOT! I missed that dirty ol' penguin. Give him my best regards.
-
Sorry for the delay! We just brought on an editor for the newsletters and updates. The good news is that I don't have to do them all. The bad news is that it took a lot of time training someone and working on ideas that resulted in almost no change. Oh well. :/

Our mentors play an incredibly important role in the development of our region. They serve as the first main point of contact for new members, working to integrate them towards becoming successful members of our region.
The winner is, The Church of Satan! CoS came onto the scene fast and heavy, and it showed in the community. CoS wins this award with more than half of the vote. Congrats Church, and thanks for everything!

Senseless posting is a time-hono(u)red tradition in these parts, and it's only natural that the nomination thread for this award was buried under spam.
The winner is... a tie! it probably won't shock anybody that Oxihydronia and Aetaris are both coming out with this award, combining for more the 75% of the vote!

This award is for any new member who has positively impacted the RIA. Nominees must have been new to the RIA in the last year. This one was 2-way race, with a few lead changes until the end.
In the end, the vote went to Timothia. Tim was thrust into the position of the RIA's first reboot delegate and he ran with it. This provided a lot of stability that helped us get the region off the ground. He is now serving as our Foreign Affairs Officer, and doing a fantastic job there. Thanks, Tim!
RIASF Sailor of the Year

This award is for the member of the RIA Special Forces whose contributions have aided in our overall mission. Their professionalism and dedication to the cause serves as a shining example of what should be expected from all present and future RIASF sailors.
Please join me in congratulating RIASF Commander Tangaroan Islands, who wins this award with 90% of the votes! Tanga has been a huge asset to the RIASF, and he's made my job unbelievably easier as he becomes more involved in RIASF command decisions. I couldn't do it without you, Tanga!
Honorary Renegade

This award is for any visiting nation or foreign ambassador whose actions have benefited the region. While not a citizen, this person's contributions have positively impacted the region and they have proven themselves as valuable to our community.
This year, we are awarding all 3 of the nominees as Honorary Renegades - Benevolent Thomas, Ananke, and Sauron. Each of them have contributed in so many ways - many of them behind the scenes or through venues not easily accessible to the average member of the region. Who and what we are as a region is only possible because of these three, and I can't express how thankful I am to be able to work with them.

This award is for the citizen who sets the standard of being a Renegade Islander. This person best represents what it means to be a member of this community. They are the embodiment of the Renegade Islands Alliance.
The winner is... Tierra! Tierra works as hard or harder than anybody in the region. Between the mentors, re-building a recruiting department from scratch, running the RIA family on the side, and keeping me in line, I don't know how she does it all. It's been an absolute delight to know you for the past decade, Ma'am, and I'm glad that there aren't any signs of that slowing down. Congrats again and thank you so much for everything!
The Alumni Award
(https://wintreath.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1283.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fa558%2Ftierrademadre%2FScreenShot2014-06-13at21131am_zps3cc35797.png&hash=14dc6f513a04004119f7c2774fc7eef3)
This award is for an individual who has been a member since the first Renegade Islands Alliance. Their contributions have been invaluable, and without this person it is very likely that the RIA would not exist today.
The winner is... Domino! Domino has been a member from the very start, and I knew him for a few months before the RIA was even a twinkle in any of our eyes. He provided a lot of insight that helped guide the region, and his constant support over the years has helped shape what our region would become today. We couldn't have done it without you, Sir.
Renegade of the Year

This award is for the citizen whose contributions have added the most to our community. The winner of this award will be someone who sets an example for other members of the region to strive for.
*sigh*... I won this one.
I was forced into accepting the nomination for this one. I didn't want it, but Tierra is far too convincing for her own good. Thanks to everybody who voted for me, but more importantly, thanks for voting, and thanks for being here! Honestly, it's a reward in itself just being able to come around and see what this region is and what it turns into. Thank you!

Skeleton Army Invasion!
(https://wintreath.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1283.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fa558%2Ftierrademadre%2FScreenShot2014-06-13at31537am_zps7f7c3b41.png&hash=7e41206e4333da3f392407ba646158b8) (http://s1283.photobucket.com/user/tierrademadre/media/ScreenShot2014-06-13at31537am_zps7f7c3b41.png.html)
As May came to a close, a couple of nations crept mostly-silently into the region. Bone of Contention and Vampiric Kitten, spies from The Skeleton Army, sent home information while under the guise of hunting for the fabled Regal Hamster of the region. Led by the warrior skeleton queen of Ramazakal, the skeletal troops poured into the region mostly-around the appointed invasion time. Despite some initial confusion as to which island they had landed on, the skeleton soldiers and other assorted minions were soon making their way across the Shizensky Straight to the Founder's Island. Along the way the following things occurred:
- Some collateral damage from a staggering elephant
- An incident involving a Flying Garden Tool
- Mud-slinging wait mud-running mud-driving mud-somethinging off the back of a truck
- Tea party was invited to a tea party, but refused.
- Tim was face-palmed by Tea Party for speaking up against the spamming of the RMB
- Skeletal Sauropods were awakened, though turned out to be a generally peaceful bunch
- Various nations of the RIA brought out their best army/space/fighting people to valiantly-but-unnecessarily defend the region
- The nation of Tierra de Madre attempted to contact the nation of Shizensky via nine mediums of contact, but all failed.
- Dolphins flipped over Church of Satan's flagship
- Lots of things were obliterated then put back together again, particularly skeleton heads
- President Mack called upon dark forces, only to realise that dark forces are only to be found in an alternate universe
- The Skeletal Kraken appeared!
Bilge Rat Ronnie summed it up nicely: "I think I might have had too much to drink, you know? It appears everyone is going mudding through a Satanic Church. I stopped some guy from lighting the rose buds on fire. I think he went to find Dennis Miller. Oh, and I'm building a sandman. Isn't he cute?"
Ultimately, the RIA became a willing colony of The Skeleton Army as Shizensky signed the Thighbone of Surrender. Much celebrating was to be had, except for a few rogue islanders who thought we were still at war.
Thanks to The Skeleton Army for their fantastically entertaining visit. We shall remain friends!

Senate Update:
Senate Procedures
This senate terms has been focused on building a foundation for future senators. Several bills have passed which set the rules and expectations for legislative procedures. Senate self-management was also streamlined with legislation that allows the senate to pass legislation regarding their own self governance without needing the full approval of the Grand Council.
RIA History Project
At the request of the Delegate, Lichto, the senate quickly approved a measure to begin a research project around the RIA's history. This project is meant to go alongside the RIA's 10th anniversary. Shizensky is working to gather any information that might have survived the 2006 forum attacks, and is also conducting interviews to fill in some gaps. An early timeline was prepared for the anniversary, but more will be added in this on-going project.
"I would like [House of the Regal Hamster] to work with the Sauropods to document the region's history. This will be done through finding any documents that may have survived the purge, and conducting interviews with as many people as possible to piece things together." says Shizensky.
Great House Updates:

The Hamsters have gone through a recent membership shuffle. Captain Gutt, former house leader, recently left the House. His departure also left a vacant leadership position. Senator Scepez was selected as Gutt's replacement, and he immediately focused the House's attention to focus on releasing a regional news service through the Great House. In other news, Bolive, the newly appointed editor of The Renegade, became House Hamster's newest member. Bolive's editor status fits in well with the House goal of promoting regional news services.

The Kittens have enjoyed recent membership boosts, which will hopefully translate into boosts in activity for the House. We have also been given the opportunity to manage the regional RP boards, which is a great start to increase the house's influence.
There are also on-going negotiations regarding a House alliance, but details cannot be revealed to the public at this time.

Cool things have been happening in House of the Sauropods, as the keepers of education continue to expand the horizons of learning!
- The Lecture Hall has now opened, with the first two lectures up and ready to read.
Come and check out the talk on 'Wilderness Survival' by our guest speaker from XKI, Aersoldorf, or 'Shrunken Heads' from our very own Church of Satan.
- The Centrer of Language Learning (spelling intentional out of respect for the different dialects of English) has been created. Found inside the Study Rooms, this is a place for citizens to practice foreign languages, and help each other in their learning.
- The Archery Dugout has expanded into the Training Grounds, where all forms of physical/battle skills can be explored and developed. Theoretically.
- The RIA Poetry Series has been offering a new competition every three weeks, results posted below. Hosted in the Creative Corner by Tierra de Madre and Sum Esse Fui Futurus, the competitions have been getting a good showing from citizens and visitors alike. The fourth challenge is open for entries now!
Our two senators served their first term with great seriousness and responsibility, and it was with no hesitations that both Church of Satan and Home of the Jacks were re-elected last week. We have welcomed a number of new members since the last update, and look forward to sharing new ideas and fun times with them all!

From a land of scorched earth I came.
Devestated, abandoned,
with noone else to blame.
Suddenly contacted by an inspiring man.
Out of the blue invited,
to the Renegade clan.
Citizenship in RIA, a new chapter in my carreer.
There is no more darkness,
I have nothing left to fear.
Welcomed by its members, accepted in the family.
My spot has been given,
In RIA's next century.
All those years providing, activites to amuse us all.
But when it got inactive,
the region had to fall.
Enough, Our mighty founder said, I set us back on trail.
Revival is the only way,
for RIA to prevail.
This is where I joined the story, helping to restore.
Aiming for the greater causes,
Don't we all want more?
We celebrate a decade, Let's all strengthen our bond.
I want to make a trip with you,

{1st - The Wall}
Three strangers walking down a road
One brilliant, summer day
Soon joined in conversation just
To pass the hours away
The first man to his fellows said
I saw today a man
Who lives within yon fortress walls
He seems his biggest fan
This arrogant, conceited chap
Would not so much as greet
Nor answer when I bid hello
My gaze he would not meet
He hid behind his wall so high
Aloof, too good for me
And so I bit my thumb at him
His kind’s no good, you see?
The second stranger then spoke up
I’ve passed his wall before
I do agree your words ring true
Now let me tell you more
You’ll rarely see him socially
Or out about the town
But if you do I promise you
He’ll keep his head held down
He thinks himself too good to speak
To folks like us you know
He had to build that tower high
To help his ego grow
Then finally the third said ‘Stop’
You’ve moaned for far too long
I’ll tell you since I know this man
That both of you are wrong
The man you’ve marred with venomed words
In truth is rather meek
An introvert in the extreme
So crowds he doth not seek
He’s silent just because he’s shy
Withdrawn, but kind, it’s true
That tower helps protect his heart
From people such as you
So if you’d simply take the time
I’m sure he’d you enthral
You’d find a brilliant, humble soul
Who hides behind that wall

Life without purpose,
It exists, don't you know?
It's like painting a painting,
with no one to show,
or running a run,
with nowhere to go.
Can a catcher catch,
if there's no one to throw?
Does the sailboat sail,
if the wind doesn't blow?
There's no fun in the summer,
if there never was fun.
There's no one and the other,
if there never was one.
My life does have purpose,
It's you, don't you know?
When I paint my painting,
you are who I show.
When I'm running a run,
You are where I go.
No matter my pitch,
you catch what I throw.
You fix up my sails,
and make sure the winds blow.
I won't let you be lonely,
I'll never be done.
You're my one and my only,
and we've only begun.

The RIASF is working to continue our mission of protecting what regions we can across NationStates.
Tangaroan Islands has been promoted to Commander of the RIASF, and has been assigned the Minor Update Command Post. Tanga's dedication and abilities have served as a fine example of what should be expected from all RIASF sailors. Congratulations to Tanga, and thanks for everything!
Members of the RIASF have also been working more closely with Ravania in recent days, and as a result our sailors have received UDL awards. The St Abbaddon Liberation Ribbon and UDL Spring Cleaning Medal have been awarded to our sailors for their contributions. We thank Ravania for the chance to participate in the Spring Cleaning initiative, as the experience provided useful training opportunities for our new recruits.
Population Update:
The RIA has continued to show healthy growth, though mostly through the efforts (and spare change) of Shizensky. However, never fear! The Immigration Department has begun its reformation, and will soon be sending out the next generation of top recruiters! The Department now also includes the Mentoring Team, as these two areas will be so closely linked in their day to day work. An exciting development for the region indeed!
Current population: 311
With possibly a few skeleton spies still hanging around...

Thanks for the update! Sounds like everything is going well. :)

VACANT
Hello everyone. It's been quite a while since our last update. A lot has happened and we're really excited about what's going on as of late! First of all though, our sincerest apologies for the lack of updates. That being said, this will change. August marks a month of transformation for Renegade Islands that will change us for the better.
New Delegate Elected!
Lichto did not run for re-election. In his place, HumanSanity ran unopposed. His first act as delegate was nominating The Church of Satan for Foreign Affairs Officer. The Grand Council unanimously approved it. The Church of Satan plans a much needed reboot for the Foreign Affairs office, which will include getting updates out, among other things.
Senate Update
The 2nd senate term since the rebuild of the region began was a bit slower than the previous in terms of quantity of legislation, but quality was excellent. This term focused on the economy and citizens rights. HumanSanity came in strong, proposing a few well written, well thought laws to prevent the exploitation of loopholes in regional law as well as finally give citizens the right to a fair trial, which had been completely overlooked until recently. In slightly related news, the relationship between The Great Houses and The Senate is being discussed. Soon though, the next senate lection will begin. 2 seats are now vacant because the senators in question became our delegate and Foreign Affairs Officer. So one thing is for sure, there will be fresh faces in the senate. Former delegate Timothia has declared his intent to run for a seat in the senate, among others.
The Great Houses
Currently the idea of severing the use of house influence to determine senate seats is being considered. Nothing is set in stone yet and some are reluctant about it because nobody wants the houses to suffer for it. Quite the conundrum indeed!
Constitutional Convention
With the rebuild of the region going so well, the last few months we have been beating around the idea of rewriting the constitution. Now it has begun and several have already chimed in with fantastic ideas, opinions and insight. A rough draft is already up and once we've perfected it, it will go into effect.
-
From the Cave of Good Intentions in the land of Timothia rumbles a beast long ago left to it's slumber. Responsibilities having been realized yet only partially fulfilled, this beast has unfinished business to attend to which it has shirked for far too long. An inspiring amount of ambition met with an embarrassing lack of results for this beast, but it has now returned. This time, there will be no more hollow promises nor over-achieving ideas which proceed to flop miserably. A busy season of basketball and a difficult year of high school will force this beast to leave behind it's spamming ways for a more maintainable method of communication.
But rest assured: this beast has been awakened, and I won't be going back to bed any time soon.
-
Welcome back to Wintreath! It's nice to hear from you again, and from the Renegade Islands Alliance. :)
It sounds like a lot is happening over there with change...so I hope all goes well!

Elections soon.
Greetings friends! A lot has gone recently and at the same time very little. There's big news ahead and you better believe I'm going to let the suspense build. Because recently we have lost a big part of our home here at Renegade Islands.
Farewell Sweet Prince
On February 18th then delegate HumanSanity and Security Officer Tangaroan Islands received a message from our beloved founder Shizensky. Due to personal matters that required his attention for the foreseeable future, Shizensky has retired from NationStates, passing on his account to HumanSanity. While we know we are in good hands, we all miss Shizensky very much and hope that he returns some day. Shizensky only had time for the briefest of messages, so clearly we understand and wish him the very best. Foreign Affairs Officer Church of Satan is currently planning something with which to commemorate Shizensky and everything he has done for us.
New Delegate Elected!
Delegate elections recently passed and since HumanSanity has taken up the position of Chief Executive he could not run for re-election. Nonetheless, delegate elections really heated up! We had four qualifying citizens gunning for the job, The Church of Satan, Saint Kitten, Scepez and Tea Party Separation of America (TPSA for short.) The campaign was fierce from the very start! Each candidate ran on similar platforms with subtle differences. The hot button issue this election was on the subject of regulating RMB roleplay.
The Church of Satan was aggressive from the very beginning. He actively lobbied for votes both in his campaign thread and on the RMB. It seems to have paid off despite the fact that he came up short. Voters didn't deny that he was the highest qualified candidate however some didn't agree with his policies on RMB roleplay regulation. He was popular among voters regardless. For approximately half of the election he led the polls with Saint Kitten trailing behind by just one vote.
Saint Kitten was largely quiet during the campaign period. A strange strategy but it seems to have worked. He spoke with voters like te rest of the candidates but declined to lobby for votes. His policy of complete de-regulation of the RMB earned him the most votes. For half of the election Saint Kitten trailed behind The Church of Satan by 1 vote until the last half of the election when he took the lead. It was smooth sailing from here for him.
Scepez was moderately active with regards to lobbying. Unfortunately for him it didn't get him enough votes. Scepez proved to be the least popular candidate receiving just 2 votes including himself.
TPSA's radical policy concerning RMB roleplay did somewhat well for him. His behavior however held him back and cost him the election. TPSA did surprisingly well in the election, peaking at 6 votes, until a sudden decline dropped him to four votes.
In the end the election ended as follows:
The Church of Satan: 5
Saint Kitten: 8
Scepez: 2
TPSA: 4
Congratulations Saint Kitten! As his first act, The Church of Satan was appointed to once again serve as Foreign Affairs Officer.
Senate Update
The senate has been plagued with inactivity. It is thought by some that TPSA's inactivity as a senator contributed to his loss in the delegate elections. Senate elections aren't far away as The Great Houses prepare to select their senators.
The Great Houses
The House of The Sauropods has just elected a new House Leader, The Church of Satan ran unopposed and is the new Rex of The House of The Sauropods. Expectations are high as The Houses are preparing for a grand revival of activity! It is anticipated that House competitions will occur.
Order in The Court!
Renegade Islands is seeing the first use of The Judiciary Act of 2014 as The Church of Satan accuses Larthinia of violating the Constitution. The charges include Public Disturbance and Harassment. The whole thing began when Larthinia contacted The Church of Satan via telegram and things took off from there. The case of RIA v. Larthinia is currently on hold until a new public defender is found because Larthinia's attorney recently became the new judge. The Church of Satan and his attorney, Tangaroan Islands, are confident that the case will end in their favor.
-
Thanks for the update! I'm sorry to hear about Shizensky...real life is truly the bane of people that make a difference in this game. I hope all is well with him, and if there's anything we can do to assist the RIA during this time please just let us know. :)
-
Thanks. It's good to know you guys have our back. :)

New Officials in Government!
After a few resignations, new appointments, and one... *ahem* early retirement (or some other official term that totally doesn't suggest being fired at all), the RIA is full of new government officials and a few more are on the way in the senate! New officials include a new Security Officer, Foreign Affairs Officer, and Cultural Affairs Officer. As a rehash of what each offical does, the SO, as the name suggest, deals with security risks and serves as the admiral in our armed forces (http://i1284.photobucket.com/albums/a569/Saint_Kitten1/funny-pictures-kitten-has-an-army-of-robots_zpszjafe3ip.jpg). The FAO is like my boss (which is ironic because I'm also his boss, welcome to politics). He oversees all of the embassies and ambassadors to and from the RIA, making sure everything runs smoothly. If you're wondering what I was making a joke about, the WA Delegate, being yours truly, appoints the FAO and occasionally checks up on him to see if everything is going as planned (http://i1284.photobucket.com/albums/a569/Saint_Kitten1/planning-kitteh1_zpsldzuvb1t.jpg). Finally, the CAO forms activities for the region to partake in, including new spammy threads and role-plays on our forums (which your should totally check out (http://renegadeislands.proboards.com/)!).
Why all the change? That'll be explained later, but for now be amused by this LoLCat.

2015 FRAVision!
Incase you haven't heard, or have no clue what I'm talking about, the RIA is hosting this year's furtastic FRAVision! The FRAVision is being held on our forums and, if you haven't already, you should check it out (http://renegadeislands.proboards.com/board/140/entries)! The FRAVision is just like Eurovision, where nations from all around the world (unless you're not located in Europe) compete in singing competitions. In the FRAVision, nations from different regions compete on the hosting region's forum. It's a great chance to check out other regions' cultures and make new friends so come on over!
(https://wintreath.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1284.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fa569%2FSaint_Kitten1%2Fcats-spring-08-kitten-chicks_zpsepptzokw.jpg&hash=1a8ecf391270fb17c6abb73196684ee9) (http://s1284.photobucket.com/user/Saint_Kitten1/media/cats-spring-08-kitten-chicks_zpsepptzokw.jpg.html)
New Constitution!
As if things weren't crazy enough around here, we have ratified a new constitution that promises to protect the individual rights of nations while also ensuring a well-run government and a kitten and fudge-based democracy (because who doesn't like a kitten and fudge-based democracy? (https://youtu.be/mlJmW3sFPEI?t=1m30s)). To read the new constitution, click here (http://www.nationstates.net/page=dispatch/id=433912).
Why all the change?
Because of many nations leaving the RIA over a short period of time (for many different reasons), we had to do damage control and hold quick elections to ensure that everything remained under control. Around this time the new constitution was ratified and the senate was cleaned out and is currently being replaced in our new elections. That's all for now, thanks for reading! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to post it below.
tl;dr: Life in the RIA can be summed up in one picture.

I am sorry about that silence, I didn't realise that the ambassador, or anyone else for that matter, didn't keep track of this or any other embassy that we have. We're keeping a close eye on everything now :)

It's nothing to be sorry about...all regions go through that once in awhile. It's just good to be back on track. :)

On April 18th, 2016, the region of Osiris was put under the microscope of interregional scrutiny following the declaration of a state of emergency and the institution of a transitional government. These actions - while not unprecedented in that region - are a heinous abuse of power by individuals that are acting in their own interests rather than the greater interests of the region of Osiris. After due consideration, the Grand Council of the Renegade Islands Alliance officially condemns the coup by Tim-Opolis Stark, Cormac, and Ambroscus Koth. The Grand Council of the Renegade Islands Alliance will also refuse to extend any recognition towards the "Transitional Government" of Osiris while extending official recognition to the rightful Pharaoh of Osiris, The Almighty Jesus Whale.
As a region, we offer our condolences to the people of Osiris. There are no excuses for being forced to choose between accepting tyranny or being exiled from the region that you call home. We strongly encourage the WA nations in the region of Osiris to unendorse Cormactopia II and Tim Stark so that a new nation may rise to power, a nation that will hand power over to Pharaoh The Almighty Jesus Whale . Alternatively, we encourage the "Transitional Government" to submit to interregional arbitration of the circumstances. We are utterly appalled by the volume of ejections that is necessary to cement the control and power of the "Transitional Government".
The Renegade Islands Alliance will support Osiris in its efforts to ensure that Pharaoh The Almighty Jesus Whale is able to receive their rightful position. We will not act in our own interests as a region, as defenders, or as individuals, but will rather act in the interests of democracy in Osiris. We will gladly receive those displaced by this turn of events, and we will also offer protection to any members of the rightful government of Osiris. We encourage our allies and our enemies alike to join us in the condemnation of the coup and the ensuing despotic triumvirate that is currently taking place in Osiris.
We, the undersigned members of the Grand Council of the Renegade Islands Alliance, hereby condemn the actions of Tim-Opolis, Cormac, and Ambroscus Koth.

Operation: Reboot is in full swing!
2015 was a bit of a slow year, and the beginning of 2016 seemed like it would be more of the same. The opposite has proven to be true. We've completed (another) Constitution, elected a new Delegate (spoiler: it's me), we've organized a whole new Grand Council, we've reestablished recruitment, we've started chatting on Discord, we've revamped the RIASF, and most importantly, our community has thrived as we find a new balance between newly-recruited friends and old faces. Oh yeah, and we also more than quadrupled our population en route to our highest population ever. That exciting news and more are going to be covered in our first update since the reboot!
Well, I've been known for my long winded paragraphs of information, but this time I'm not going to write you a novella. I've already written seven dispatches concerning the reboot (not-so-creatively named the "Timothian Dispatches") which I certainly invite you to read. In essence, they rally our region around the idea of keeping who we were as we strive to become something more than we've ever been. I definitely encourage you to read them if you are interested in how the region has changed so completely and quickly. I consider them the blueprint of our success so far. You'll find them all here (http://www.nationstates.net/page=dispatch/id=562546).
I won't make you wait any longer, go ahead and keep reading through this update to see what all has changed around the RIA. First, we'll get an update from Red Dusk on the state of the RIASF. Next, we'll hear about the developments of the region from Kaayibi and the Kerg. Finally, you'll get a link to a couple of really cool websites, just for fun.
Thank you for your time, and best of luck!

New Security Officer
The Renegade Islands Alliance Special Forces has a new face. Red Dusk has been appointed the Security Officer of Renegade Islands Alliance and will serve as the Fleet Admiral of the Special Forces. Ranking member of the February Council, Timothia, approached the recently named "Best New Defender" with the offer. After taking some time to consider, Red Dusk accepted and the pair presented their pitch to the Chief Executive who also serves as the Commander In Chief of the RIASF. The Chief Executive wasted no time in naming Red Dusk as the region's new Security Officer.
Red Dusk joins an exclusive and storied list of defenders who have served in this position. The position last belonged to Benevolent Thomas who was recently named "Best Defender of 2015". Before that, Tangaroan Islands had the privilege to serve as Security Officer. Affectionately called "Tanga", Tangaroan Islands is regularly regarded to be one of the best defenders to emerge over the past few years and was one of the last officers to be trained by Shizensky. Prior to Tanga's promotion, the office was held by one of the founding members of the RIA, Domino Domination. Also known as the Principality of Ad Infinitum, Domino was one of the greatest and most consistent defenders in NationStates history.
While it is great to have a fresh and ambitious new face to lead the Special Forces, we must acknowledge that Red Dusk cannot do this alone. That is why this update calls all able bodied Renegades who wish to stand up to the bullies of Nation States to enlist in the Renegade Islands Alliance Special Forces. Together we can beat back the invader tide of misery and oppression.
Let's jump back in time a couple months. The Renegade Islands Alliance went through a tough time, and had a Great Depression of sorts in relation to activity. Many active nations had left or CTE’d, and we were hemorrhaging our regional population. Even the roleplay that used to flood the RMB had died down. The Government had succumbed to the lack of activity and collapsed, leaving nothing to manage the interior. With the Council of February, this all changed. Come March, the region looked pretty different. The RIA was finally coming out of it's slump. The government had been restructured, a new delegate had been recently elected, and two new secretaries had been appointed for internal and external affairs.
Around that time, the discussion had come up again about recruiting. It was decided that the Secretary of State would head both foreign affairs and the immigration department. With the help of previous recruiters and a few stamp donors, a brand new recruitment campaign was created. After a few tries and fine tunings of the telegram, a good one was finally found and has been sent tens of thousands of times. With that came incredible milestones in the RIA. The original goal of a regional population of 353 nations was met 10 days before the target date. Three days after the target date, that goal was beaten by 100! Since the start of the campaign, the population has jumped from 114 to 460 in just 50 days. This is over 100 more than the goal. This is over quadruple the starting population. This is a mere 40 nations away from gargantuan. It’s more than we ever expected, but we’re not stopping there. We’ll continue to grow upwards and onwards without stopping for a long, long time.
With the Secretary of State hard at work with recruiting three projects came to the forefront of the Department of the Interior: (1) a new welcome telegram, (2) reinstating the mentoring system, and (3) creating a regional map. Within a week, the welcome telegram had been drafted, published, and then drafted and published again at least five times. With that done, the attention shifted to getting the new recruits integrated by setting up a mentoring system. The Government called upon the most active and involved members of the region who were not government officials to become mentors or otherwise help with assigned tasks. They accepted and before long there were five acting mentors in the Renegade Islands Alliance. A little less than eight weeks after the Council of February the three priorities of the Interior were finished with the regional map being published. The Department of the Interior now includes the RIA Institute of Cartography, which is hard at work creating one of the nicest regional maps on NationStates. Several other projects are on the table, and the region looks forward to seeing how the two Departments can continue to boost the activity and size of the region.
Net change in population: +350
New forum members: +87
New embassies: International Northwestern Union, Nasicournia, Free Coalition of Governments
The Government was reinstated with a new Constitution, and Timothia became delegate of the region. A Secretary of the Interior was swiftly appointed with the responsibility of all things interior, but with a focus of boosting involvement and activity.

Hello, Red Dusk here.
On October 5th, I was officially elected as Delegate of Renegade Islands Alliance. Since then, I pushed to have the Foreign Update completed as soon as possible. It is months overdue, and I want to see our friends and allies in other regions hear about our successes.
I do wish to sincerely apologise for the lack of content from us in recent months. I hope to see that behind us now, with regular updates released.
Now, that aside, I wish to take a little bit of time to thank people for reading this update. A lot of work has been put into our region in the past few months, and it really is wonderful to be able to share the fruits of our labour.

RIASF Update
In the past 3 months, the RIASF has seen unprecedented successes. Not only did it achieve a goal of 7 active members by the end of the Summer, it managed to surpass that goal. As of the time of the writing of this article, the RIASF boasts 12 trained sailors and about 5 sailors in training. Not to mention inquiries about the RIASF are flooding in from potential applicants.
In the past months, the Renegade Islands Alliance Special Forces has been extremely active and involved in various defender activities. Of note were the operations to liberate and refound Neko Sanctuary and it's help with the defeat of a massive group of nearly 40 raiders attempting to raid European Union, and immediately afterwards, Equestria. RIASF sailors have been present at numerous updates and have logged dozens of missions since the start of summer.
With only 2 returning members of the previous generation of the RIASF, Red Dusk has turned a group of newbies to R/D into an effective force, rivalling the forces of regions like The Grey Wardens. The Special Forces will do everything in their power to help defend regions. After all, the previous generation of RIA earned a commendation for their efforts. We're damn well going to prove we still deserve it.
Additionally, in the more recent few weeks, the RIASF pulled off an incredible milestone, bringing 7 people to update for a liberation, with an additional 2 on standby if the numbers were needed. These numbers made up nearly half the assembled forces, between 3 other organisations and the RIASF.

Foreign Affairs Update
The RIA Department of State is on the cusp of becoming an inter-regional phenomenon!
If you know anything about the RIA, you know that the last statement was very gutsy. The Department of State has a long reputation for inactivity and laziness pertaining to foreign affairs. Over the last three years, there have been far more months without an update than there have been with an update. We have rarely maintained a list of diplomats, and when we have, they have not been very active in their assigned regions. Since the reboot, every Secretary of State had been more immigration-minded. They have done an outstanding job at immigration, but foreign affairs has languished. Those days are over.
I've made bold claims before. I told a dying region that we were the best community on NationStates. I told a population of 120 that we could triple in size. I told Red Dusk that our military could flourish again. This isn't pride, this is a pattern, and I'm not about to let this pattern die. The Department of State will be top-of-the-line in our activity, publicity, and consistency. This update is not the sum total of what this department is capable of; you will see everything improve. Our region has too many bright minds and active nations to be poor at foreign affairs.
To be honest, it's been a while since I've failed at anything in the RIA, and there's nothing about the Department of State that makes it an insurmountable challenge. I bring a pedigree of success and a track record of getting things done to the office of Secretary of State, and I have no doubt that this will be the region's next success story!

Recruitment Update
Last month, after a successful recruitment campaign which started way back in April, we stopped sending mass telegrams from the Kerg account and started sending them from the Shiz account. We received a wake up call two weeks ago that we could not solely rely on one person for mass telegrams with the huge imgur and Reddit bumps. We were successfully able to recruit hundreds of nations only because of a little luck and a few dollars of stamps purchased during the waves. We aren't sure how we'll move forward from this but we will likely ensure that more than one nation has stamps on them at al times. We will also be starting to train manual recruiters soon.

Department of the Interior
Our growth this past month has been a fantastic surprise to us here in the RIA. It has created a lot of new concerns for the interior, which is a great thing - this is a new challenge for us and we all know challenges help us to grow. The concerns, at least, in my selfish opinion, lie with role-play opportunities and national/regional involvement. We, the RIA, want to connect with YOU - your nation, your region. So, let us share what’s been happening in our region, so that you can join in on the fun.
The Renegade (http://ria2016.wixsite.com/therenegade)
Two new contributors have been added to the newspaper staff as regular writers, which makes the staff at four members now. The Renegade, the regional newspaper, now has two featured sections, and a third is in the works:
1) What You Need to Know - a series written by the Secretary of the Interior about nations within the RIA, offering you a profile of RIA countries and their leaders.
2) Meet the Renegades - a series about nations from a more touristy, light hearted point of view. (Interviews and writings have begun on this project)
3) (No Clever Title Yet) - a political analysis of RP wars, elections and other official events.
As we continue working with our embassies, I hope to add another series which would be dedicated to YOUR regional news updates, so that our members are aware of your events as well. If you are interested in this, let me know - I’d love to add a foreign liaison to our team of contributors.
Role-play
New RP: A beginner’s RP has begun in the forum to help some of our new members from the last few weeks of growth. There are veterans who have volunteered to help with the project. Veteran players are considering some suggestions for stricter rules on the forum and many scenarios are quite active. RP continues to thrive in both RMB and forum. RP is now moderated a bit more by two new arbitrators to help keep an organized RMB by implementing a few new changes. RP content and posting suggestions are being offered as a means to reform our RP methods and improve on our RP experience for the users.
Game Night/Days/Weekends Coming soon…
My goal, for the rest of the year, is to create opportunities for RIA citizens, and international friends to gather and share a game and a laugh together. After I learned of other regions’ activities and community affairs, I was inspired to steal their ideas. :) We want to get to know you, other regions of the world! RIA citizens are interested in community games and international cultural events to promote our connections with one another and our embassy regions. We will be coordinating and planning to get these events on the calendar. Games of interest:
- Town of Salem
- Planetside 2
- Cards Against Humanity
- The Resistance
- Werewolves
- Monopoly & other board games and more!
Once events are scheduled, I’ll announce them. If your region would like to be involved please contact me or join in on the event if it’s already begun - The more the merrier. renegadeislands.proboards.com/thread/2650/games-weekends

The RIA is looking forward to working with other regions in the near future. If you have suggestions, news, questions, anything, let me know. You can find me on Discord, RIA’s forum, RIA’s regional NS page. I want to provide quality events for my region and my friends all over the world.

Shizensky Update
In August, I made the decision to regain control over my nation and offsite forum accounts. I had to quit NS unexpectedly in 2014 and gave full control to HumanSanity. In the time that I was away, Tangaroan Islands and Benevolent Thomas also controlled my accounts. I'm not sure many people can say that they could give away the keys to a region like that and still come back to find things in one piece, or better yet - thriving! I'm thankful to have them as friends. Special thanks to Benevolent Thomas for basically giving Timothia free reign during the reboot that was kicked off in February. Timothia's efforts have led to one of the most prosperous times I've ever witnessed in the 12 year history of the Renegade Islands Alliance.
While I'm at it, a huge thank you to Timothia for writing a constitution that expects an inactive founder. Now that I'm back, my job is easier than it's ever been!
