Character Applications Thread


Here after a small delay on account of procrastination, a bunch of real life business and a stomach pathogen, but we're finally back for a second season folks!!

If anyone has any great ideas for things to add on the character application thread, feel free to also leave suggestions and comments!  No sense in leaving this a stingy thread after it's been filled with applications, in my opinion!  :D

Character Name: Aurelius Áedán Völund Alexsandrov

Age: 42

Biography: Aurelius was born in the Imperial City in Acaria within Wintreath. He is the younger brother of Grand Prince Alexsandr Von Erikson who happened to command the last mission Wintreath sent out. At the age of 7, Aurelius took a liking to exploring electronics and the droids Acaria had in production. Soon, he began making modifications to the Alexsandrov household droids. His parents decided to send him to the Imperial Academy of Engineering and Science, a famous and prestigious boarding school in the Imperial City. There, he was known to become a prodigy. However, Aurelius was a bit of a troublemaker and was always on the verge of being expelled. Despite that, he managed to barely graduate from the Imperial Academy when he was 17. Afterward, he was accepted into the Acarian University of Technology, a Wintreath popular university for the sciences and engineering. After his 2nd year, Aurelius dropped out of AUT and joined the Wintreath Officer Institute of Military Engineering and Science. He soon graduated and became an Engineering Officer in the Wintreath military at the age of 25, where he had a successful military career and served for 12 years. In the middle of his career, Aurelius started a personal project of his: to create a droid companion. He retired at age 37 from the military on top of his family fortune and moved into a cozy home in the Imperial City, his birthplace. There, he was finally able to finish his personal project at age 40 and created a semi-sentient droid. Soon, he heard of the second Wintreath mission to explore space. He remembered his ancestor Grand Prince Alexsandr von Erikson and decided to join the expedition. He signed up as soon as he was ready and was excited to explore new worlds.

Contemporary Character Description: Aurelius is tall at a height 6'4". He has light, golden, blonde hair and has emerald green eyes. For being 42, Aurelius does seem quite young for his age as he looks like he's in his mid to late 20's. He has a slender build. Often times, he does not wear clothes that would represent him being a noble and often has a pair of goggles on. Aurelius is usually an outgoing and energetic guy, but he has quite the temper.

Role: Robotics Artificer

Special: A sarcastic semi-sentient droid companion which is upgradeable. His humour setting is at 75%.
(He does have some practical uses though)

Character Name: Julio Perez

Age: 20

Biography: Julio was born to a well respected military family from Thalasus within Wintreath. His father was a powerful naval admiral, his mother was a well to do lobbyist for a military vehicle manufacturer, and his brother was one kill away from becoming an ace pilot when he was shot down in one of Thalasus' numerous trade skirmishes. He showed an exemplary aptitude for aerospace mechanical engineering and was a halfway decent pilot in simulations. However, as a result of his tendencies towards delinquency he nursed since he was a child and because of his strong socialist sympathies during the short lived Thalasi civil war, Julio was very much the black sheep of the family. The only one who actually liked and cared for Julio was his brother, who died in the skies over Eurasia. After intentionally flunking out of the military school he was forced to attend, he spent some time as an itinerant aircraft mechanic. After seeing an advertisement for the next space expedition, he applied on a whim, thinking it would be something fun to do. He was a little bit surprised when he made it past the preliminary rounds, and decided that he would work hard at it to show up the rest of his family. He made it past the training rounds and finally got accepted onto the crew as one of the engineers and a secondary pilot.

Julio is 5'11", 185 pounds with a fit build. He has mid-length black hair (usually kept under a Wintreath Space Agency brand baseball cap), dark blue eyes, and a dark skin tone. He has a cynical attitude and a dark worldview, but he isn't at all unfriendly and understands the importance of social cohesion for this mission. He's also bisexual, though he prefers women.

Role: Engineer, with a focus on propulsion systems, hull service, and moving parts. Novice pilot who really shouldn't fly unless there's an emergency.

Special: He doesn't carry any unique equipment except for a loaded gun that he smuggled aboard as a keepsake of the planet he left behind. It's a Colt M1911, chrome-plated, with an inlaid pattern of silver and gold jungle leaves, radium lined sights, and carved oak grip with his monogram burned into it. Julio's not a very violent person so he kept it around simply because he appreciated the craftsmanship, but it certainly has its uses.

Age: 26

Bio: female, 6'1", white skin, black hair, green eyes. Will get more in depth later.

Role: Chief Engineer

Special: is really good at making something out of mismatched parts. Also has some training in self defense.

Character Name: Kal Vau

Age: 29

Biography: Born in Yaim Rusur, Kal was raised as any boy was, like a super Spartan. He was trained in every weapon they had in the school, specializing in machete and carbines. In school he also excelled in history and engineering.  He joined security forces because that's quite literally what he was raised to do. He is 5'11, with blond hair and dark brown eyes. He features a heavy Yaim Rusur accent, and is rather flirtatious, but knows when to stop. Gained in his time in highschool, Kal features several scars, which he proudly refers to as "GPA boosters and manly make-up."

Isn't this taking place not long after the first one ended since we're trying to save the last crew? How is Zemas' character a distant descendant of the first Captain then?

I'm uncertain how much of the previous RP I am expected to be familiar with to join now, I haven't read it all... I think to be safe I'd like to join as a non-essential support role, you can reject me now if you want to or I can be written out later if it doesn't work out. If it might work out though, here's my character.

Character Name: Leira Sardior

Age: 26

Bio: Quiet, from spending so much time observing surroundings and the behavior of people and rarely thinking to speak up and participate, Leira values knowledge, especially the complexities of how people make decisions. Finding that this is not enough, Leira would like to join this expedition to document the behaviors of alien species, while using her expertise to help the crew as their counselor when this is not possible.

Appearance: Female, 5'4", light skin, black hair, green eyes.

Role: Counselor / Xenopsychologist

Special: Skilled and blending in to human and non-human crowds due to skill at analyzing and mimicking behavior. Useful for gaining closer analysis and information.

You don't have to be familiar with the previous roleplay to join in. :) It will only help for the first bit but otherwise it's not really needed to know of the previous roleplay.

Yep!! Though I do believe Wintreath is a united world now if I'm not wrong, so a "culture" or "province" would probably be what Yaim Rusur is... :)

Character Name: Dr. Carl Robert McNamara, MD

Age: 34

Biography: Born and raised in a wealthy rural province (as evident by his drawl), Dr. C.R. McNamara -- called Doc by his subordinates, Mac by his friends, and Carl by those he's intimate with -- is the only son of a powerful provincial politician father and a world-renowned surgeon mother. In reality, Mac was actually raised mostly by house maids and relatives as his parents were usually busy with their work-lives, and he had many cousins who lived nearby whom he would play with. His father was a stern retired soldier and lawyer and groomed him to follow his footsteps as a politician, while his mother was very caring towards him (during the little amount of time she was around). Preferring a medical career over a legal or military one, Mac went to the prestigious medical university where his mother went, and graduated near the top of his class. Shortly afterwards, his father had him join the Wintreath military as a medical officer since he knew personally how good military service looks in politics. Mac was initially reluctant but quickly began to enjoy his position. He excelled as a medical officer and became fast friends with enlisted crewmen, who often reminded him of his cousins. He rose in the ranks and eventually was offered the position as Chief Medical Officer aboard the newest space exploration mission, which he gladly took.

Personality: Mac is charming though not as outgoing as many would expect. He enjoys hanging out with enlisted crewmen, whom he sees as being more "real" than often overambitious officers. Luckily, being in the medical field gives him plenty of autonomy. When it comes down to it, though, he will always follow a command, but he may make his hesitations known.

Appearance: 5'10", athletic build, short dirty-blond hair, deep blue eyes, handsome face and square jaw.

Role: Chief Medical Officer

Special: Mac is an accomplished big-game hunter and so is skilled with a rifle and knowledgeable about animal physiology and hunting methods.

Character Name: Designation: PAAR-85 (Officially: Proprietary Automated Assistance Robot, Actually: Proprietary Autonomous Assassin Robot, number 85), Personal designation: Perry

Age: Unknown (exact activation time unknown)

Biography: After the Innsmouth Hotel bombing, the United Gralend Corporation was faced with a crisis. Multi-billion dollar assassin robots on the loose and the majority of the board of directors deceased. However, under the management of Anthony McGulliver, the UAG was able to reform and hide from the general public the mistakes they made. However, they did not end the Assassin Robot Project, instead, working on a new model. The PAAR was the result of those efforts, advertised as a high-class personal assistant robot, it instead an even more sophisticated assassin than its predecessor, the HKR range, capable of free thought to an extent but still being subservient and incapable of 'going rouge' like HKR-47 did. Only around 122 were made, each with a distinct personality and memories, capable of taking contracts on their own but still subservient to the UAG.

Combat wise they are master marksmen and expert hand-to-hand combatants but lack mush in the way of protection, their plating being unable to withstand much punishment from lasers or explosions. Their strength, while superior to most humanoids, is not overpowering to the extent that HKR was.

This particular unit, model 85 (but asks people to refer to him as Perry), has a jovial and affable personality meant to lull targets into a false sense of security. However, he also has been having thoughts and desires uncommon to the PAAR series, a desire for freedom. He absolutely relishes in causing harm and chaos to others and always takes the most chaotic route to killing someone. However, he is also experiencing existential dread, questioning the purpose of his 'life' and to some extent might even be showing suicidal tendencies. When the chance to join the mission looking for the almost messianic (at least to Assassin Robots) HKR-47 presented itself, Perry jumped at the chance. Weather to kill the elusive HKR and prove himself superior once and for all or even to ask how to think for itself, Perry will not stop until he finds HKR-47....

Role: Protocol and Personal Assistance Robot

Appearance: Humanoid bipedal machine, grey metal non-polished plating on most of the outer body, non-restricted joints on every limb, face oval and roughly 'human' shaped but made of a special screen that can show images and videos. Perry's common 'expression' is a widely beaming emoji but can change to anything he wishes.

Special: Fluent in countless languages, expert in foreign cultures and customs, excellent social protocol skills, master assassin and marksman, master in hand to hand combat, excellent cook

Character Name: Miranda Walls

Age: 17

Biography: Born one of the many metropolises covering Wintreath, Miranda lost her parents to a drunk driver when she was seven, leaving her to fend for herself. She took up residence in an abandoned apartment building, resorting to working as a con-artist and pickpocket to get by. She learned a lot from pawn shop owner Abigail Zarelli, who taught her the art of the underground world, learning to sweet talk and pickpocket almost anyone. This harsh reality hardened her view of the universe and by the time she was 14, she barely trusted anybody. At the urging of Zarelli, she decided to leave the city and embark on an adventure, eventually finding herself in a crate at the spaceport with a couple thousand credits to her name.

Appearance: Female, 5'2", fit, light skin, black hair, blue eyes

Role: Stowaway

Special: Miranda can sweet-talk and pickpocket almost anybody.

I'm going to be bringing back my old Star Reaper character from the Ainur days, I never did get to use him after all.

Character Name: Johann von Tomlin, known as "The Reaver of the West" by his admirers and "Slugface" by his detractors

Age: 59

Biography: Johann believed he was destined for engineering when he was younger, when he was just a poor kid in the ass end of the galaxy. When he finally got offplanet though, he found it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. He was eating shitty quickmeal rations and recycled water. The bridge crew wanted to replace him and his buddies with robots, and the less said about the safety regarding the Artificial Gravity system, the better. It was around this time that pirates like the X-29 Harpoons were getting infamy. So, when a fellow crew member wanted to start a mutiny, Johann was quick to help out. They slaughtered the bridge crew, took over the ship, and began a storied streak of marauding around their little corner of space. Eventually the planetary governments hunted them down and blew the ship to hell, but Johann escaped with his cash and none of his crew on a life pod and started over again as soon as he could. He captained more than a few well-renowned vessels in his time, and he's escaped more prisons than the number of years he's lived. He's been retired from space piracy for nearly a decade now, and cut a deal with some less than clean government officials to get his statute of limitations nice and expired. Since then he's been a merc mostly, and now he's gotten hired for some lame ass exploratory vessel. Easy credits, or so he thinks...

Appearance (I know it's not required but I think it's important): A huge man, Johann stands at 6'5 with a lot of muscle hidden under a lot of flab. His arms and torso are covered in tattoos from the various mercenary and pirate gangs he's been a part of. He shaved his head bald when his hair started thinning, and keeps it that way ever since. He has thick, blond eyebrows above a pair of dull, grey eyes. His pug nose has seen far too many fights, and seems to be permanently swollen. Parts of his ears have been bitten off at various points, his lips have been busted enough that the scars still show permanently and the skin sags a little. The entire bottom half of his head is greasy and half-shaven. The man is not much to look at, and he's called slugface for a reason.

Role: Security

Special: He's good at killing people, very good. He can crush just about anything with his bare hands, and shoots what he can't with "Joanna", his plasma rifle that he stole on his very first pirating run. He's can be very intimidating, and knows how to use fear to get subordinates into line. Other than that he's got a good bit of engineering knowledge, especially on older ships and parts.

Name: Michael Alexander Cornell

Age: 32

Biography: Born to middle-class immigrant family, Michael was an only child that received much love from his mother and strict discipline from his father. At a young age, Michael developed a keen interest in the sciences and during his high school years, in geopolitics. Wanting to go out and venture into space, he went to a specialized college for pilots and engineers and majored in mechatronic engineering (IRL it's actually a real field of engineering that was just recently created). Upon graduation, Michael enrolled into the Wintreath Space Corps where he was tasked to maintain satellites and orbital defense platforms. At age 25, he entered the intelligence branch of the corps and trained to be a Special Tactics Officer. At age 30, Michael left the armed forces in the search for something different.

Physiology: 5 feet and 11 inches / 180.34 centimeters. Naturally tanned skin and yellow eyes and black hair.

Personality: A person who generally optimistic. Loves to talk about topics concerning space and geopolitics. Likes to read historical books and sci-fi. Has an interest in studying philosophy as a whole. The sexuality of Michael is that he's straight. He prefers to listen to classical music but hates country. He has been in the military for the better part of 40 years, and has served his nation of New Hatfield well as a field engineer with a penchant for designing mind-bogglingly complex weaponry with little more than bits of metal and a few circuit boards.

He is on this mission not because of any desire to do good, but to find the whereabouts of Hendrik Wolfskemer - and end his life to reclaim something that was stolen from him.

Although not actively malicious, he will brutally stab/shoot/incinerate/liquefy/bash in the skull of anyone and anything that gets in his way.

Role: Field engineer and architect.

Special: Advanced weapons training on par with any hardened veteran who's spent his life in the military, and cybernetic implants that allow him to move with the speed and grace of a much younger man.
